6 Advanced IT systems Our pallet network is underpinned by the most advanced logistics management technology available. Every member of the network is linked by a highspeed connection to the Ace Express Pallets Data Processing Centre located at the central hub. As a consignment passes through key points in the transit/delivery process, all data relating to that consignment is transmitted instantaneously to the Data Processing Centre. Our integrated system allows instant communication between individual agents and the our central hub, with automatic or mobile phone alerts to network agents as special delivery requirements or other important developments arise. Our IT systems are 100% resilient: all information relating to deliveries and collections is backed up simultaneously and transmitted to an offsite data processing centre. Sophisticated track + trace While the technology that operates our track and trace system is highly sophisticated, the process of accessing detailed information on individual consignments is extremely straightforward. One of the major advantages of our system is that it enables customers to track their shipments from point to point, simply by logging on to the website. This tracking process is made possible because we affix a bar-coded label to every pallet; the label is then scanned at key points during the transit/delivery process, and the bar-coded information is transmitted instantaneously to our Data Processing Centre.

7 The pallet network Ace Express Pallets operates a scheduled service to and from its 250,000 sq ft central hub and transit warehouse in Dublin every night. Every evening a fleet of super cube vehicles departs from local agent depots, which are strategically located throughout the 32 counties. (Each vehicle carries a minimum of 52 palletised loads: conventional 40 ft containers hold a maximum of 26 pallets.) Because these vehicles arrive at the central hub in Dublin by 1 a.m. latest, and return to their local depot by 6 a.m. latest, no driver is obliged to work for more than eight hours. By managing their delivery schedules in this innovative way, we can guarantee one-driver rosters and ensure that all drivers strictly observe EC regulations on working hours and rest periods. In addition, because the return freight consignments arrive in the local depots before 6 a.m., our agents have ample time to effect early-morning deliveries to their customers. Depending on pricing agreements, deliveries are guaranteed for either pre-10 a.m. or pre-12 a.m. the same day. 24 hour nationwide service Each member departs from their local depot with customer collections and full details of what is available at the central hub for their area. On arrival at the central hub, each pallet is scanned prior to unloading. This data is automatically updated on the tracking system and then the pallets are moved to loading bays. The first of the local agents are ready to depart from the central hub. The pallets are again scanned onto the truck. The information system is again updated to confirm departure from local depot. The member arrives back at their local depot and all pallets are confirmed on arrival. Distribution of deliveries begins out of each depot to the local area for final delivery of goods. Local collections are then effected en-route back to the local depot. All delivery documents are scanned onto the system and made available over the web to all the relevant shippers.
