The academic investigation will be completed individually or in pairs, on topics proposed by the Masters Director. The project proposals will be made available in the second term. ET 1. PRINCIPLES II. METHODOLOGY The teaching methodology is based on a learning system rather than a teaching system. With this aim, the study programme is based on three principles: application of knowledge, development of skills and t he reinforcement of abilities. These principles are developed through the following general competencies. 2. GENERAL COMPETENCIES Students should develop the following basic competencies Reinforcement of responsibility and respectfulness.- Students are to reinforce abilities related to active and responsible work, respecting others and being open to teamwork Development of learning skills.- Students are to develop learning abilities which will allow for a continuous and self-directed or autonomous study discipline Reasoning with a financial focus.- Students are to integrate acquired knowledge and to confront complex decision-making based on partial or limited information which reflects on corporate, social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and values Solving new or complex problems.- Students are to be able to apply the knowledge acquired and demonstrate their ability for problem-solving in a new or a little-known environment within a broader context (or multidisciplinary) related with their area of study. 3. SUBJECTS The teaching strategies made available to students for acquiring the above-mentioned competencies are made evident through the planning of tasks and activities hence the division of modules into subjects is made. Each subject is supported by a Methodological Class Guide of tasks and ac tivities, to be ef fective as long as no other proposal previously agreed upon by the Director of the Master s Programme and informed to students is made. This guide consists of five fundamental elements: learning objectives, content, evaluation, timescale, and Professors responsible for the teaching. 5

6 I. EVALUATION 1. GENERAL CRITERIA The Master in Finance and Banking follows an evaluation model that combines a continuous and final evaluation. Students are to follow CIFF-UAH regulations as well as those of the Universidad de Alcalá Independent evaluation of each subject The UAH 16/17 subject will undergo an i ndependent evaluation, where the corresponding grade will be indicated on the personal certification which will be eventually filed Quantitative evaluation. Each subject is given a value from 0 to 10, with half-point intervals. The following grades may be obtained: 0,0 to 4,9 Suspenso (Fail) 5,0 to 6,9 Aprobado (Pass) 7,0 to 8,9. Notable (Very good) 9,0 to 10.. Sobresaliente (Distinction) Distinction can be awarded in the ratio of 1 out of every 20 registered students per intake, always when that student has attained a grade of Objective tests of knowledge.- The evaluation will consider the understanding and application of knowledge, and thus organize and analyze that knowledge in its triple dimension: descriptive, systematic and critical. The tests will last from 30 minutes to 180 minutes, depending on the specific criteria. The objective tests will continuously evaluate the progress of the student. These will be completed during the teaching of the subject and it is advisable to complete a minimum of two tests Participation - A professional Masters Degree must accord great importance to its grading, with respect to both oral and written communication, as well as its c ontent. Participation in the programme is assessed through individual projects and/or group work. - Individual projects - The evaluation will consider abstraction and synthesis skills that help to focus the project on relevant details while avoiding accessory points. The most valued elements in evaluating these papers shall be precision, originality, technical quality and simplicity. - Group work - Evaluated elements include technical knowledge, teamwork skills and the successfully presentation of the work. The group is given an overall joint mark, although the professor can distinguish group members positively or negatively. 6

