Over 64,481 wells currently producing as of 3/2/12 Ohio ranked 4 th in number of wells drilled after Texas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. 6 A 1280 acre unit would require 32 vertical wells. A single 5 acre horizontal pad, which can accommodate 8 12 wells, would service the 1280 acre area stages of perforating and fracturing per horizontal well. 12 U. S. Geological Survey richest swath of the Utica in Ohio encompasses all or most of Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll and Stark counties, and parts of Coshocton and Guernsey counties. The sweet spot, oil window, is entirely in Ohio with a predicted 17,500 wells needed to extract the assessed 940 million barrels of oil.
