1 SIR JOSEPH BANKS GROUP MARINE PARK LOCAL ADVISORY GROUP DRAFT MINUTES The secnd meeting f the Sir Jseph Banks Grup Marine Park Lcal Advisry Grup (MPLAG) was held at 4.30 pm n 27 May 2010 at the Tumby Bay Cuncil Office. Duffield Island is mre highly used than shwn, and the area suth f Duffield island shuld shw Medium usage, but depending n the weather culd be highly used.

4 Blyth Island has Australian Sea-lins, sea urchins. Is, r culd be, used fr snrkelling and ecturism. The beach just nrth f the current bundary is lw use, with a mix f rcky/sandy mix beach and headlands. Shuld cnnect t Lipsn Island The area just ffshre frm Cape Lalande t the nrthern brder f the park is mre heavily used by bats than shwn. It gets medium t high use. Knwn as The Sandhills The lighter clured area f Tumby Bay (between the twn f Tumby Bay and Salt Creek Beach) culd be an alternative t Secnd Creek (Salt Creek). The nrthern side f the spit belw the twn f Tumby Bay is Medium t High use. The bay west f Tumby Island is t tidal t be fished. There is heavy cral in the mst nrthern f the sardine blcks. There is a Snapper fishery smewhere ut in the far eastern arm f the park, where the depth changes. The majrity f SAMPIT data appears t be frm Tumby Bay based residents mre use f the reef frm fishers based in Prt Lincln There was a general cnsensus that frm a recreatinal fishing perspective, the SAMPIT data was a reasnably accurate reflectin f the different intensity f effrt in different areas in the Sir Jseph Banks Grup Identifying lcal management issues DEH presented the backgrund t develping the marine park management plans and the steps in the prcess. This included reviewing the bjectives f the Act, the MPLAGs rle in the zning scenari design, and identifying issues and pprtunities fr future management plans. Wrksheets A-F (distributed) were explained in detail. The MPLAG members were asked t pass these t the varius interest grups fr their feedback. The deadline fr feedback is 25 th June, 2010.

5 5.4. Preparatin fr zning DEH is develping a prduct that will assist the MPLAGs t self assess their applicatin f the 14 design principles, generally n the fly. A checklist is currently being develped, which wuld be distributed t the MPLAG members later. Sme sample questins n the checklist were als shwn. DEH als presented the plicy cmmitments frm the Gvernment that relate t the design f the parks. MPLAG members are nt respnsible fr implementing the cmmitments; hwever, they are anther level f infrmatin that needs t be cnsidered in the prcess. 6. Recrd f meeting 27 th May 2010 Sir Jseph Banks Grup MPLAG. MPLAG members reviewed SAMPIT data prvided by DEH, recgnising that mst f the data presented was frm the recreatinal fishing sectr. The charts were reviewed and extra infrmatin was added. The grup recgnised that the cmmercial data wuld be received at a later date. Outline f the prpsed management plan cntent. The main purpse f the marine park is representative habitat prtectin fr future reference. Outline f the design prcess ging frward was cvered. A table fr issues raised (summary) during the meeting t be presented in the meeting minutes. Guarantee prvided t MPLAG members in relatin t respnse t questins raised via crrespndence. The key task prir t the next meeting was t identify lcal management issues, eg threats r pprtunities fr management. 7. Future meeting The date f the next meeting wuld be advised by DEH.
