Curriculum Status and Curriculum Approval This is a revised curriculum based on the 2008 Bachelor of Business Administration Program in Tourism Business Management. External Factors or Necessary Development to Be Considered in Curriculum Planning 11.1 Economic Situation and Development The significance of the income from the tourism business has been increasing The demands for labor in the tourism and service industry are increasing, especially for those with skills and experience in providing services or with the trained knowledge and expertise in the service business Tourist destinations in Asia have become more competitive, and the service industry needs the personnel who are knowledgeable and capable of competing in the labor markets both inside and outside the country There are economic cooperations among countries in nearby regions; for example, national or international standard specifications of capability for personnel in the tourism and hotel industry The ASEAN agreement on the acceptance of professional specifications for personnel in the tourism and service business, which allows the freedom of lobor transfer within the member countries of ASEAN starting in the year This offers a much greater professional opportunities for Thai people who also need to increase their potentiality, especially in international languages Social and Cultural Situation and Development Communities participate in making their own tourism plans and development The current technological development and advances have an impact on the needs for labor in the tourism and service industry The development towards a multicultural society requires manpower with the knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural changes induced primarily by tourism Tourism is one of the factors promoting the preservation of Thai art and culture. 12. The Effects Mentioned in No.11 on Curriculum Development and Their Relevance to the Missions of the Institution 12.1 Curriculum Development Regular improvement and development are needed to make the curriculum correspond to the economic, social and cultural changes The curriculum must be developed to meet the standard recognized nationally and internationally The curriculum management must be distinctive and modern so that the graduates are needed in the labor market of the tourism industry.

7 Section 2 Specific Information of the Curriculum 1. Philosophy, Significance and Objectives of the Curriculum 1.1 Philosophy of the Curriculum Division of Tourism Business Management, Naresuan University International College determines to produce knowledgeable and skillful graduates who are able to meet the demands of the labor market in the tourism and service business, to apply the theoretical knowledge in tourism, hotel and MICE business management, and to communicate and work with others efficiently. The curriculum focuses on producing moral and ethical business people with the practical skills, professional knowledge and understanding, ability to tackle problems responsibly, honestly and selflessly, and credentials of a good role model who can make use of the tourism business management creatively for national development. Since tourism business is a key mechanism to progressing national development that helps facilitate income distribution and efficient job creation, this requires quality personnel who are ready for competition and global economic changes in both public and private sectors and whose contributions are strong components for national development. 1.2 Objectives of the Curriculum To produce graduates with the following characteristics: Possess the knowledge and skills for tourism business management Possess the skill to communicate well in English as well as in a third language, the skill to creat good interpersonal relations, and the skill of leadership Possess the skill to learn about new development and innovation and to apply them in tourism business operation and management. 1.3 Curriculum Features The identity of NUIC students is the knowledge and skill to use English for communication proficiently. All students majoring in Tourism Business Management are required to take Co-Operative Education to enhance their professional skills in real workplaces and to apply their theoretical knowledge for tourism business management.

Plan for Development / Improvement The plan for the curriculum revision is designed based on the curriculum objectives and the policy framework, goal-oriented strategies and operating plan according to the strategic development plan and its evidence/indicators set by Professor Dr.Sujin Jinayon, President of Naresuan University, as shown in the following table: 2.1 Plan for Development / Improvement Plan for Development Strategies Evidence/Indicators Develop the instruction and learning system and the process to produce graduates who are proficient at work, human relations, thinking, living and problem-solving, who meet the requirements of the country s leading employment sources (Demand-Based Competency), and who are paid higher than the average wage. 1. The university develops basic components essential to the production of quality graduates and useful for the study programs to employ in the development of the students quality; for example: - Create an organization culture with the thirst for knowledge that leads to a knowledge-based society. - Enable the students to enhance their English language skills based on the e- learning system supported by the university s Language Center. - Encourage an exchange of skills by holding trainings and study visits for the lecturers to facilitate the adjustment to the student-centered instruction system, the student-instructor participatory lerning, and the learning process focusing on seeing, thinking, seeking for principles (theories) and practicing. - Provide professional English language instructions focusing on the speaking and listening skills for 1 credit per semester continually until the number of credits fulfill the requirement specified in the curriculum. - Feature at least 1 lecture by a guest lecturer from the business/private/ public sector in each specific course in the curriculum. 1. A complete set of TQF 2, 3 and The lesson plans in the formats of TQF 3 and 4 that facilitate self-learning. 3. The percentage of lectures by guest lecturers, featuring at least 1 lecture by a guest lecturer from the business/private/ public sector in each specific course in the curriculum 4. The students are required to do a professional training or Co- Operative Education. (See TQF4.) 5. The percentage of courses with tutorials 6. Every course has both TQF3 and TQF5. 7. 9 Plan for Development Strategies Evidence/Indicators - Feature the system of Co-Operative Education. 2. Develop the quality of the learning process in the curricula aiming to produce graduates who are able to apply and integrate the overall knowledge in their professional practice by the following methods: - Revise the curricula to shift the focus from content-based learning to problem-based learning/topic-based learning. - Make an earnest reformation of the foreign language learning system by providing a 24-hour self-access technology and communication laboratory. - Provide an efficient and effective tutorial system in all courses. - Require every student to conduct an undergraduate thesis. - Provide opportunities for the instructors and students to do activities together. - Evaluate the instructors teaching performance based on the PDCA system so that the instructors are able to make improvements by themselves. 3. Develop a competency-based assessment system though the following: - Provide an assessment system for the students English and communication technology proficiency. 9. The percentage of students who pass the Information Technology test the first time they take it, based on the criteria specified by the university 10. The percentage of students who are employed/self-employed within 1 year of graduation 11. The graduates average monthly salary is higher than the rate specified by Office of the Civil Service Commission.

