Bond, PhD, RN-BC Current nursing faculty are well aware that there is an impending nursing faculty shortage and in some locations, the nursing faculty shortage is already a reality. The shortage of faculty has been named as one of the primary reasons that many qualified nursing students, undergraduate and graduate, are not admitted into schools of nursing. NCLN President, Mark Hand, asked that I write a few short paragraphs for the NCLN newsletter based on my dissertation about the nursing faculty shortage. While it is difficult for me to condense nearly 300 pages of Ann Judd Nash Healthcare Systems Ryan Lewis Clincial Faculty Pitt Community College Judy Maynard ADN Instructor Fayetteville Technical Community College Joanne McClave Instructor Wayne Community College Wendy Miller Clinical Assistant Professor Appalachian State University Catherine P. NLN Leadership Institute Support Expands New York, NY - January 24, The National League for Nursing today announced increased funding support of several of its innovative initiatives for faculty development. The gift, made through the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing's Future, will facilitate an expansion in the coming year of two of the NLN's signature leadership programs and make possible the creation of a third program within the NLN Leadership Institute. The gift will be awarded through the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education, as have the previous bequests. To read more click here. What was the total number of attendees at the Fall Meeting? Quick Links More About Us NLN Contact Us Budget Report By Diana K. Bond, Treasurer Thank you for the opportunity to serve as treasurer of the NC League for Nursing. I have been in this role since September We just completed our constituent report to the National League for Nursing (NLN) and here is a brief synopsis. NCLN ended 2012 with assets of $19, after collecting revenue from NLN, individual dues and our educational event in the amount of $9, NCLN also spent $9, for the fall educational event, website redesign, NLN convention attendance by the president and vice-president and contracted organizational management. For the 2013 budget year, we plan to offer two educational activities and continue with contracted management of the organization for a proposed budget of $23,909 with offsetting revenues of registration fees, individual memberships and support from NLN. For questions, you may contact me at 2013 Harriet Cook Carter Lecture "Healing the Wounds of War" On February 6, 2013, the Honorable Linda Schwartz, DrPH, MSN, RN, USAF (Ret), FAAN, will give the 2013 Harriet Cook Carter Lecture on Healing the Wounds of War from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Duke University School of Nursing Auditorium. 4 service and the long-term health consequences these may have on veterans and their families.
