1 School of Business Bachelor Of Science In Business With A Concentration In Marketing The Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB) undergraduate degree program is designed to prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values to effectively apply various business principles and tools in an organizational setting. The BSB foundation is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practical application, while examining the areas of accounting, critical thinking and decision-making, finance, business law, management, marketing, organizational behavior, research and evaluation, and technology. Students are required to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the undergraduate business curricula through an integrated topics course. The Marketing Concentration addresses how to identify customer needs, how to communicate information about products and services to customers and potential customers, where to market, the pricing of products and services, and how to respond to growing demands in different countries and cultures. The marketing concentration builds upon the foundational marketing course, which allows further study in the areas of consumer behavior, advertising, marketing research, public relations, promotion measurement and analysis, and international and global marketing. Marketing managers need creative, analytical, and leadership abilities to manage the marketing function of the business enterprise. Required Course of Study GEN195 Foundations Of University Studies The essential information, skills, tools, and techniques necessary for academic success and personal effectiveness at University of Phoenix are introduced in this course. The course develops and applies practical knowledge and skills immediately relevant to first-year university students. Course topics include goal setting and working with personal motivation, understanding and using university resources, developing efficient study habits, making the most of personal learning styles, and how best to manage time and reduce personal stress levels. BCOM275 Business Communications And Critical Thinking This course introduces students to the foundations of communication in a business setting. Students will develop skills in critical thinking and decision making through the forms of written communication, including memos, s, business letters, and reports. Other topics include communication ethics and cross-cultural communications, personal communication styles, solving organizational problems, and the evaluation of an organizations strategic direction. BIS220 Introduction To Computer Applications And Systems This course provides an overview of Business Information Systems. Students learn to apply Microsoft Office tools including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software to accomplish business objectives. Other topics include uses of application software and the Internet for effective problem solving, exploration of relevant emerging technologies, and how information is used across different industries. 2 MGT230 Management Theory And Practice This course explores the rich field of management in theory and practice, and as both a science and an art. Students learn to apply management concepts to current workplace issues. Other topics include increasing competitive forces, expectations for successful performance of employees and organizations, and achieving desired business goals. ACC290 Principles Of Accounting I This course covers the fundamentals of financial accounting as well as the identification, measurement, and reporting of the financial effects of economic events on an enterprise. Students will learn to examine financial information from the perspective of management. Other topics include decision-making, planning, and controlling from the perspective of a practicing manager. Prerequisites: MTH209 ACC291 Principles Of Accounting II This course introduces accounting concepts in a business environment. Students learn to create and apply accounting documents in making better business decisions. Other topics include plant assets, liabilities, accounting for corporations, investments, statements of cash flows, financial statement analysis, time value of money, payroll accounting, and other significant liabilities. Prerequisites: ACC290 RES351 Business Research This course evaluates the process of conducting business research for improving decision making within an organization. Students will learn to apply an understanding of commonly employed business research techniques to improve a situation, solve a problem, or change a process. Other topics include problem framing, data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. Prerequisites: MGT230 ETH316 Ethics And Social Responsibility This course provides a foundational perspective for ethics and social responsibility in relationship to individuals, organizations, and the community. Emphasis is placed on the inter-related nature of ethics, morality, legal responsibility, and social issues MGT311 Organizational Development This organizational behavior course encompasses the study of individual and group behavior in organizational settings. Students will learn to examine their role in an organization. Other topics include strategic elements of organizational behavior, workforce diversity, managing change, effective communication, and performance systems. Prerequisites: MGT230 ECO372 Principles Of Macroeconomics This course provides students with the basic theories, concepts, terminology, and uses of macroeconomics. Students learn practical applications for macroeconomics in their personal and professional lives through assimilation of fundamental concepts and analysis of actual economic events. Prerequisites: MGT230, MTH209, MTH212, MTH233 LAW421 Contemporary Business Law This course reviews the U.S. legal system, common law and its development, organizational structures, and the regulatory environment pertinent to business. Students will learn to critically examine torts, crimes, and business ethics. They will also examine contracts; business associations including agencies, partnerships, and corporations; wills, estates, trusts, and other legal entities; securities regulations; and investor protections. Prerequisites: ETH316, MGT230 ECO365 Principles Of Microeconomics This course provides students with the basic theories, concepts, terminology, and uses of