The supervision of a research project for the Chambers of Commerce and RuG Biobrug concerning the value added and regulation of biobased activities in North Netherlands ( The characteristics and size of the bio-based economy in North Netherlands, 2013 with Gert-Jan Euverink and Willemien Veele). 2. The supervision of a strategy design project for a medium-sized company in the financial services industry (2013). The project included an assessment of the external environment, internal organization and strategic opportunities. 3. The supervision of two large-scale research projects for the Chambers of Commerce, VNO-NCW and MKB concerning regulation and administrative burden in the Netherlands. The first study quantifies the size and consequences of regulation for private firm performance ( Rule burden monitor in Northern Netherlands, 2011). The second study analyzes the quality of municipality services ( The quality of municipality services, 2011 with Arjen van Witteloostuijn). 4. The supervision of a research project for the Chambers of Commerce concerning the future of clusters and cluster policies in a biobased economy ( The non-sense of a biobased economy in the Northern Netherlands, 2011 with Steven Brakman). 5. An assessment of the strategy, structure and organization for the works councils of (a) a European manufacturer of plastic pipes ( Dyka and the European pipe industry: The configuration of sites and strategies, 2002); (b) a Dutch producer of water pumps ( Market and marketing in the water pump market for Johnson pumps, 2004); (c) an international producer of wind energy blades ( The production plant of GE wind energy in Almelo: What is the best way forward?, 2004); and (d) an international producer of meat and packaged meat products ( An evaluation of the strategy change of Stegeman: From leader to follower?, 2007). The supervision of the VNO-NCW Stichting Management Studies project concerning the productivity of service delivery organizations ( , with Bart van Ark)

4 7. The consultancy projects for PricewaterhouseCoopers (IBM) focused on the transformation of organizations and business processes, and the implementation of Enterprise Resource Systems. The consultancy activities converged on four areas: project management, the design of long-term strategies, the restructuring of governance structures, and the design and implementation of functional- and technical solutions for various business processes. The assignments included strategy projects at Dutch ministries; a producer of healthcare software; corporate- and client divisions of various international banks; a corporate division of a consumer electronics company; a corporate division of a fast moving consumer goods company; and various large-scale educational institutes. 8. The consultancy projects for KPMG Consulting (Atos) focused on the implementation of Enterprise Resource Systems (PeopleSoft). The consultancy activities for KPMG converged on three areas: project management, the analysis and design of business processes, and system configurations. The assignments included strategy projects for various large-scale educational institutes. C o u r s e D e v e l o p m e n t a n d C o o r d i n a t i o n 1. IB&M and IFM master course International Business Strategy (approximately 150 international students per course (since 2014) focusing on theories and empirical studies of strategy and leadership, strategy and structure, strategy and alliances, strategy and context, and strategy and ethics. The course methods include lectures, tutorials, research papers and essay exams. During the course, strategy best practice examples are presented by representatives from ING, KPMG, Unilever, McKinsey, PricewaterhouseCoopers, IBM and Philips. 2. IE&B, IB&M and IFM master course International Business Strategy (approximately 200 international students per course; ) focusing on theories and empirical studies of leading IBS themes such as strategy and internationalization, coordination, control; and innovation; and the management of subsidiaries; and corporate ethics; and strategic alliances; and government policies. The course methods include lectures, tutorials, and essay exams. 3. IE&B bachelor thesis projects ( ). Approximately 135 first supervision projects that focus on firm performance (in relation to e.g. ownership, internationalization, innovation, company boards, entry modes, diversification, industry structure, and leadership characteristics) and corruption (in relation to institutions, firm- and country characteristics). The projects include double-degree projects with Fudan University (China). Coordinator of approximately 350 other research projects in economics, business and management including mergers and acquisitions, finance and growth, development economics, geography, institutions and culture, innovation, international competition, corporate governance, and emerging economies. 4. IE&B and IB&M master course Advanced International Business (approximately 125 international students per course; ) focusing on theories and empirical studies of leading IB research themes such as the management of strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, headquarter-subsidiary relationships, corporate governance, executive compensation and international labor markets. The course methods include lectures, tutorials, student presentations, essay exams and written research proposals. 5. M&O bachelor course Strategic Management II (approximately 80 national students per course; ) focusing on theories and case studies for strategic positions, strategic choices and the day-to-day management of a company s strategy. The course methods include lectures, tutorials, student presentations, essay- and multiple-choice exams and written consultancy reports. 6. IE&B bachelor course Strategic Management II (approximately 125 international students per course; ) focusing on theories and case studies for strategic positions, strategic choices and the day-to-day management of a company s strategy. The course

5 methods include lectures, tutorials, student presentations, essay- and multiple-choice exams and written consultancy reports. 7. IE&B bachelor course Quantitative Research Methods (approximately 30 international students per course; ) focusing on multivariate data analysis. The course methods include lectures, tutorials, student presentations, essay- and multiple-choice exams and written research proposals. 8. IE&B bachelor course Business Research and Organization Theory (approximately 80 students per course; ) focusing on case study methods, surveys, experiments and secondary data analyses in combination with leading organization theories such as transaction cost economics, the resource-based view and organizational learning.
