3 READ THIS FIRST! Hi there and welcome to the Veeroll Quick Start Guide! The aim of this Quick Start Guide is to help you set up your very first YouTube video ad campaign using Veeroll within the next 30 minutes! The process should really only take you about 30 minutes the first time round. And once you get better at it, you should be able to create new campaigns much faster! This guide will ONLY focus on In-Stream video ads, as this is exactly what the Veeroll platform is optimized for. From our testing, we ve found that In-Stream video ads provide easiest, fastest and best results for your advertising spend - especially when you re just getting started. There are 5 easy steps: Step 1: Find the perfect target audience for your ads Step 2: Refine your target lists. Step 3: Create your video ad. Step 4: Build your campaign. Step 5: Optimize your campaign. By the end of this little guide, you ll know EXACTLY how to setup and run very effective YouTube Video In-Stream ads. 4 How To Create Your Very First YouTube Video Ad In Less Than 30 Minutes! Whether you re totally new to YouTube Video Ads or a seasoned pro with normal Adwords, this guide will help you get your YouTube Video Ad setup as quickly as possible, and also with all the best optimized settings. Please follow the steps carefully to ensure a successful campaign. Step 1: Find The Perfect Target Audience For Your Ads The very first step is to make sure you find the right videos and channels to show your video ad in front of. These are called video or channel placements. And all it consists of, is a list of videos on YouTube that you want to show your video ad in front of. TIP: The better job you do at selecting the right videos to show your ad in front of, the better your overall results will be as well. As an example, imagine you are a business selling cat food. If you show your ad about cat food in front of dog lover videos, you may only get people with dogs seeing your ad. And as a result, none of your viewers would be very qualified, and they will not go ahead and click on your ad to visit your site. Rather, finding videos about cats will much more likely get cat owners to see your ads when they watch the cat videos. And as a result of course, these cat owners would be much more qualified for your cat food products and click on your ad to visit your site. So, keep that in mind throughout your whole campaign - the better job you do at finding the right videos to show your ad in front of, the better your results will be (in general!). Ok, so here s how you can find THOUSANDS of extremely targeted video links on YouTube IN SECONDS using the Veeroll Targeting Tool Select the Target menu on the left Next, type in a broad and short phrase representing your industry. For example, if you have a dog training business, you can type in the phrase dog training. 4 of 23

5 TIP: Don t use keyword phrases that are too specific. For example, using the keyword phrase dog training for labradors won t show any results in the search. But the shorter, more general phrase dog training shows many results to choose from! The Keyword Search tool is extremely useful for finding keyword phrases that people are ALREADY searching for on YouTube AND that YouTube has matching videos for. But make sure you start with shorter, more general keyword phrases - the tool will then provide you with more specific keywords to choose from. Next, click the green Get All button - this will find the number of views for the top 20 videos on YouTube for each of the keyword phrases. 5 of 23

6 Then, click the top of the column on the right that says Top 20 Views. This will sort the list of keywords from most popular to least popular. Then, decide which which keyword phrases best represents what your viewers are searching for, and save a list of 240 links 1 for each of those keyword phrase. Note that you don t have to do it for ALL of the keyword phrases. Only the ones that you think your target audience is using in their search on YouTube. Repeat this for each of the keyword phrases you d like to target. TIP: Adwords for video accepts up to 10 target groups per campaign, and each target group can contain up to 240 links each. So, you are able to build a list of up to 2,400 links pretty fast! For a start, we recommend you create 10 targeting lists with 240 video placements links in each targeting list. This will increase your chances of getting more views. That s all you have to do for this step. How easy was that! You can see how very fast you are able to build extremely targeted lists of videos using this tool. Doing this manually would take FOREVER! Seriously! Ok, let s move onto the next step in the process 1 Please note that the number of links you can save to a target list may change over time, depending on Google s mood. 6 of 23

7 Step 2: Refine Your Target Lists To help you get even better results, we developed the Refine tool where you can clean any of the lists you ve created of unwanted videos that are not relevant to your campaign. In a lot of cases, you won t even need to do much here, but it certainly pays to check the following things Check For Unrelated Videos With High View Counts Depending on the keywords you used for searching for your video placements, you may end up with some strange results in your placement lists. For example, say your business sells food processors or blenders. If you build a list for the keyword blenders using the Targeting Tool, you ll end with a bunch of unrelated video links about the popular Blender software for making video animations. And of course, none of these videos would be suitable for a business selling food processors or blenders! In some other cases, they keyword you use for your search may also produce results including parody videos with the same or similar keywords in it. These videos are often very popular with many views, and if they are kept in your target list, they could suck up a lot of your views before you could even spot it! That s why we created the Refine tool. It helps you easily find and delete these unrelated videos so that the list you upload to Adwords later is much more targeted, which in turn will give you a much better end result. Here s how to use it Under the Refine menu item on the left, select the list that you would like to clean This will open up the list and show you all the videos currently in the list. The first, and most effective thing to do, is to sort the video list by number views by clicking on the Views column title You will then see an ordered list of all the videos in the list, from most viewed to least viewed on the list. 7 of 23

