Examples of Projects where elearning Studios have developed content at different levels.
Interaction Level 1: Example Fraser Hart Fraser Hart wanted an e-learning solution in the form of an app that could be played on multiple devices including PC, tablet and Smartphone. The initial idea was to use the App as a repository for staff training pdf documents and the staff handbook, however, ELS suggested that using the resources provided we could create a more interactive app that was divided into different subjects and within each subject area the following: An animation providing an overview of key concepts or a process. A list of key learning points (at a glance). A serious game to check understanding about the subject. An assessment or quiz. Reference resources. Using the documents provided and discussions with the HR Manager and Store Managers, ELS created the audio scripts and animations, content for the serious game, key points and assessment questions.
Fraser Hart Example: Training Animations These short animations are designed to go through key learning points, concepts or processes in an easy and quick way. They include music and a voiceover. Screen shot examples
Fraser Hart Example: Serious Games/ Interactive Activities The serious games/ interactions are designed to check understanding and knowledge. In this example learners must answer all of the questions correctly on good practice in recruitment interviewing in order to fill in all the segments of a diamond and complete the heart path.
Interaction Level 1: Example Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cancer Research UK (CRUK) wanted to provide an e-learning course for a new initiative called Racercise which trains fitness instructors in delivering a regular programme of exercise for a group who like to keep fit and want to work towards taking part in the Race for Life campaign. ELS worked with representatives from CRUK to create the content and formulate it into animations, processes and quizzes in order to help the instructors deliver Racercise Classes.
Interaction Level 2: Zenith Technologies Zenith Technologies employees are required to train in the Delta-V software which is used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. Any mistakes/errors in using this software could potentially be extremely costly. As a result, Zenith required an e-learning package, made up of several software simulations in order for their staff to train in using the software without having to use the live system. ELS worked with the system experts and the software manuals to put together an e-learning package which included a series of procedures that would be simulated within the e-learning material. These simulations were split into 3 sections: 1. A Show me section which was a narrated video, showing the trainee each of the steps within the procedure. 2. A Try me section which was an interactive guided simulation where the trainee has to use the software but is guided through by various instructions and helpful hints. 3. A Test me sections which an unguided interactive simulation. The trainee is tested on their knowledge of the procedure.
Interaction Level 3: MRC Project Management The Medical Research Council (MRC) wanted to provide an e-learning course on Project Management Skills to train their Senior Field Workers in The Gambia. ELS put together a content specification document that was written by our in-house project managers. Working closely with MRC representatives from both the UK and The Gambia, the document included specific examples with would relate to the Field Workers dayto-day tasks. ELS then used the content document to put together a 4 module e- learning package that included, animations, key learning points, assessments, case studies and useful reference resources. There was also a mentor who popped up with useful tips and advice throughout the course. As part of the course learners work on their own case study project to complete tasks and demonstrate their ability to apply what they have learned to a project.
Interaction Level 3: Let s Work Together The Let s Work Together (LWT) interactive e-learning course includes 5 modules covering a variety of risks that clients of home visitors may face and how and who to refer clients to once the risks have been identified. The course contains a wealth of valuable and practical information from experts in a wide variety of fields which can be collected through a course portfolio/ toolkit. Throughout the course learners experience animations, 3D virtual reality home visits, interactive scenarios, real life stories and interactive activities which have all been design to stimulate the learner and provide some practice for real life situations. Gathering the Content and Working Together From the outset it was decided it was extremely important that we base the e-learning programme on high quality content and that the spirit of working together was at its core. The LWT project managers arranged a series of groups and individual sessions consisting of professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise from all across Staffordshire including the Fire Service, NHS, Council, pharmacists, weight management, dementia support, environment and housing support, carer support, substance abuse support, debt management support to work on specific areas within the programme. These professionals bought along presentations, resources, media and spent time providing us with practical, information, content and guidance in order for us to format it into a course.
Interaction Level 4: Example Count Me In The Count Me In E-Learning Programme is designed to transfer knowledge and ideas about setting up and delivering a supported work programme for people with special needs in the cultural sector. The aims of the programme are: To discover methods used by Gaia Museum to implement a work programme for people with special educational needs. To create a work based training programme for people with special needs for the learners own museum, gallery or cultural institution based upon the methodologies used in Gaia Museum. Working with a variety of experts from cultural organisations across Europe ELS gathered and formatted content in order to create a programme that included: A virtual visit to Gaia Museum in Denmark to discover their methodologies. A framework with which learners could create their own work based programme including Management, Delivery, Good Practice and Right & Responsibilities. Resources and Tools to support the creation of a new work based programme.
Interaction Level 4: Example NHS Worcestershire Following a report about dental reception services in the Worcestershire area a number of areas for improvement were identified. ELS designed an e-learning programme that addressed these areas for improvement. The e-learning was based around the concept of A Week in the Life of a Dental Receptionist. There are different objectives for each day and in conjunction with the e-learning the learner has to complete a series of real life tasks in order to improve their reception service. These tasks included making posters/ information about pricing structures, risk registers, creating patient survey s etc. Evidence is collected in a portfolio and checked during their monthly supervision.
