Citrix NetScaler Application Delivery Systems Accelerated application performance Citrix NetScaler accelerates web application performance by up to fi ve times by leveraging multiple acceleration technologies and innovative TCP optimisations. Citrix AppCompress and Citrix AppCache deliver highly effi cient data compression and caching of static and dynamic content to speed application responses. NetScaler TCP optimisations overcome the issues caused by high latency and congested network links and are transparent to clients and servers, accelerating the delivery of any enterprise or web-based application while requiring little or no confi guration. Realtime and historical page-level monitoring of end-user performance experience is provided by Citrix EdgeSight for NetScaler. Comprehensive application security The NetScaler Application Firewall technology proactively protects Web applications from application-layer attacks such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, forceful browsing and cookie poisoning, and helps prevent theft and leakage of valuable corporate and customer data. NetScaler also includes high performance, built-in defences against denial of service (DoS) attacks. 2 Increased application availability To help ensure application availability, NetScaler delivers fi ne-grained direction of client requests to ensure optimal distribution of traffi c. In addition to Layer 4 information (protocol and port number), traffi c management policies for TCP applications can be based upon any application-layer content. Administrators can granularly segment application traffi c based upon information contained within an HTTP request body or TCP payload, as well as L4-7 header information such as URL, application data type or cookie. Numerous load-balancing algorithms and extensive server health checks provide greater application availability by ensuring client requests are directed only to correctly behaving servers. Accelerated application performance Citrix NetScaler delivers multiple TCP optimisations to improve the performance of the network and server infrastructure. For example, TCP connection multiplexing reduces thousands of shortlived client connections into a much smaller number of long-lived, persistent server connections. This and other TCP optimisations reduce server load, improving server performance and accelerating application response. NetScaler TCP optimisations are transparent to clients and servers, accelerating the delivery of any enterprise or Web-based application while requiring little or no confi guration. Citrix AppCompress improves end-user performance and reduces bandwidth consumption by compressing Web application data, regardless of whether it is encrypted or unencrypted, before it is sent to the client. Citrix AppCache speeds content delivery to users by providing fast, in-memory caching of both static and dynamically generated HTTP application content. SSL acceleration NetScaler integrates hardware-based SSL acceleration to offl oad the compute-intensive processes of SSL connection setup and bulk encryption from Web servers. SSL acceleration reduces CPU utilisation on servers, freeing server resources for other tasks. SSL acceleration is automatically enhanced by TCP optimisations and is fully integrated with the AppCompress option. 4

Without any performance penalty NetScaler defends against damaging denial of service (DoS) attacks.
