2 Transfer Opportunities For planning and registration purposes, it s important to know if you are on the University Transfer track or the ASLA track. Please note that both tracks are eligible for financial aid University Transfer and Associate of Science Liberal Arts How are they different? What s right for you? UT You plan to transfer courses to a university, college, or technical college, but you are not interested in obtaining an associate of science degree from Western. You may choose to take any courses which will transfer to your school of choice. If you are interested in attending UW-L, you may apply to UW-L as any other transfer student would apply. ASLA You plan to graduate from Western with an associate of science degree that includes coursework from both Western and UW-La Crosse. You may also receive credit from other colleges and universities (examples: Viterbo and Winona State). You are required to take specific courses, including a minimum of math, including calculus, and science credits at Western. After successfully completing a minimum of eighteen credits at Western with a specific GPA set by UW-L, you will apply to UW-L as a special, non-degree seeking student and take some of your courses at UW-L. (These courses do not guarantee that you will be accepted as a transfer student at UW-L after completing Western s degree.) Western transfer students Amber Patterman & Josh Knoll When registering/considering courses Please note the difference between 100-level and 200-level classes: The first two digits in the catalog number will tell you if the class is a 100- or 200-level course. If the number starts with 10 the course is a 100-level class. If it starts with a 20 the course is a 200-level class. If you have taken a 100-level course, do not take the 200-level course of the same class. You will only get transfer credit toward one of them. For Example Intro to Psychology (100-level course) Introduction to Psychology (200-level course) Test Scores Your test scores help us determine your readiness for courses. Please record your scores below and have this information with you during advising and registration: My Test Scores: ACT ASSET COMPASS English Reading Math (specify type*) *Some math courses require different prerequisites. Example: One math course may require a pre-algebra score while another may require an Algebra, Trigonometry, College Algebra, etc. score. These scores are all different. Please be sure of which scores you have received on these tests. More prerequisite information can be found at:

3 2013 SUMMER/FALL CREDIT SCHEDULE How to Use The 2013 Summer/Fall Degree Class Schedule What s Inside this Class Schedule? Western s 2013 Summer/Fall Degree Class Schedule includes a listing for all degree courses offered this summer and fall at all Western Campus locations. Classes are listed alphabetically by division for the La Crosse Campus, and alphabetically by location for our regional locations. You will also find a separate listing of our online courses. You will also find information on how to apply to Western and how to register for classes. An application and a credit agreement form, which needs to be completed, signed, and returned to our business office when paying your tuition and fees, are also included in the schedule. In addition, this publication provides information on our GOAL program classes. These classes are provided for adult learners who need to brush up on basic education skills. Other courses and services offered through Instructional Support Services, such as GED/HSED and Developmental Studies are also included. How to Read the Course Listing Class Title Classes are listed alphabetically by division, then by class title for the La Crosse Campus. Classes are listed alphabetically by campus, then by class title for each of our regional locations. Class Numbers The class numbers are listed next to the class title. The class numbers are used to register for the class. Catalog/Section Number The catalog/section number is used to identify a course. Mode The mode refers to the way the class is delivered. A key for the modes is listed under each division or campus location in the schedule. The mode definitions are listed below. P = In-person Traditional face to face class, which may require some online work. OL = Online These classes can be taken anywhere at any time of the day. The student is required to use their Western address and have access to a computer with Internet access. There are no face-to-face meeting requirements unless clearly communicated in advance in the class schedule. Students enrolled in an online or blended class for the first time are required to complete a series of online training modules prior to the start of the class. Information about this one-time training will be mailed to students before the class begins. BL = Blended These classes combine traditional face-to-face classroom instruction with some online instruction. Actual class meeting times are reduced and online work is integrated into the course. The student is required to use their Western address and have access to a computer with Internet access in order to fully participate and receive the benefits of the course. Students enrolled in an online or blended class for the first time are required to complete a series of online training modules prior to the start of the class. Information about this one-time training will be mailed to students before the class begins. ITV = Interactive television ITV classes originate at any of our seven locations. Through television cameras and microphones, students are able to participate in classes that are available at more than one location. AC = Accelerated The content of accelerated classes is condensed into a shorter time frame, which requires more work for the student in a shorter amount of time. This is accomplished using specific memory strategies, visualization and suggestion techniques, music, and environmental peripherals to elicit the improved learning results. It is not a faster way to receive a degree, just a different approach. L = Open lab open lab classes are for individuals who are self-motivated and do not require the structure of a face-to-face classroom experience. The math lab has faculty available to help students taking math courses on a self-study basis. Visit for more information. The electronics open lab coursework involves flexibly scheduled lab activities and a choice of either structured, face-to-face classroom lectures, or DVD lecture recordings. The electronics lab opens at 8:05 a.m. five days a week. The lab is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a total of 40 available hours per week of open lab time with individualized instructor support. Visit edu/circuit for more information. 1

4 2013 SUMMER/FALL CREDIT SCHEDULE How to Use The 2013 Summer/Fall Degree Class Schedule Mode continued IB = ITV/Blended These classes combine ITV and blended learning components. The ITV classes may originate from any one of our seven locations and students participate through the use of television cameras and microphones in the classroom. The blended component of the classes includes online work that is integrated into the ITV format. Actual class meeting times may be reduced. Students are required to use their Western addresses and have access to a computer with Internet access in order to fully participate and receive the benefits of the course. Start/End Dates, Days, and Time The start and end dates indicate the first and last day of the class. Days of the week are abbreviated using the following key. M = Monday T = Tuesday W = Wednesday TH = Thursday F = Friday SA = Saturday Time of class is also indicated in the schedule. The class times for online, open lab, and ITV classes are designated as such. Please note that some classes have multiple days and/or times, and students are expected to attend ALL sessions. Times and locations of classes are subject to change. Room Locations The La Crosse Campus room locations are designated by a letter that represents the building and a number that represents the room location, e.g. C-134 is Coleman Center room 134. The key for building designations is listed below. A = Administrative Center ATC = Automotive Technologies Center B = Business Education Center C = Coleman Center CCE = Center for Childhood Education D = Diesel Center G = Western Wisconsin Job Center HSC = Health Science Center K = Kumm Center P = Physical Plant R = Academic Resource Center T = Applied Technologies Center W = Western Residence Hall Regional location class locations are designated by the campus location, clinical locations are indicated as clinical, and online courses are designated as online.
