1 THE HERBARIUM OF ENDRE JENEY VI. PASSIFLORACEAE APIACEAE Studia bot. hung. 43, pp , 2012 Z. Barina 1 and D. Pifkó 2 Department of Botany, Hungarian Natural History Museum H 1476 Budapest, Pf. 222, Hungary; 1 barina@bot.nhmus.hu, 2 pifko@bot.nhmus.hu This part of the series of articles on the herbarium of Endre Jeney is devoted to the families Passifloraceae, Begoniaceae, Lythraceae, Onagraceae, Haloragaceae, Araliaceae, Plantagi naceae and Apiaceae. The revision encompasses 903 specimens representing 123 taxa (117 species) from Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Key words: Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, vascular plants INTRODUCTION Up to around 15% of the 18,000 specimens of the Jeney collection (Barina 2007) deposited in BP have been revised and published: 320 speci mens of pteridophytes (Barina 2007), 72 specimens of gymnosperms (Rácz 2009), 930 specimens of legumes (Pifkó 2008), ca 550 specimens of Rosa ceae (Barina et al. 2010) and ca 900 specimens of a section of the collection from Geraniaceae to Violaceae (Barina et al. 2011). Based on the revised specimens the most frequently visited and collected regions of Endre Jeney have been Central Hungary (Gerecse Mts, Vértes Mts., Bárso nyos Hills) and Northeastern Hungary (surroundings of Debrecen), and scattered collections were made in all regions of Hungary together with some parts of Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania (Transylvania) and Slovakia. Beyond the large number of floristical data, the revisions re vealed some previously unknown and floristically remarkable records, exem pli fied by the first record of Azolla filiculoides Lam. from Hungary (Barina 2007), also the first record of Agrimonia procera Wallr. from Bársonyos Hills and the only record of the hybrid Crataegus deltoxy acantha (Pénzes) Baranec from Bársonyos Hills as well as from the Bükk Mts. In the present account the revision follows the order of Dalla Torre and Harms ( ), used in BP collections, with the genera between numbers 5372 and 6142, actually, according to the APG III system as to the families Passifloraceae, Begoniaceae, Lythraceae, Onagraceae, Haloraga ceae, Araliaceae, Plantaginaceae and Apiaceae. 2 86 BARINA, Z. and PIFKÓ, D. MATERIAL AND METHODS Revisions of families Passifloraceae, Begoniaceae, Lythraceae, Onag raceae Haloragaceae, Plantaginaceae and Araliaceae were made by Dániel Pifkó while those of Apiaceae by Zoltán Barina. The specimens are grouped by families and listed alphabetically within. The sequence of specimen data follows that of previous works (Barina 2007, Pifkó 2008, Rácz 2009, Barina et al. 2010, 2011). The descriptions of collecting sites are presented here as concisely as possible, usually given the country, settlement and place. Country names are given in English, settlement names in the official usage of the appropriate country, followed by the Hungarian name in parentheses. Names of localities in Hungary are identified by the catalogue of Földi (1981) and only the proper current spelling is included in the present work. All names missing from Földi (1981) but used by Jeney are in quotation marks. The right spelling is used of any other toponyms outside the current borders of Hungary. Collector name is shown only when there was a co-collector with Endre Jeney. Nomenclature follows Tutin et al. (1968), the order of genera follows Dalla Torre and Harms ( ), while the classifying them into families follows the APG III system. Species are discussed in alphabetic order within families ENUMERATION Passifloraceae Passiflora caerulea L. ITALY: Veneto, Torcello Island, 5 m, (BP ). DISCUSSION Altogether, data of 674 collections (903 together with duplicates) are given here, of which two belongs to Ceratophyllaceae, one to Passifloraceae, one to Begoniaceae, 35 to Lythraceae, 94 to Onagraceae, 11 to Haloragaceae, one to Plantaginaceae, 9 to Araliaceae and 520 to Apiaceae. After full revision, the material belongs to 117 species (and 6 subspecies). By the revision of these families more than 20% of the whole collection of Endre Jeney is now accessible in publications. The present work revealed that some recently recognised aquatic aliens in Hungary can be found in the collection of Endre Jeney (Ludwigia repens, Myriophyllum heterophyllum, Rotala rotundifolia) and these records are important in tracing the spread of plants occurring in thermal habitats. The collection includes specimens of more scattered and little known spe cies in Hungary, such as Epilobium lanceolatum, E. palustre, E. roseum, Oenanthe fistulosa, Oe. silaifolia, Peucedanum palustre, Selinum dubium, Silaum silaus, Tordylium maximum, Trinia ramosissima and Turgenia lati folia, whose records are an important contribution to the knowledge of their biogeography. The record of Hydrocotyle vulgaris from the northern shore of Lake Balaton extends the species known area in Hungary (cf. Király 2009: 307). * * * Acknowledgements We would like to thank Ildikó Kissné Török for her help in data processing.
