She has performed at the Lincoln Centre, New York, The American Museum of Natural History and Battery Park and toured to Canada and Spain. Immigrating to Australia on a Distinguished Talent visa in 2002 she has a Post-Graduate Diploma of Choreography from VCA and complete finished a Master of Choreography at VCA in Melbourne University Soo Yeun has founded Company MIJI 2007, MIJI s work seeks to be conducting between art science and technology in Australia s diverse cultural contemporary dance ( Soo Yeun has performed in a range of projects including: - Resonance I &II (VCA Melbourne 2004), Traces (Melbourne Fringe Festival 2005), Ray of Glass Needles (Melbourne Next Wave Festival 2006), with P:Media Arts from Quebec Canada, The Dance Card (Dancehouse, Melbourne 2006), Studies in Being Human (Bagryana Popov - Dancehouse 2006), Cherry Orchard (Bagryana Popov - Fortyfive Downstairs 2007) and Ball (Terrain Festival at Dancehouse, 2008). She developed and choreographed Reliquary with Indigenous choreographer Gina Rings. The project, about the connection between Australia Indigenous and Korean Shamanism (Ausdance SA 2007, Dancehouse, 2007, Fortyfive downstairs 2007, Northcote Town Hall 2008) was recently presented at the 2009 International Indigenous Dreaming Festival and at Dance house in Melbourne Soo Yeun's work has received grant support from Arts Victoria and the Australia Council. She has been part of assessment panels for Arts Victoria and her latest solo performance Gyu Bang ga sa was performed in Melbourne and choreographed Stanza was presented in Melbourne Sep in Soo Yeun had creative research collaboration with interdisciplinary scholar Dr. Paul Carter and Filmmaker Dirk de Bruyn and then screening at The Atrium screen at Federation Square in Melbourne Sep in KATHLEEN GONZALEZ Born in Bogota Colombia on October 10, 1984, Kathleen Gonzalez was introduced to dance by performances of the Flor Pachon Ballet Company and the Ballet Tierra Colombiana, she was an avid dance student from a young age, her formal dance training began with an introduction to performing arts with an emphasis on contemporary dance at College preparatory program by ASAB Academy arts. Finishing at CENDA got the title as Professional Technical in Contemporary Dance, after studying and performing for 8 years. She established her own company Hutza Mara Pianda to which she started as Choreographer during 4 years and was recognized for investigating of theoretical and practical of traditional Colombian folk dance, revealing her unique style, winning several major stimulus to the level of dance in the capital of Colombia in choreographic composition line, at the same time She has been dancing for different dance companies, exploring Ballet, Folk, Contemporary, Modern and African
2 Contemporary dancing styles to express herself. She now finds herself in Melbourne -Australia to evolve as a dance performer, choreographer and director discovering more of that, which inspires her work. DARREN VIZER Trained at Queensland University of Technology in Dance. The Laban Center for Movement and Dance, London. The Ensemble Acting Studios, Sydney. VCA Post Graduate in Performance Creation Choreography. Darren is a former gymnast and trampolinist. SARAH DERRUM Between1998 and 2002 Sarah spent a year in West Africa and 1 month in Havana, Cuba studying traditional music and dance. In 2004 she introduced Afro Funk to Melbourne, fusing her knowledge of traditional moves with Hip Hop. For the past 12 years she has been teaching a variety of dance styles at workshops, schools, festivals and events and currently holds regular weekly classes in Booty Dance. Sarah has devised and performed acts for theatre, film and television, comedy and neo burlesque. Sarah was a founding member of award winning dance troupe Monkey Brigade, performed a guest role as a dance teacher on The Secret Life of Us, holds an Honours degree in Performance Studies from Victoria University and recently travelled to Canada to present her work in Vancouver, B.C. NEDA RAHMANI Performer Neda Rahmani's foray into various musical styles, and her extensive performance experience has culminated in a highly enthusiastic dance style influenced by Afro Brazilian, Funk and Hip Hop culture. Her percussive musical talent is matched by her onstage energy and charisma. A trained dancer Neda effortlessly incorporates costuming and energetic dance into her live performances captivating her audiences - and always engaging them to feel part of the show. DEMI SORONO Demi Sorono is an outstanding performer who has been enlightening audiences in the Melbourne club scene since 2000 with her extraverted and exuberant style. She recently won the Wellington, New Zealand International B-Girl Battle. Demi is undoubtedly placing her mark on the International Dance scene. Demi Sorono aka Demilition B-Girl is originally from the Philippines and is now based in Melbourne. Since the age of 7
3 years Demi has embraced the Melbourne Hip Hop scene. Her passion for dancing and Hip Hop culture has led her to a place where she is an inspiration to young women through her performing and teaching abilities. She has had over 5 years experience in popping, locking, breaking, hip hop, funk and just in the last year learning the fundamentals of milking, krumping, stripping, shaking and clowning. She has also managed to feature as a dancer in music video dance clips such as, Kyle 'Turn it Up', Isreal 'Old Skool Luv' and Diafrix 'Hold On'. Demi is a full time mummy whilst juggling to teach a few hours a week! EDWARD SHABBA ESHUN Shabba is a professional dancer from Ghana, West Africa. His styles include Traditional, Contemporary, Comedy, Acrobatics, RnB and Hip Hop. Shabba was a member of Asanti Dance Theatre in Ghana, where he trained, taught and performed all over Ghana. He then went on to be a member of African Footprints International where he performed and facilitated workshops throughout Ghana, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Italy. As such he has taught workshops to a variety of people from different cultures, backgrounds, ages and abilities. Arriving in Australia in 2009 he is an active member of Asanti Dance Theatre Australia, and performs regularly with various African performance groups here in Melbourne. JACOB BOEHME Jacob Boehme