10 2.2 Plan for Developing the Learning Outcomes and Specific Skills for the Tourism Business Management Curriculum Domain 1. Morality and Ethics Responsibility, courage, sacrifice, patience, hard work, determination for success, professional code of practice, and good academic behavior 2. Knowledge Ability to apply the knowledge creatively for work in order to create innovations and to solve personal and social problems Plan for Development -Plan the operation and budget for special lectures and practical trainings by experts with experience in service and tourism industry management and professional code of practice. - Require the 3 rd -year students to take Research Methodology for Tourism prior to taking Undergraduate Thesis. - Require the 4 th -year students to take Undergraduate Thesis. Strategies - Find and contact experts in service and tourism industry management and make a list of their names and biodata to be referred to for guest speakers. - Provide a guideline for the instructor of the Research Methodology for Tourism course to fulfill the task of enabling the students to conduct basic research studies. This is to be taken with the course concerning current trends and problems of tourism to help determine the Undergraduate Thesis topics. - Assign thesis advisors to all 4 th -year students to supervise the students undergraduate theses and determine the thesis topics in areas of new developments in the field of tourism business management. Evidence/Indicators - The number of guest speakers corresponds to the number of related courses offered in each semester. - Students academic results in Research Methodology for Service and Tourism IndustryManagement are considered. - The number of the undergraduate theses corresponds to the number of the graduates in each academic year.

Examine and control the academic standard. Survey tourism business entrepreneurs needs for labor. - Assign instructors to design instructions and group activities focusing on instilling in the learners leadership and teamworking skills. - Have students participate in creating environmentally friendly activities to provide services to local communities in the Lower North. Strategies - Organize languagerelated contests and activities such as academic debates, composition contests, etc. - English is assigned as the only medium for instructor-student communication. - Encourage students to access the university s IT system to check their academic performance results and to search the library s databases. - Create sport activities and recreations to develop the students social skills. 13 Section 3 Educational Management System, Curriculum Implementation and Structure 1. Educational Management System The educational management system is a semester system consisting of 2 semsters: First Semester and Second Semester, and Summer Session (if any), according to Naresuan University Regulations for Undergraduate Studies. 2. Curriculum Implementation 2.1 Teaching Days-Times First Semester August-December Second Semester January-May Summer Session May-July (if any) 2.2 Student Qualifications NUIC students are required to have the following characteristics and academic qualifications: (1) A high school certificate or equivalent from institutes approved by Office of the Higher Education Commission or Office of the Civil Service Commission, or (2) Other qualifications as specified annually by NUIC (3) No current record of a mental disorder, of leprosy, of tuberculosis at a critical phase, of elephantiasis at a critical phase, of drug addiction, and of alcoholism (4) No record of court-ordered imprisonment except for a wrongdoing by recklessness or a misdemeanor Student Recruitment (1) The recruitment system of Office of the Higher Education Commission, or (2) Direct recruitment by Naresuan University, or (3) Direct recruitment by NUIC 2.3 Problems Encountered by New Students Problems may arise during the students adjument period from high school study to university study in which students are faced with methods of learning that may be different from what they are familiar with, a social life that is of a greater extent than what they used to have, and classroom and extra-curricular activities that require good time management. Problems may also arise from the students lack of the English proficiency, and the skills and ability needed to study in a higher education level. This is because the medium of all instruction and learning, textbooks, documents and examinations is English, and the methods of instruction are different from those employed in high schools.
