Tasks include curriculum revisions for all OSS courses, scheduling OSS courses, evaluation of transfer credits from other schools, and graduation evaluations. Director of Student Services at USU Uintah Basin Campus ( ) Coordinated all students services including registration, retention, student activities, course scheduling, and I was part of the management team. I switched to full-time teaching again because of the opportunity to become the state OSS coordinator. I also taught OSS courses. Assistant Director for USU Uintah Basin Campus ( ) I assisted the Executive Director in all areas of activities. I was the building project director for building the new Student Center and directly involved in getting the 11 million dollars for the building. I became the Director of Student Services director when the administrative model changed because of growth. I also taught OSS courses. Uintah Basin Applied Technology College Course taught include: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Basic Computer Skills, Programming, Keyboarding, Accounting, and Accounting II. USU Regional Campuses New Program Award 2008 This award is given to an individual who demonstrates excellence in new programs for regional campuses. I was honored for my development of the Office Systems Support program statewide. Teacher of the Year award for USU Uintah Basin, 2006 This award is given to one individual each year selected from the entire faculty in the Uintah Basin. Taggart-Ballard Award of Excellence, 2004 This award is given to an individual who shows exemplary service for Utah State University in Regional Campuses. I was honored for being instrumental in helping
5 D e n n i s R G a r n e r P a g e 5 raise 11 million dollars for the new Student Center in Roosevelt. All of the money was from grants and loans from the Uintah Basin. Top 5% of ALL USU teachers evaluation scores (four years) I appeared in this top-tier evaluation list until it was discontinued. RCDE Teaching and Learning Club member for 2 years. Each month the faculty for the Regional Campuses meets to discuss trends, issues, and research about effective teaching. Topics have included: impact of immediacy for feedback to students; strategies for distance students to be engaged in the classroom; assessing student learning and publishing findings; theoretical eclecticism in the college classroom. Lions Club Service Award, Lions Club President, 1995 Teaching-Related Experience NBEA Computer Workshop Coordinator 2009-current Coordinated, identified topics, selected presenters, and scheduled workshops, and worked with Smart Computers for rental of computers. At the convention I coordinate all the computer workshops including coordinators and assistants. National NBEA Technology Task Force 2009-present Along with five other members throughout the United States, this committee helps identify how NBEA teachers can connect with each other in training and experiences. I was involved with the creation of NBEA-Connect which is a social network connecting NBEA teachers with training throughout the year. NBEA National Standards Committee I served on the national task for the 4th edition of the National Standards for Business Education publication in February My responsibility was to chair the technology section of the standards. Published Fall, Garner and Wheeler Research Research projects: Grant for $30,000. Our company was selected to evaluate reading/english software in elementary schools in six cities throughout Utah (Roosevelt, Moab, Greenriver, Manila, Hunnigton, and Neola). Our responsibility was to gather the pre and post test data, do the statistical evaluation to determine the outcomes of the grant for evaluating computer reading/vocabulary software.
6 D e n n i s R G a r n e r P a g e 6 Grant for $25,000. Our company was selected to do a follow-up evaluation of the above mentioned grant. Public Television Grant for Computer Application Teaching I was part of the team with the Utah State Office of Education,, and KUED Channel 7 TV for computer training on public TV. I was the instructor of the live TV show that taught word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software from 11:00-11:55 every weekday. At the high point of the show, we had over 90,000 people watching the program. I taught the live class for five years and when the grant finished KUED showed reruns for three more years. Executive Director, Producer, and Choreographer Stagelight Performing Company A singing/dancing group that performed throughout Utah and the Western United States doing approximately 30 shows a year.
