Technology Needs Assessment: Describe the processes(s) used to determine the technology needs for the LEA for and briefly summarize the needs that have been determined. Make sure to include any technology needs that will be supported through E-rate discounts, such as telephone, telecommunications access, Internet, and other E-rate eligible services. Technology needs for the Big Lake Public Schools are identified using information gathered from: Strategic Planning Process Instructional Practice Survey Technology Inventory Building Level Technology PLCs Building Level Leadership Teams Building Level Surveys District Leadership Discussions School Board Work Sessions Assessment of existing technology resources and capabilities 2. Goals and Strategies: List the specific goals and strategies for that address how your LEA will use technology to deliver education and assist with school administration: The Big Lake School District Strategic Plan provides direction for technology in our schools as follows: Shifting technology from a department to a systemic core capacity and asset for all aspects of our district work This will be accomplished in the following ways: Install additional Smart Boards in elementary classrooms Provide professional development for staff in the use of new and existing technologies Utilize wireless technology to expand the availability and utilization of individual Page 2
3 technologies Utilize technology to improve communications between staff and administrators and to support data based decision making by staff and administration Expand the use of data by staff in making instructional decisions Improve communications with parents and the community through the use of technology Utilize technology to enhance communication between teachers and parents Expand online services for parents including the use of online payments for fees and lunch accounts Expand the utilization of Atomic Learning and PD360 for professional development Explore the use of individualized technologies to enhance instruction and improve student learning Increase the use of technology based curriculum supplements Expand the use of Google Apps Implement the use of student owned devices 3. Professional Development Plan: Describe the professional development strategies you have in place for to ensure LEA staff are prepared to use the technology infrastructure, software programs, and online resources provided: Big Lake Public Schools will enter year II of Q Comp implementation in A shift to job-embedded professional development for technology began to occur in our district with our recent E2 T2 grant, which utilized Media Specialists, online forums, and a train the trainer model to create onsite, sustainable professional development for the life of the grant and beyond to implement the effective use of interactive whiteboards in classrooms. Now, as a requirement of Q Comp, every teacher is required to participate in a weekly professional learning community (PLC), and trained facilitators assist with new technology training. The following initiatives provide examples of this shift: Onsite ongoing training in TSIS Interactive whiteboards, ipads, and other devices in classrooms Development of online courses for staff through PD360, Atomic Learning and Moodle Building level PLCs whose purpose is to provide direction, input and datainformed recommendations for decision-making Utilization of Google Docs for collaboration Teacher on special assignment to provide support for the utilization of technology to enhance and improve student learning Page 3

Evaluation: Explain the evaluation process for your technology plan for , including timeline, roles and responsibilities, and information gathered to assess how the technology plan goals and strategies are being met. Each building will review progress on an annual basis, conduct a needs assessment and formulate revisions for their building. The review will be facilitated by the Technology PLC in each building. Revisions will be reviewed by the a team consisting of the Technology Director, the Director of Teaching, Learning, & School Improvement, Media Specialists and the Technology TOSA. The revised plan will be reviewed by the District Leadership Team 5. Optional Links: Provide links to district strategic planning documents, survey instruments, policies, or other resources that were used to provide data and help prepare the technology plan. 6.
