3 NOTES A Welcome Note from PMI Eastern Iowa President, Tammy Sweat It is my pleasure to welcome you to PMI Eastern Iowa s 4 th Annual Professional Development Day (PDD), Harves ng Your Leadership Skills. Our chapter s first PDD was held in October At this event, we had over 100 project management professionals in a endance. The success of our first PDD encouraged us to con nue hos ng a PDD each year. Year a er year, the a endance has been steady. Considering that we are a smaller chapter of only 300 members, and with the decline of the economy in the past years, it is phenomenal that we can con nue to offer this program to our membership. Needless to say, our sponsors help us out tremendously. They provide funds that keep this tradi on alive. Without them, it would be difficult for the chapter to assume such a financial risk. I thank the University of Wisconsin Pla eville (UWP), Pearson, St. Ambrose, and O Reilly for their con nued support of this large event. Throughout the year, we have had other companies, such as Brainstorm Chicago and Global Tech Services from Des Moines, individual contractors, such as Jamie Northrup, as well as volunteer speakers that have all made it possible for our chapter to con nue to thrive. Thank you! We have tried several different arrangements for speakers on this day. Last year, we had six speakers with two tracks during the day. In 2009, we had four speakers, each two hours long, and the year before that OK, I admit, I can t remember! The point is we strive to offer a new program each year. This year, we simplified the program by bringing in two high quality na onally recognized speakers; however, simple does not mean a lack of quality. I hear great reviews regarding both Rick s and Andy s delivery methods, and I m fired up to hear them! Please enjoy today. Make friends, network, ask ques ons, get involved, and most of all have fun! Make today your day because that is what this event is all about. If you pick up a few neat tricks to bring back to the office; then, all the be er, but relax and enjoy. It s great to see so many friends here today. Stop by and say hello to me and all the other members of the chapter leadership team. 4 SPEAKER PROFILE NOTES Session 1 Rick Morris Stop Playing Games: A Project Manager s Guide to Successfully Naviga ng Organiza onal Poli cs Rick iden fies and discusses the day to day world of a project manager. Project managers have the unique ability to find shortcuts or workarounds in dealing with projects, sponsors, and stakeholders. Rick s session will bring to life true issues and fixes to help project managers avoid the games we are forced to play. Through sharing years of experience, Rick will show you how to get stronger, more process oriented, and more respect for the work you do. Rick will offer real world advice to help you gain proper techniques that you can immediately use to impact your projects, learn how to influence without authority, stop end rounding projects, and get back to the basics that will help create a project manager who will do the right things the right way. Rick is an ITIL Prac oner, consultant, author, mentor, and creator of a founda on to promote project management in chari es and other non profits. Rick holds the PMP, MPM, OPM3, Six Sigma Green Belt, MCITP, MCTS, TQM, ATM S, ITIL, and ISO cer fica ons. He is the president of R2 Consul ng LLC and has worked for world class organiza ons such as GE, Xerox, and CA. At an early age, Rick worked center stage for Walt Disney World in their seasonal shows and for MGM Studios in the New Mickey Mouse Club. Taking the experience of his youth and blending it with the knowledge he a ained throughout his career, Rick has inspired and mentored thousands of project managers across the world. 4 9

Andy is an interna onal speaker, author, University of Wisconsin Pla eville trainer, execu ve coach, and president of the Ins tute for Leadership Excellence & Development Inc. Andy brings a rich background of over 25 years of experience in execu ve management, technology, team leadership, project management, consul ng, and coaching. His focus is all about transforming organiza ons through proven, holis c, real world approaches. He is a cer fied Project Management Professional (PMP ) and a member of the Project Management Ins tute (PMI ). Before founding the Ins tute, Andy was the Vice President of U.S. Systems for ACNielsen. He was responsible for running the Decision Support segment of ACNielsen s business. His teams were responsible for designing, developing, and implemen ng sophis cated market research systems for the company s clients around the world.
