1 ASHE Healthcare Facilities Management Training Program Course Content Description ASHE provides a Health Care Facilities Management Training program that is based on the five topic areas listed in the outline of the most recent edition (June 2014) of the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) Handbook. The objective of this training is to prepare the participants to be more effective and efficient in managing health care facilities. The courses and modules take a deep dive into critical topics for effective management of health care facilities. This training may be beneficial in helping those who meet the experience requirements for the CHFM in preparing for the exam. While the training includes topics from the CHFM outline, this training is not mandatory for taking the CHFM exam, and participation in this training program does not insure a passing score on the CHFM exam. The majority of questions on the CHFM exam are not recall questions. As such, the CHFM exam is not easy to study for. Experience is the best preparation for the exam. While this training program will provide a lot of information, the objective is to help the participant draw upon their experience and the experience of others in making logical and analytical health care facility management decisions. The training involves learning experiences that are designed to help each person assess multiple factors in making decisions. TRAINING DESCRIPTION This training series includes both live, virtual, and on-demand training. There are two onsite sessions, at the beginning and at the conclusion. After the first onsite class, participants view the DVD: Becoming a CHFM. They then take on-line e-learning course, Managing Life Safety. Three virtual, webinar-based sessions take place between the on-site sessions. This is concluded by a three-day on-site training session. Following is the sequence of training: 1. Fundamentals of Health Facilities Management 3-day on-site course 2. View becoming a CHFM DVD/Video 3. Managing Life Safety E-learning Course 4. Virtual Session # 1 5. Virtual Session # 2 6. Virtual Session # 3 7. Facility Management Fundamentals Deep Dive and and CHFM review 3-day on-site course

2 Description of Individual Sessions and Activities ONSITE: Fundamentals of Facility Managements: This three-day onsite course is presented as a workshop facilitated by ASHE Faculty. Participants discover the impact that the physical environment has on patient outcomes, patient safety and patient satisfaction and the importance of complying with the various codes and standards applicable to health care facility management. In addition, the course explores the driving factors affecting the operations and maintenance of health care facilities, including regulatory requirements, meeting clinical needs, and financial management of the health care physical environment by focusing on the day-to-day issues that impacts the health care facility professional. The ASHE faculty teaching this course uses a variety of learning tools including lecture, discussion, group exercises, questions and case studies. Becoming A CHFM A DVD will be provided for each participant at the first on-site course. Participants can watch the DVD at their leisure. Managing Life Safety Managing Life Safety is an individually self-paced, e-learning program that provides information and resources needed to effectively manage a health facility's fire and life safety program. The course is completed on-line, allowing the participant to access the training program at their convenience. The participants have a two-month window in which to complete the course. They can choose to complete the course all at once, which typically takes about two days, or they can take the course over the period of one month. Virtual Session # 1 Case Study: Participants receive an assignment (case study) to work on individually prior to the virtual session. A two-hour webinar will be conducted in which the case study will be reviewed, and more in depth information will be presented. The case study provides a real life application of the principles taught during the Fundamentals course and contains homework assignments relative to the CHFM exam. The virtual session is broken into two one-hour segments with the first hour reviewing the participants responses to the case study and the final hour dedicated to focusing on areas of specific need based on the case study and the Fundamentals module. Additional example questions are reviewed and completed to assist participants in gaining greater confidence in the necessary problem solving skills needed for the CHFM exam. At the end of the webinar, and additional assignment will be provided. Virtual Session # 2 Case Study: At the completion of the first virtual session, participants receive a second case study to work on individually. Virtual Session # 2 will examine the case study using a format similar to the first Virtual Session, with the first part of the session reviewing the participants responses to the case study and the final hour dedicated to focusing on areas of specific need based on the case study and the Fundamentals course. Virtual Session # 3 Q & A

3 This virtual session will be scheduled after completion of virtual session #2. This session provides an opportunity for the participants to share any thoughts about application of the material presented or ask questions that they may have developed up to this point in the series. ONSITE: Health Facility Management Deep Dive This three-day onsite course is presented onsite as a workshop facilitated by ASHE Faculty. The topics of compliance, operations and maintenance, PDC, finance, and administration are discussed in greater detail. The last portion of this course includes a review of topics contained in the CHFM outline and includes practice in answering questions based on the material presented in all of the courses. The participants use an electronic audience response system to answer questions, and will be able to compare their response to that of the rest of the group. These questions will not be CHFM exam questions although they may be similar in format, and they will pertain to the topics listed in the outline in the CHFM Handbook. The workshop faculty teaching this course uses a variety of learning tools including lecture, discussion, group exercises, questions and case studies.
