3 Introduction Together, putting patients first is Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust s strategy for It outlines our ambitions for the coming years, recognising the challenging environment the NHS as a whole faces. During this period we will ensure that patients are at the centre of all that we do and that our services support the needs of our population. Most people will recognise us through our hospital sites at Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Luke s Hospital, Westbourne Green, Westwood Park, Shipley Hospital and Eccleshill Hospital. We also provide other services in the community (doctors, nurses, midwives and physiotherapists) and at various locations, ranging from GP practices to other neighbouring hospitals in Airedale, Halifax and Huddersfield. We have a clear mission to deliver safe healthcare of the highest quality at all times for all our patients. We are committed to looking and learning from the experiences of others to ensure that our healthcare is consistently of the highest quality and responsive to the needs of our patients, families and carers. We have a large and active Foundation Trust membership base and an excellent reputation for education and research. We recognise the diversity and specific health needs of our local and regional population, and this strategy is designed to ensure we work both internally and with partners to put the needs of our patients first.

4 We have set out below, our core values as an organisation those statements that will remain absolutely fundamental to what we do regardless of the political, social or economic context. We are a well-managed organisation that meets our obligation to patients We will provide excellent care at all times We will achieve financial and environmental goals We will continuously learn and improve We will be transparent with our information We will maintain excellent levels of performance We will deliver improvements in Information Technology.

It is our vision that we will work hand-in-hand with GPs and other partners to ensure we all put patients first. The key focus of the strategy for our community is to: Work with GPs and external partners to put patients at the centre of their care Develop effective working relationships across traditional care boundaries Ensure all staff see the patient journey extending beyond our organisation and working to improve the whole experience as a result Develop services in the community where possible Be an excellent partner for local business, voluntary and public sector organisations. We work hand in hand with GPs and other partners to put patients first We will improve our relationships with our partners We will improve integrated care and information We will help staff to learn about the whole patient pathway We will aim to provide services in the most appropriate location for patients We will improve our support of the local community.

10 What next? Together, putting patients first sets out our strategy and vision for the next five years and has outlined some specific commitments that we seek to achieve in order to deliver the strategy. The Foundation Trust has instigated a clear programme of work identifying the commitments identified here and many more that have been signed up to by the Board of Directors. These form the framework within which our service strategies will be developed. These commitments all have a starting point and all have an end in mind. The Board of Directors will measure our progress against these commitments on a regular basis, reviewing and instigating work to deliver these requirements. This progress will be made available for patients, the public and partners to view to gauge our success as part of our commitment to transparency and openness. We will keep this strategy under review to ensure it remains fit for purpose and relevant but will always continue to make sure that two fundamental principles remain; we will seek to provide safe healthcare, of the highest quality at all times and we will work together, with partners, to put the needs of our patients first.
