2 The University of La Verne is a non-sectarian, private comprehensive doctoral University founded in Serving over 8,000 students in four colleges across ten regional campuses in Southern California. La Verne is a Hispanic Serving Institution with a mission focusing on Values Orientation, Community & Diversity, Life-long Learning, and Community Service.

3 What is La Verne doing? The La Verne Experience: Under the leadership of our new president, Dr. Devorah Lieberman, we are launching The La Verne Experience, a holistic educational approach that incorporates La Verne s traditions and values, integrates curricular, co-curricular, and community engagement activities, and promotes best practices in higher education. The focus of The La Verne Experience is Integration through Learning Communities, stressing Theory-to-Practice while incorporating Experiential Learning and providing opportunities for active Reflection on learning outcomes.

4 Who is involved at La Verne? The La Verne Experience is being shaped by a faculty-led steering committee with subcommittees for: * Traditional-Age Undergraduates * Adult Learners * Graduate and Professional Students * Co-curricular Activities * Community Engagement in coordination with the Provost & Dean s Council with the Faculty Senate and Board of Trustees.

5 What Outcomes are Expected? The La Verne Experience will help us articulate clear Learning Outcomes shared across the four Colleges and programs for Traditional Age Undergraduates, Adult Learners, and Graduate and Professional programs; it will help us become intentional in our strategic planning, resource allocation, and assessment strategies. In addition, it will help engage faculty with and help La Verne participate in the national dialogue on best practices.

8 La Verne Concerns with DQP? 1. The Spiderweb visual undermines integration axis pull in different directions. 2. Ambiguity needs something akin to AAC&U Leap Learning Outcomes rubrics. 3. Separation between intellectual skills and applied learning 4. Civic learning vs. Community Engagement
