Samford is a great university in Alabama and my time with this institution was simply second to none. During this time I was inducted into the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau. I graduated with a GPA of 3.9. I did multiple rotations that offered me the opportunity to have experience in medicine from birth to death and deliver care and develop skills related to the treatment of every body system. I also got to participate and become skilled in multiple minor surgical procedures and I am well versed in those and have confidence in my ability to have positive outcomes. My level of autonomy during this time was very high and I got to make decisions on complex cases. During my time at Samford, I attended classes and worked full time in order to pay for tuition. I developed an enormous work ethic during this time and pushed myself very hard to transition to a different profession, and offer a greater level of care to my future patients. Nurse practitioner rotations that were done during that time include the following: 1. Family medicine (Adult and Geriatrics) with Manuel Griego DO a. Conditions treated during this rotation included: Infectious disease, cardiovascular pathology, dermatological pathology, GI pathology, GU pathology, mental health issues, musculoskeletal conditions, hematological pathologies, woman s health, neurological conditions, ENT pathologies, general physicals and wellness exams, pain management, respiratory pathologies, and neuro-diagnostics. I also had the opportunity to practice in a multi-cultural clinic and develop the ability to do a physical examination in Spanish. 2. Family medicine (Adult and Geriatrics) with Kendra Breithaupt NP-C a. I also had the opportunity to practice in a multi-cultural clinic and develop the ability to do a physical examination in Spanish. b. Conditions treated during this rotation included: I had a great experience of doing a lot of well woman exams and seeing all forms of infectious disease and complications related to labor and delivery and female gynecological health concerns. I had the opportunity to assist in various surgical and invasive procedures including C-sections, ligations, uterine ablations, colposcopies and birth control. 4. Elective Rotation at Presbyterian Hospital with Ana Tseng MD as a Neurological Hospitalist a. Conditions treated during this rotation included: During this rotation I had the pleasure and opportunity to understand working in a hospital environment, hospital administration and the management of medicine in a larger setting with multiple providers and going from personal practice outpatient issues to inpatient management. The main focus was on stroke management; however, all forms of neurological care were 10

11 observed, practiced and managed during this time. This was a comfortable time for me due to my level of previous neurological training, but it was high stress with a lot of hours and a lot of work in order to offer adequate care. I got to experience a high paced environment with an enormous amount of complexity related to care. I also had the opportunity to work with multiple disciplines and participate in care that involved a team approach. Hardin-Simmons University (Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing): BSN, Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse During my time at Hardin-Simmons University is where I received my BS in nursing and did clinical hospital rotations in nursing.
