2 Program Inclusions Binnacle s Fitness in Schools program incorporates the nationally recognised qualification: SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness. The course covers the skills and knowledge required of a worker entering the Fitness industry as an Exercise / Gym Instructor. In particular, Fitness in Schools involves: The industry-recognised First Aid Certificate HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Learning about the Sport, Fitness and Recreation (SFR) industry Using and maintaining fitness and sport equipment Following health and safety standards in the workplace Delivering community fitness programs Providing quality customer service Conducting a risk assessment on fitness activities Providing client screening and health assessments Providing healthy eating information to clients Instructing and monitoring fitness programs Conducting warm-up and cool-down programs Planning and delivering gym programs Working with specific population clients e.g. older adults Developing skills in exercise science, including anatomy and physiology This is achieved by you working alongside a qualified Fitness Trainer (your teacher) and other fitness/sport coaches to conduct community-based fitness and recreation activities and programs to clients (students, teachers, staff and families) within your school community. What does the program involve? The program involves learning about what it takes to become an Exercise Professional. This learning will take place in a range of settings, including classroom and outdoors involving use of the school s fitness facility. Training also includes practical experience as an Exercise/Gym Instructor and Activity Assistant at the school. Assessment activities include the completion of practical and knowledge tasks throughout the program. Many of the practical tasks will be observed while participating as an Exercise/Gym Instructor or while participating in practical lessons. This will often require the completion of a fitness industry document (e.g. exercise program). Knowledge tasks are generally short answer quizzes - completed online - that test your knowledge against one or more of the competency units. Student Information Fitness (SIS30315): Jan P age

3 Completing Assessments All assessment tasks (including any resources required) are completed online and allow for commencement at any time. Each term, a specific number of assessment tasks are due for completion. Your teacher will regularly review your completion of assessment. If gaps are identified (i.e. assessment tasks incomplete or Not Yet Satisfactory ), you will be required to finalise your assessment in your own time (e.g. during exam block) before the next school term commences. As per the flowchart below, you will store your completed assessment (and associated documents) for your teacher to mark and inform you of the outcome ( Satisfactory or Not Yet Satisfactory ). Assessment completed online (Binnacle Lounge) Access to training resources, to assist with assessment, also available at your Binnacle Lounge. 2. Teacher marks Assessment. Knowledge (K) assessment items are auto-marked via Binnacle s online assessment platform. Teacher marks all Practical (P) assessment, ensuring any practical tasks deemed Not Yet Satisfactory are attended to by the student prior to the end of term. 5 Career Pathways Due to the competency-based nature of Vocational Education and Training, extension students may be in a position to accelerate an early completion (from mid-year 12). Graduates of Binnacle s Fitness in Schools program are able to undertake their Certificate IV in Fitness, either while part way through Year 12 or after Year 12, through our alliance partner RTO, at a Binnacle graduate exclusive price. Further information pertaining to the Certificate IV in Fitness (including RTO and price) will be supplied throughout your course. Please advise your Fitness Teacher if you would like further information regarding the Certificate IV or other inter-related industry pathway qualifications (e.g. Business).
