1 Undergraduate Degree Program Social Work - BS Mission Statement To educate students for professional social work service and leadership in local, national and international domains; to collaborate with communities, conduct research, and disseminate knowledge in response to the needs of individuals and families living in diverse and multicultural urban environments; to lead the scholarly search for innovative, effective and just solutions to human concerns. Student Learning Outcomes FIU Social Work - BS graduates should be able to achieve the following: Content/Discipline Knowledge Skills Students will understand and apply values and ethics of the social work profession. Direct Measures Method # 1 Instructor's Evaluation of Student Performance. This assessment utilizes a five-point Likert scale and contains five questions that specifically address this outcome (questions 1, 9, 10, 31, & 33). This evaluation is also reviewed by the School's Field Education faculty and discussions regarding the student's performance are held between the student, field instructor, and field faculty.

2 Minimum Criteria for success: Students will achieve a 3 or better on the five-point Likert Scale. Method #2 Portfolio: All graduating students submit a Portfolio at the end of their final field seminar (SOW 4523) to the Field Education faculty. A panel of three faculty members meet and assess the students' portfolios using an assessment rubric. The three-point rubric contains six areas of assessment (organization & presentation, communication, relevance of contents, quality of contents & evidence of accomplishment, critical thought/analysis & scholarship, and self-awareness & self-reflection). One assignment in the Portfolio specifically addresses this outcome through a discussion of an ethical dilemma at their field practicum agency. The rubric matrix assesses three aspects (quality of content, critical thought, & self-awareness) of the student's performance on the Portfolio assignment. Students will receive a 2 or better on a 3-point rubric Students will demonstrate understanding of the basic skills needed to evaluate human service interventions, including their own practice.

Students will achieve a 3 or better on the five-point Likert Scale. Instructor's Evaluation of Student Performance. This assessment utilizes a five-point Likert scale and contains four questions that specifically address this outcome (questions 23, 27, 28, 48). This evaluation is also reviewed by the School's Field Education faculty and discussions regarding the student's performance are held between the student, field instructor, and field faculty. Students will achieve a 3 or better on the five-point Likert Scale.

The rubric matrix assesses the relevance of the content and the quality of the content of the student's performance on the Portfolio assignment. Students will receive a 2 or better on a 3-point rubric Critical Thinking Skills Students will apply critical thinking skills to generalist social work practice. Direct Measures

This evaluation is also reviewed by the School's Field Education faculty and discussions regarding the student's performance are held between the student, field instructor, and field faculty. Students will achieve a 3 or better on the five-point Likert Scale. Communication Skills Students will demonstrate professional communication skills across systems and settings including skills in the use of technology. Direct Measures Method #1 Instructor's Evaluation of Student Performance. This assessment utilizes a five-point Likert scale and contains five questions that specifically address this outcome (questions 7, 34, 40, 41, 42). This evaluation is also reviewed by the School's Field Education faculty and discussions regarding the student's performance are held between the student, field instructor, and field faculty.

Several assignments in the Portfolio specifically address this outcome through both the written assignments in the Portfolio as well as an oral presentation (with PowerPoint) of their agency and identification and discussion of the interpersonal relationships and communication observed at the agency at multiple levels as well as their process of recording a termination interview and ethical dilemma of a case. The rubric matrix assesses six aspects of the student's performance on the Portfolio assignment (organization, communication, relevance of contents, quality of contents, critical thought/analysis, & selfawareness).
