1 Travel Demand Management & Travel Behavior Change

2 Traffic, congestion, rush hour call it by any name, the costs are the same: lost money, lost time, inconvenience, frustration and unwelcome increases in greenhouse gas emissions. The cause of congestion is simple demand versus capacity; the answer to this problem is challenging. That s where we come in. Strategies that move people As transportation experts, understands the cost that congestion exacts on communities and on the people who live in them. Our Travel Demand Management (TDM) practice designs and executes programs that change travel behavior especially at peak commuting times so people can get where they need to go with less aggravation, less cost and less impact on the environment. TDM is a set of strategies typically applied at worksites that influence travel behavior. It incorporates traditional approaches like ridesharing, bicycling, telework and transit. With recent trends in car sharing, on-demand services and real-time applications, these strategies redistribute commuter travel across a variety of alternatives and away from daily peak periods. Our TDM services reflect current theories about behavioral change and incorporate planning, design, implementation, outreach, branding, marketing and evaluation. s TDM services are: Driven by traveler needs Simple to understand and operate Services TDM program design, planning and evaluation Turnkey program management Worksite and commuter outreach Marketing and promotional campaigns Call/resource center operations Stakeholder coordination Commuter incentive program development Database and program participation management Comprehensive and designed for expansion Tailored to regional transportation policies and priorities Able to produce quantifiable mileage and emissions reductions Safe Routes to School and school pool coordination Cover: Travel Demand Management (TDM) offers a series of programs that helps change travel behaviors, reducing roadway congestion during peak commuting hours. This page: Bus and cycling programs are often key parts of TDM programs. 2 3

3 Our services: Your solutions Travel demands can change depending on the traveler, passengers, trip particulars, season, day of the week and even time of day. Weather, work zones and travel incidents can change roadway capacity. The result can be a complex web of variables that requires expertise to untangle. s certified planners and project managers are well versed in all aspects of TDM. We are a one-stop shop, delivering services that reduce the number of cars on the road, benefit employers and transportation authorities, and provide travelers with reliable alternatives. Available services include: Turnkey program management: We tailor transportation programs to community, employers and commuters needs, providing outreach efforts that influence changes in travel habits. Our behavior change programs include training and discount alliances/affiliations, direct traveler assistance, interactive ride matching, incentives, promotional campaigns and emergency ride home programs. We provide resources to assist in implementing customized worksite commute options programs such as commuter tax benefits, parking management, vanpool formation and on-site amenities. Stakeholder coordination: Our teams coordinate and crosspromote with employers as well as with local and state transportation stakeholders, transit and vanpool service providers, car- and bikeshare programs, transportation management associations, and numerous other transportation services and technologies. TDM marketing support: Our targeted and branded campaigns incorporate a mix of strategies to raise awareness and promote the benefits of changing transportation behaviors. Our marketing efforts include mass media, promotions, events, traditional collateral, explainer videos, web and mobile application development, digital marketing and social media. LEED certification: The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building designation accelerates the adoption of sustainable building and development practices by creating and implementing universally accepted tools and performance measurements. helps companies qualify for the sustainable sites category by implementing qualifying worksite TDM programs. Call/resource center operations: We help states, regions and agencies implement multi-lingual customer services through tollfree hotlines and web-based chat functions. We also work to refocus, consolidate and modernize existing programs. Incentive programs encouraging transportation alternatives such as walking, ride sharing, mass transit and cycling are catching on around the globe. Program planning and evaluation: Without proper planning, evaluation and analysis techniques, and ongoing evaluation, programs will never meet their potential. uses the latest planning, evaluation and analysis techniques to help clients ensure their efforts are operating efficiently and effectively. *Am aliquam quis sed molluptas maion prae. 4 5

One of the largest programs of its kind in the U.K., the program includes more than 40 regional businesses and 14,000 workers. is working across all aspects of the program, including a 3-month participant monitoring survey to assess travel needs and patterns. Planning and Environmental Assessment Study, Ontario, Canada Assessed alternative solutions within a 130-kilometer corridor Administered an origin destination study at four Niagara River crossings Reviewed policy and status with agencies in the study area This phase 1 study included TDM as a key part of a transportation systems and transit planning report for the designated corridor, which stretched between Niagara and the greater Toronto area. The project included interviews with numerous stakeholders and a report that encompassed identifying current practices, strengths, challenges, solutions and recommendations for the area. Recommendations included the need to designate targeted areas, develop broader policy frameworks and implement a regionally coordinated TDM program. Personalized travel planning advice Program management Undertaken for the Land Transport Authority, this pilot program incentivized morning travel behavior shifts by offering free or reduced fare rides on public transport. designed and implemented the program, which focused on flexible work practices as well as facilities and support for employees who chose to walk or cycle to work. Benefits to organizations included reduced property costs and progress toward environmental goals. Club Ride Commuter Services, Nevada, U.S.A. Comprehensive incentive-based commuter program Bilingual outreach staff Award-winning English and Spanish language marketing campaigns Touch screen kiosks and mobile applications that increase commuter reporting This commuter options program includes a 29,000+ commuter ride share database and a 250-employer business listing.
