22 20 How will I be taught? Studying involves so much more than just sitting behind a desk it s much more fun than that! So you ve arrived at college, started to make new friends and are finding your way around campus. You re ready to begin your studies, but what does that involve? Read on to find out about the learning experience here at The College. Teaching time While there are lectures and classes when you will be listening to and learning from your teachers, we want to make your classroom time interesting and hands-on wherever possible. In several areas, this involves practical demonstrations. For example in Hospitality, you ll observe how to cook a particular dish before trying it out for yourself and in Music our tutors might demonstrate a new high-level practical skill. Alternatively in our Health and Medical Studies area, you could be involved in creating a new psychology app. Teaching extends beyond the confines of the classroom. For example some of our scientists might take part in a crime scene investigation, or if you re studying English as a Second Language you will take a trip to see English used in real-life situations, such as in a Crown Court. We work with businesses in our classroom time as well. We often have people from a business come in to tell their story or share their knowledge. Or you could be working on a live project where a business needs our help. Life in the classroom is never dull! Personal study time We encourage you to spend a lot of time studying outside the classroom, as this is where you can put your knowledge into practice or choose to carry out your own research or projects.
