Biohazard, fatal incident clean-up and disaster recovery Monthind provides biohazard cleaning to public and private clients across Essex and the East of England. Our extensively-trained specialist bio hazard cleaning personnel can be deployed to any scene where a biological hazard has emerged, including domestic incidents involving blood spillage, situations that require crime scene or trauma cleaning, and major incidents such as train crashes and bomb blasts involving multiple victims with various levels of injury. Biohazard cleaning is essential in order to ensure that any risk posed by a biohazard is nullified, to the degree where it no longer presents a public health risk. Monthind is relied upon and trusted by various public agencies including Essex Police as well as by numerous private clients to undertake biohazard cleaning. We understand that confidentiality and tact are essential to the performance of these tasks, in addition to the in-depth training that our cleaning personnel receive. This high level of training means we are certified to tackle all four categories of biohazard. We apply the same level of professionalism to every single call-out we receive, whether it is a major or a minor biohazard.

Services covered by this potentially difficult area of operation include: Clean-up and removal of bio-waste and medical cleans Removal of syringes, sharps and drug related materials Clean-up of animal and human body fluids and excrement Clean up of trauma and crime scenes Unforeseen suicide and death clean up services Clean-up after fire or flood damage In providing these sensitive services we operate with full legislative compliance and all materials are disposed of at incinerator sites licensed to take the materials. Contents Biohazard Overview...2 What is Category 1 & 2?...4 What is Category 3 & 4?...5 Infection Control...6

The most severe of all bio hazard situations, a category 1 is a major incident with multiple victims, who may have suffered various injuries. The event and its repercussions are in evidence over a large area and require many biohazard cleaning crews for a prolonged period of time in order to address. Significant resources will be required in order to eliminate any visual or bacterial remnants of the event. Examples of category 1 incidents: Train crashes Plane crashes Bomb blasts Large-scale road traffic accidents Monthind s cleaning personnel are fully trained to deal with category 1 incidents. They provide essential support to emergency services and owners of affected property, and ensure public health is protected as far as possible from any biohazard threat. Category 1 biohazards must be attended by a bioengineer with a Primary Qualification. A bio first aider with a Secondary Qualification can assist in decontamination, but only under supervision of a bioengineer. A category 2 bio hazard is a major incident involving single or multiple victims who have sustained various levels of injury and where severe trauma clean up is required. The incident will have taken place in a confined area and will require one or two biohazard cleaning crews over a given period of time. Examples of a category 2 incident: Decomposition Fall from height Suicide on railway Road traffic accident Monthind s cleaning crews are fully trained to cope with the challenges of such events, ensuring any biohazard risk is contained and eliminated. A bioengineer with a Primary Qualification must be present in the decontamination of a category 2 biohazard. A bio first aider with a Secondary Qualification can assist in decontamination of a category 2 as long as he or she is under the supervision of a bioengineer.

A category 3 bio hazard may arise from a minor incident involving a single person (usually) and may require vomit/ faeces/blood cleanup and the clean-up of other bodily fluids. The area affected will be limited, with nominal spread or splatter. The task of eliminating any biohazard risk should be fairly straight forward. A single bio hazard cleaner may be able to clean the scene on his or her own. Examples of category 3: Act of violence requiring crime scene cleaners Minor industrial accident Flesh Wounds Vomit Presence of sharps A category 4 bio hazard might arise as a result of a domestic incident, a minor injury, a spillage of blood or an occupier purge. An example of a category 4 is a DIY accident where blood cleanup or the removal of other body fluids is required. A bioengineer, having achieved a Primary Qualification, is legally certified to work on the decontamination of category 4 bio hazards, along with all other categories. A bio first aider, having achieved a Secondary Qualification, can also attend category 4 incidents without the supervision of a bioengineer. A bioengineer, having achieved a Primary Qualification, is legally permitted to work on the decontamination of category 3 bio hazard scenes, together with all other categories. A bio first aider, with a Secondary Qualification, can also attend category 3 incidents without the supervision of a bioengineer.

Infection Control Infection control is an extremely important aspect of the specialist cleaning work we undertake at Monthind. Our highly trained operatives have a great depth of experience in all manner of situations where there is a risk of infection, whether posed by the presence of blood, saliva, urine, semen, faeces, breast milk, vaginal secretions or other fluids. Infections borne by such fluids pose a serious risk, and if affected areas are not decontaminated quickly, they may enter other persons bodies by way of the mouth, nose, eyes, broken or cut skin, or by absorption. Viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis borne on the blood and other bodily fluids can pose a serious public health risk. Transmission may occur in a number of ways, such as by being cut by sharps, needles or razors among other objects that have been in contact with infected blood or other fluid. Infection may also occur if someone touches dried blood/fluid and then touches their nose or mouth. Monthind uses the most effective and safe methods for decontaminating potentially harmful fluids, all of which ensure the four key stages of clean-up take place - namely neutralization, disinfection, removal and incineration. Monthind possesses all the applicable licences for transportation and disposal of such waste, and our staff members have received full and rigorous training in all aspects of infection control. Our team members have experience in decontaminating a wide range of environments, including hospitals, residential homes, domestic settings and police stations. All staff members are mindful of the sensitive nature of this work. All cleaning work undertaken by Monthind is carried out in strict adherence to CoSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), Environment Agency and HSE guidelines, in order to ensure our employees and the public are provided with the highest levels of protection. Organisations of all types have called upon our infection control services, not only in the south east of England, but across the UK. The combination of excellent, ongoing training, the best equipment, and a degree of experience that few other firms can match, has made us one of the leading infection control specialists in the country.