8 This is a quick way to spot any really popular videos that are not related, and that could be hogging all your paid videos if they are accidentally included in your campaign. In some cases certain videos will show up that have a very high view count but aren t actually relevant for your campaign. You may want to check out these videos, and determine whether they are appropriate to keep or not. If not, just delete the videos by selecting them, and then hitting the red cross on the right. Or alternatively, you can select all the videos first, then scroll down to the bottom of the list, and use the bulk delete function to save you some time. By JUST doing this little step, you will already make your list A LOT more targeted and ensure MUCH better results for your campaign. Remove Videos That Do NOT Contain A Specific Keyword This is a neat little tool for removing videos that do NOT contain the keyword phrase that was used for creating the list. Simply type in the keyword phrase in the top left box, and hit the Remove button. 8 of 23

9 Before the videos will get removed, you will be shown how many of the videos will get removed from the list just in case you want to reconsider. I use this part of the tool sparingly, as YouTube can often include very related videos EVEN if the target keyword is not contained in the title of the video. Remove Videos That DO Contain A Specific Keyword Sometimes it s necessary to remove videos that contain specific keywords - perhaps a keyword of a competitor, or a swear word, or whatever seems appropriate. To do this, use Contains Keyword from the dropdown menu, enter that specific word and click Remove. You will then be presented with this screen: 9 of 23

10 For this example, we want to remove any videos that contains the word potty in the titles. There are four in this case. Once again, you ll get shown how many videos will get removed before confirming the action You ll once again see how many videos do not make the cut before finally removing them Remove Videos With Low View Counts In the same way as before, you can remove videos that have a view count below a certain number. NOTE: Personally, I don t bother removing videos with low counts, as those videos may still be very fresh and new, and may just take off with a lot of views at any moment. But you may have other reasons for removing videos with a low view count. That s it for cleaning your video placement lists. This little activity does not take long at all, but by doing it, it can make a MASSIVE difference to the effectiveness of your campaign later on. Step 3: Create Your Video Ad Next up, you re ready to create the video for your video advertising campaign. This is the video ad that will be shown in front of the videos you selected in Step 1 earlier. There is no need for any video production skills on your side. If you can type and upload some images, you are more than qualified for this step! We ve optimized the Veeroll video templates so you ll get very high engagement and very high click through rates on your video ads. TIP: The better and more targeted your message, the better your campaign will perform. Sometimes, simply changing a few words can make a MASSIVE difference in the click through rates of your video ads. 10 of 23

11 Here s how to create your video ad using the Create tool inside Veeroll Get started by clicking on the Create menu item on the left. At the moment you can choose between an Annotations Template or an EasyClick Template. Annotations Templates The Annotations templates have their Call To Action in the middle of the video. This is an example: 11 of 23

12 Since the recent changes in Instream Ads (June 2015) these areas are not automatically clickable anymore. To make these areas clickable, we have to add our own annotations to the videos. After your video ad is completed, you will be able to upload it to your own Youtube channel. Then, you will be able to add clickable annotations on your own channel. How to add clickable annotations to your Video Ad NOTE: From our tests we ve concluded that clickable annotations seem to only work on Desktop. If you want to run your campaign on mobile devices, we recommend that you use one of our new EasyClick Templates. EasyClick Templates In the EasyClick Templates the Call to Action is not in the middle area of the video. It points at the left corner of the video, to the Advertisers Link. 12 of 23

13 When you use this template you DON T have to add your own annotations, and this link is also clickable on mobile devices. Submit Your First Video Ad When you ve chosen the type of template you want to use, your next step is to select a video template that you think will appeal most to your target viewer. For this example, we ll select the EasyClick Whiteboard template Next, select a music track to go with your video. There are around 20 music tracks to choose from, depending on the template you select. Let s select the Parasail music track. When you select it, the example video will start playing with your choice of music 13 of 23

14 Once you re happy with your music selection, hit the green Submit Your Selection button The next bit requires a little more thinking. But don t worry, we ve created another guide for you that reveals a very easy formula for creating an extremely effective script for your video ad. Please check the learning area inside your Veeroll account to get access to the Script Writing Guide. Let s assume for now you already have the text all written out for your video ad - go ahead and enter the text into the fields provided. Please note that the first field is simply the title of your video, and will not be part of the actual video. Depending on what level of account you have with Veeroll, you may have the option to upload your company logo as well. Enter any special instructions And then hit the green Submit Customisation button Please note that it takes about minutes to process your video. Once your video has been processed, you will receive an from Veeroll, and a link to your video will also appear inside your Veeroll dashboard, where you can add it to your own Youtube Channel. That s it you re done with creating your video! Easy huh? You re now ready for the final step Step 4: Build Your Campaign All right you re almost there! Just one more step to go - building your campaign using the Campaign Builder. We ve designed this tool with three things in mind: 1. Speed of creating new campaigns 2. Removing all complicated entry fields 3. Optimised settings for 99% of cases 14 of 23

