2 Projected demographics, emerging economic impera3ves, and increasingly turbulent poli3cal and legal challenges have converged to an extent that inclusion and diversity will be among the most cri3cal issues facing higher educa3on in the twenty- first century (Duderstadt 2000; Hurtado and Dey 1997; Tierney 1999).

3 A.P.L.U. Commission on Access, Diversity & Excellence (CADE) The A٠۰P٠۰L٠۰U Commission on Access, Diversity and Excellence (CADE) shall serve as a na%onal ac%on forum for addressing relevant diversity and social change issues impac%ng learning, discovery, and engagement at American colleges and universi%es. ² Broadening access and opportunity in the academic community. ² U%lizing diversity to expand the range and quality of the undergraduate experience. ² Achieving excellence and enhancing diversity within student and faculty popula%ons. ² Crea%ng partnerships between public universi%es and their communi%es to bring about beneficial social change.

5 Associa%on of American Colleges and University s (AAC&U) Defini%on Inclusive Excellence (IE) means that diversity is a key component of a comprehensive strategy for achieving ins%tu%onal excellence which includes, but is not limited to, the academic excellence of all students in abendance and concerted efforts to educate all students to succeed in a diverse society and equip them with sophis%cated intercultural skills.

6 Inclusive Excellence (IE) re- envisions both quality and diversity excellence is %ed to diversity Goes beyond numbers of students or number of programs as end goals. Eliminates islands of innova%on and abempts to create a collabora%ve, cohesive strategy to bring efforts together to address ins%tu%onal goals

7 UNM Defini%on of IE Inclusive Excellence requires a healthy and inclusive campus climate and refers to the processes by which we leverage diversity as our strength to enhance our understanding and connec%ons with diverse communi%es, ensure the success of all of our students and advance the academic enterprise.