is the founder and Artistic Director of Idja Dance Theatre, Victoria s first Indigenous contemporary dance company and Company in residence at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. Jacob is a Melbourne born artist of Narangga/Kaurna (South Australia) heritage. Trained in dance at NAISDA and alumni of the Victorian College of the Arts (Masters in Puppetry 2007), Jacob is a choreographer and theatre maker who weaves contemporary and traditional dance with visual theatre and Indigenous storytelling for both stage and screen. With 14 years experience in teaching dance and puppetry to remote and regional Indigenous communities, Jacob has also completed residencies teaching traditional Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander dance with Teatre Ilmo Helsinki, Ishara Puppet Theatre Delhi (Asialink Residency) and the Schaxpir International Theatre Festival Linz YUMI UMIUMARE Born in Hyogo, Japan, Yumi is the only Japanese Butoh Dancer in Australia and the creator of provocative Butoh Cabaret works. Originally a member of the seminal Butoh Company DaiRakudakan in Tokyo, she moved to Australia and in Over the last 20 years Yumi s versatile work in her distinctive style of hybrid dance-theatre has been seen in numerous dance, theatre and film productions throughout Australia, Japan, Europe, New Zealand and South Eastern Asia. SABRINA WEI-LUNG CHOU Born in Taiwan, Sabrina is a Choreographer, Performer, Singer and Cultural educator. Sabrina graduated with a Bachelor of Dance (Honors) at the Chinese Cultural University, Taipei and has extensive performing experience including a residency as principal contemporary dancer with the Taipei National Theatre, touring in Japan, Canada and in the USA at venues in New York, Washington, Hawaii, and Chicago. Sabrina immigrated to Australia on a Distinguished Talent visa in Since then she has completed a Diploma of Dance Teaching & Management, at the Box Hill Institute of TAFE (2001) and a Graduate
4 Diploma of Choreography at the Victorian College of the Arts (2002). She has been awarded the Overseas Outstanding Youth Award by the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, Taiwan (2009); first prize in the Chinese Ex-Patriot Writer s Competition Melbourne, 2003; and Best Artist in the Song Writing and Singing Competition, Yi Juan Youth Association, Taipei Sabrina is a co-founding member of KITA and since 2001 she has choreographed, performed, and run workshops at schools, community events and festivals; and has toured Victorian schools with the Regional Arts Victoria Arts2Go program. She completed three Artists in Schools projects funded by Arts Victoria in 2007 Coconut, Rice and Bamboo and 2008 and The Golden Mountain, NSW with Cultural Infusion and Pan Event Entertainment, Recently, Sabrina worked with contemporary dance choreographer Alistair MacIndoe from Chunky Move performing at the Meat Market. She performed in180 Seconds in (Disco) Heaven or Hell, part of the Dance Massive program presented by Arts House, and she was an ensemble singer and dancer in Miss Saigon with CLOC Musical Theatre. She also choreographed the contemporary dance work ABC at the Victorian College of the Arts in PAUL MALEK Paul Malek has had extensive training in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Character, Kinetic awareness, Improvisation, Dance Making, Folk Dancing, Acrobatics, and in his later years Lyrical and Hip Hop. Graduate of Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and Bartuccio's Dance and Promotions Centre. His Choreography was featured on Channel 10 s third season of So You Think You Can Dance, choreographing two pieces. Has Directed all 12 Collaboration The Project and Project Y Productions, as well as Animalia, Short Film for fashion label Trimapee, Dance Shorts Halfway and Photograph, Patma Childrens Concerts, Stomp and Clomp Tap Show and many workshops in all states of Australia. Currently teaching and choreographing for Full Time Institutions Jason Coleman s Ministry of Dance, Dance World Studios, The Space Dance and Arts Centre, Patrick Studios Australia, The Edge Performers School and Spectrum Dance. Developed a 12 level Jazz syllabus for Australian Teachers of Dancing, which is now taught in schools throughout Australia, Asia, United Kingdom and Norway. Rehearsal director for Jean-Ann Ryan Productions FL, Norwegian Cruise Lines & Disney Special Events as Dance Captain, P&O Cruises and Everybody Loves Rhonda. CLAUDIA SANGIORGI DALIMORE Growing up in an artistic environment Claudia s love of dance, theatre, music and art, harvested from early childhood. Having her very first stage experience at age four Belly Dancing alongside her mother, and then at age eight her first collaborative exhibition with her father. Pursuing her passion for performance she has since continued to develop her unique and diverse dance skills. Dancing in styles ranging from Tap, Jazz, and Contemporary to Middle Eastern, African, Creative, Brazilian and Hip Hop. Claudia began her professional teaching career 5 years ago teaching traditional African dance and Hip Hop as well as choreographing her own works. She was part of dance theatre trio Monkey Brigade and now leader of dance group Bam Bam Assassins.. Claudia s talent has seen her teach workshops, dance programs and perform at a vast range of festivals, venues, community events and corporate functions throughout Melbourne & Australia. She has featured with bands such as Afro Mandinko, Tumbarumba, Soukouse ba Congo, Sietta, Diafrix,Mista Sovava, the Melbourne Ska orchestra and Bomba. As well as DJ's Uber Lingua Sound, Sista Itations and Panda moor. Now the new face of dance street wear label "Don't Walk Dance". She currently teaches dancehall and afro funk classes on a weekly basis, and also works as a freelance photographer, video artist and editor for Melbourne's multicultural and urban arts community, most recently collaborating with musical acts NEDA and
5 DIAFRIX as well as photographers Damien William Vincenzi and James Looker for music video production. Three simultaneous programs will be running alongside the Melbourne Festival program in association with Multicultural Arts Victoria where participating international companies will be linking with local arts practitioners and communities in a creative dialogue.