15 Using the Campaign Builder tool will save you a tremendous amount of time, and will help you get the best possible settings to optimise the setup of your campaigns. IMPORTANT: If you ve never created a video ad inside your Adwords account, you may need to get Adwords For Video activated first. If this is the case for you, please see instructions at the end of this quick start guide in the Appendix. To get started, go to the the Campaign Builder menu item on the left Then, simply fill out all the details Enter the name of your campaign in the Campaign Name field (this will be the same name that will appear inside Adwords when you submit your campaign later). Select your video ad that you created in step 2. Enter your display and destination URL. See the footnote below for more details. 2 Select your target lists that you created in step 1. Enter your daily budget and also Max CPV (Cost Per View). Optionally, make other selections like language, country, age and gender from the Advanced Settings link. TIP: In general, it s a good idea to only target the countries where you want your ad to be shown. While this may reduce your overall views, it will also ensure you get much more targeted views and traffic. 2 Display URL is just the address of the home page of your site. Destination URL is where you would like to send traffic to. The Destination URL needs to be on the same domain as your main website that you list in the Display URL. 15 of 23

16 To learn more about the advanced settings you can watch this quick tutorial video about the Campaign Builder. Your campaign file will automatically be downloaded. Then, all that is left for you is to click on the blue Upload It To Adwords button IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you are in the All video campaigns area inside Adwords. Uploading the file you exported and saved earlier WILL NOT work when uploaded via the normal Adwords interface. You HAVE to upload the file in the Adwords For Video interface under All video campaigns as shown in the image below 16 of 23

17 Then, once you re logged into Adwords, look for the Bulk Upload button and click on that Skip the first two steps, and go straight to step 3 to upload the campaign file you saved earlier Once you file has been validated by Google, you should the following window 17 of 23

18 Go ahead and click on the blue Start Import button Your campaign will then automatically get loaded into Adwords, ready for their approval process. Then it s just a matter of Adwords approving your campaign. NOTE: In general, AdWords will review your campaign within one business day. After it s been approved it can take about 24h. for the first data to come in. So, if you don t see any data right away, no worries! And that s it! All this may seem like a lot of steps at first, but once you ve gone through it a couple of times, it really becomes so easy and so fast - WAY faster than you could ever do it without Veeroll in any case! Once you have your campaign running, there s really just one more step to help you get best results over the long term Step 5: Optimize Your Campaign After a day or two that your campaign has been running live for, you can start using the Campaign Audit Tool. This tool will help you easily and quickly determine how your campaign is doing, and provide you with extra insights on how to make improvements. To get started, you first need to export a file from Adwords that you can upload to the Campaign Audit Tool inside Veeroll. Here s how 1. Log into your Adwords account. 2. Go to the Online Video Tab. 18 of 23

19 If you don't have this tab yet in your Adwords account, please refer to Appendix I. 3. Select the Campaign you would like to audit (from the Campaign tab) 4. Select the time range for which you would like to audit the campaign. 5. Click on Bulk Upload 19 of 23

20 6. Select All Data and Statistics then Download 7. Finally make sure you re logged into Veeroll, then go to the Campaign Audit tool, and upload the file you ve just saved. 20 of 23

21 Veeroll will then analyse your campaign, and make suggestions for improvements. And that s it for the quick start guide! 22 APPENDIX I - How To Activate Adwords For Video If you ve never run a video ad inside Adwords before, there s a good chance you may not actually have access to Adwords For Video just yet. No need to stress though these few simple steps will get you all setup in a jiffy! How To Know If You Need To Activate Your Account For Video Of course there s a chance that you may already have your Adwords account activated for video ads - in which case you re all set, and there s no need to follow the steps here. To see whether your Adwords account has been activated for video ads, check to make sure you can NOT see the following link in your normal Adwords interface If you do NOT see the All video campaigns menu item as in the image above, the following steps are for you. If you DO see the All video campaigns menu item as in the image above, you re all set and you don t need to follow the following steps. All right so if you you do NOT see the above menu item, follow these easy steps 3 Simple Steps To Activate Your Adwords Account For Video Ok this is pretty easy. Here s what you do to activate your Adwords account for video Step 1: Log Into Your Adwords Account Simply log into your Adwords account as normal. Step 2: Create A Normal Campaign, But Select Online Video 22 of 23

23 Go ahead and click on the red button that says Campaign for creating a new campaign. Then look for the item called Online Video in the drop down menu as shown below Step 3: Scroll Down And Cancel The Campaign Ok I know this sounds a bit silly, but bear with me for a second Once you ve clicked on the Online Video menu item in the previous step, on the next page, scroll down, and simply cancel the campaign by clicking on the Cancel new campaign button Going through this simple process will automatically activate video ads for your Adword account and you ll be all set!