7 Final Exam. There is Final Exam of major subjects. It is completed at the end of it. Attendance & Punctuality The degree course does not represent a part-time programme allowing irregular attendance in the class sessions. Attendance is obligatory, as is the display of a serious and consistent commitment on the part of the student. For this reason, absence from the Masters sessions will be penalized in the grading. Absence from class sessions can result in an u nsatisfactory attendance grade being given. It will be up to the Professor and the Masters Coordination Unit to determine if this grade will be given. Justified absences will not be c onsidered. Reasons must be dul y justified, for example due to health problems or circumstances beyond the student s control. All absences must be authorized by the Masters Coordination Unit. Missing 20% or more of the Masters classes may result in no degree being awarded whatsoever. Attendance at complementary activities is voluntary. In any case, those students who commit themselves to attending an activity, and who later cannot show up must give prior notice. Punctuality is an elemental professional attitude, which in addition demonstrates ones respect for the time of the Professors and ot her students. As such, the classroom doors will be closed 5 minutes prior to the start of each session, assuming that no one will be permitted to enter until a break or end of the class. It is up t o the programme manager to control the attendance in each subject. Their report will be handed to the Professor of each subject who will consider each students attendance prior to giving them their marks Tests, exams or work not attended/presented. Any tests, exams or work not attended or handed in will be graded with a zero, and will thus weigh accordingly on the final mark. Tests or work not presented on time, or non-attended exams for reasons such as illness, unavoidable travel, accidents etc. will not be acceptable unless otherwise indicated by the Professor and always with prior authorisation by the Programme Director Revision of Final Mark Students who wish to review the Final Mark of a par ticular subject must inform the programme manager within a 48 hour period after the publication of this mark is made on the programme platform. CIFF-UAH will try to arrange for the revision of the Final Mark to be i n person with the Professor responsible. The revision of this mark will consider all of the activities of continuous evaluation and the Final Exam. This revision could result in a higher or lower Final Mark Complaints Complaints regarding the final marks will be justified by the inappropriateness of the method of evaluation proposed to the student in relation to the objectives of the evaluated subject, or by the incorrect application of the established grading criteria. A complaint can be made providing that the previously mentioned revision has been completed. Complaint requests, which must be well-reasoned (with a written submission of the reason for disagreement), must be pr esented within 48 h ours from the moment the grades are made public. The Academic Study Committee will assess and resolve any complaints within a period of 10 calendar days, communicating the final decision to the student and the Professor within this time. The Academic Study Committee will be comprised of the Master Director, Director of the Department of Economic Fundamentals and H istory (or his delegate) and the Master Coordinator. 7

8 1.5. Failed or non-attended subjects. In the case that the student receives a m ark inferior to 5 ou t of ten, o if the subject is not attended by the student, the subject must thus be passed through a retake exam and/or an individual written work entrusted by the subject Professor in the month of June within the planned dates. The maximum grade that the student will be able to attain will be 5 out of 10. More information will be given under the subheading Subject Retakes Subject Retakes. Those students who fail a subject will be able to sit a retake exam that will take place during the month of June. The exam will be a written and will be evaluated by the Academic Study Committee and the subject Professor. The maximum grade possible will be 5 out of 10, independent of the result obtained in the test or exam. No passing the retake test will result in the automatic failure of the subject Failed subjects. After the Retake test and/or exam, there will be time for additional claims for failed or nonattended subjects. The subjects of the UAH Curriculum which the student has obtained a mark below 5 out of 10 will be c onsidered as failed. Consequently, the student will not be able to receive their degree certificate for the Master from the Universidad de Alcalá. However, the student may enrol in courses of the curriculum at the University of Alcalá suspended in the following academic year, maintaining grades in other subjects of the Master while the Master continues republished. The academic program may change from one t o next Edition; therefore, the student must take the revision of course content and therefore its cost. For this purpose, consult the table of prices for tuition for failed courses Final Grade. The final grade of the Masters programme is not part of regulation of the Universidad de Alcalá. The 21 subjects which will appear on the academic certificate of the Universidad de Alcalá will not include a F inal Grade. As such, the Final Grade is assigned by CIFF-UAH Business School and is calculated using the criteria mentioned in the following table: SUBJECTS Nº HOURS % Weighting -ranking- Basics in Macroeconomics 8 1,45 Basics in R 12 2,17 Information Reporting 24 4,35 Corporate Finance 24 4,35 Advanced Corporate Finance (M&A) 28 5,07 Project Finance 14 2,54 Corporate Governance & Business Ethics 12 2,17 Equity and Fixed Income 36 6,52 Derivatives 36 6,52 Portfolio Management Theory 36 6,52 International Capital Markets 18 3,26 8

The official denomination will be Máster Universitario en Banca y Finanzas / Finance and Banking Those students that obtain a mark below 5 in any subject will have failed the programme, and as such will not be able to obtain their UAH Certification. In this case the subheading 1.7. Failed subjects will apply. 9