microeconomics. Students learn practical applications for microeconomics in their personal and professional lives through assimilation of fundamental concepts and analysis of actual economic events. Prerequisites: MGT230, MTH209, MTH212, MTH233 FIN370 Finance For Business This course introduces the student to the essential elements of finance for business. Emphasis is placed on financial management, financial markets, and the tools, techniques, and methodologies used in making financial decisions. Topics include: Financial planning, working capital management, capital budgeting, long term financing, and international finance. Prerequisites: ACC291, MGT230 MKT421 Marketing This course involves an integrated analysis of the role of marketing within the total organization. Specific attention is given to the analysis of factors affecting consumer behavior, the identification of marketing variables, the development and use of marketing strategies, and the discussion of international marketing issues. Prerequisites: MGT230 QNT351 Quantitative Analysis For Business This course integrates applied business research and descriptive statistics. Students will learn to apply business research and descriptive statistics in making better business decisions. Other topics include examination of the role of statistics in research, statistical terminology, the appropriate use of statistical techniques, and interpretation of statistical findings in business and research. Prerequisites: MTH209, RES351, MTH212, MTH233 BUS475 Integrated Business Topics The integrated business topics course examines strategic business management while integrating topics from previously completed business foundation coursework. This allows students to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the undergraduate business curricula with a significant emphasis placed on the assessment of individual outcomes to determine content mastery. 3 Concentration MKT435 Consumer Behavior This is an introductory course in analyzing consumer and purchasing behaviors as basic considerations in the development of a marketing mix. Economic, social, psychological, and cultural factors are considered as they relate to the development of marketing programs. Prerequisites: MKT421 MKT498 Integrated Marketing Strategy This course provides students with an in-depth study of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC). Emphasis will be placed on the strategic roles and integration of marketing communication tools including advertising, public relations, sales, promotion, event management, media selection, and marketing management. COM340 Mass Communication This course delves into the processes and technology of communication on societal and global levels accomplished through the print and electronic media. Content of communication studied ranges from journalism, entertainment, commerce, and advocacy to personal communication on the Internet. The dynamic changes that have taken place and are evolving today in mass media and mass communication will be considered along with predictions about the role of mass communication. Prerequisites: MKT421 COM400 Media And Society The development and evolution of contemporary society have become inextricably intertwined with the development and use of electronic media within the past 100 years. This course explores the complex interactions involving society, information, communication, and the electronic media. Controversial topics that media have brought to the fore, and in some cases caused, will be highlighted. Prerequisites: MKT421 MKT438 Public Relations This course provides an introduction to the field of public relations. Areas covered are media relations; promotion; tools used in developing public relations and publicity, and improving customer satisfaction; relationship-building strategies; and ethics and public relations. Prerequisites: MKT421 Communication Arts ~AR only COM170 Elements Of University Composition And Communication I This course addresses the key elements necessary for effective academic writing in college. The course begins with focus on prewriting strategies and builds to drafting and revising essays. In addition, the course includes skill development at the sentence and paragraph level. COM172 Elements Of University Composition And Communication II This course builds upon the foundations established in COM/170. It addresses the various rhetorical modes necessary for effective college essays: narration, illustration, description, process analysis, classification, definition, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, and argumentation. In addition, requirements for research essays, including the use of outside sources and appropriate formatting, are considered. Mathematics ~AR only MTH220 College Algebra This course presents traditional concepts in college algebra. Topics include linear, polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, sequences, series, and probability. Science and Technology ~AR only protecting one s family and property. CHM110 Introductory Chemistry This course will examine the basic principles of chemistry conceptually and specifically. The course will apply chemical concepts to address relevant issues ranging from atomic structure and chemical reactions to organic and biological chemistry. The course topics include matter and energy, chemical bonding, intermolecular forces, chemical equilibrium, and nuclear, organic, and biological chemistry. Students will apply these concepts using practical examples, facilitated discussions, and experiments conducted through a virtual laboratory. It explores the unique aspects of each medium as well as interactions across various media that combine to create rich environments for information sharing, entertainment, business, and social interaction in the United States and around the world. The physical and mental aspects of psychology are traced through lifespan development with emphasis on psychological health and wellness. Based in various historical traditions, the course is set in the context of contemporary psychological principles. POL215 State And Local Political Processes This course provides students with an introduction to the organization, administration, and functions of American state and local governments. It assists in building skills for performing more complex mathematical operations and problem solving than in earlier courses.
