1 DEXTERITY HOME: PATIENT MONITORING WITH MEDICAL ALERT Greeshma K 1,Nithya N 2,Shya K 3,Sobika G 4,Sujith P.S 5 AHALIA SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY Abstract In this hectic world, everyone will be busy with their own lifestyle. Which adversely affects the living environment of elderly as well as disabled people. Nowadays the rapid growing technological advancements are in our finger tips. Thus to enhance the life style of elderly people is become a crucial issue. Our proposed system mainly intended to make easier lifestyle provide a supporting system for elderly disabled especially those who live alone. This system ensures the social security a better living environment by providing a comprehensive system which includes both health care monitoring as well as providing medical alert. The implementation design of this work is carried out by accelerometer which helps the switching of electrical appliances. It monitors the physiological parameters such as body temperature, heart beat etc. In addition to this it provides a medical reminder system.it assures the safe secure life style of the individual those have unstable health condition. Our work is a concomitant of both home automation medical alert system. Key words:- Accelerometer, medical alert, GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) I. INTRODUCTION In world wide 378 million people who was aged 60 year or more in 1980 expected 2billion elders people in 2050 as shown in following figure. By increasing the population simultaneously decreases the family members who can give care make facilities for them, which make a great challenge of living independently for elderly people[5]. If they prefer to live alone rather than with an assistant, they need a continuous assessment on their health condition as well as edical alert at proper time intervals they also needs to control the necessary home appliances wirelessly. In this proposal we designs a smart home for those elderly as well as physically hicapped people. By using sensors the system monitors the detection of any abnormality it immediately sends an SMS to care takers doctor through GSM it will helps to provide immediate action. II. THEORITICAL BACKGROUND Home automation is a system which facilitates amiable lifestyle for disabled people also provide a comfortable environment. We can automate the household appliances with the help of a centrally controlled sensor placed in our head. Also our work smart dexterity home acts as a bridge to communicate the elderly people with their care givers or external world with the helpof GSM network. Along with home automation, the medical alert is anew system. Thus the system assuage the need of external care taker.it assures the safe secure life style of the individual those have persons body temperature heart beat, by 1

2 unstable health condition. The smart dexterity home is divided into three subsystems. at the time that we want. For example, if a patient takes medicine in a particular time continuously we can provide a reminder for them. It may be the type of medicine, the time that they have taken etc. In this system we must ensures the continuous power supply in order to maintain the exact timing of the system. Thus needs a battery backup to provide power failure problems. III. MATERIALS AND METHODS are patient monitoring system, controlling system, edical alert system. As the name indicates the patient monitoring system is used to monitor the patient. Which correlates the activities of different sensors. In controlling section, which is the unit associated withdevice control. We can control the electrical device with the help of accelerometer sensor which is placed in head. The third subsystem ismedical alert system. Which helps to provide medical announcement or can be used as a medical reminder subsystem. This peculiarity helps our work to be smart flawless. It is a simple system comprised of microcontroller its associated timer, a voice IC. By using this we can provide medical alert as the time that we set up earlier. For the time calculation the timer associated with the controller can be used. And the pre recorded voice can be play Patient System The patient system or the transmitter section takes different type of signals from the sensor output. We can incorporate various types of sensors like temperature sensor,heart beat sensor, accelerometer,respiratory rate sensor, movement sensor etc. to measure monitor the vital signs biomedical signal of the patient. This proposed system includes temperature sensor to measure the body temperature, heart beat sensor to monitor the pulse rate a movement sensor which detects the movements of he patient. The readings from temperature sensor heart beat sensor are continuously monitored displayed on the LCD display. If the temperature heart beat exceeds a particular value greater than the normal value or decreases from a particular value the controller detects an abnormality sends a DANGER message to thedoctor or care taker who are far away from the home, by using agsm modem. This will provide immediate care to the patient with in no time.. The movement sensor can be attached to the head or hs of the patient. It will detect the 2

3 movements of patient like moving front, moving back, moving left, moving right etc produce corresponding voltage values. The readings from the movement sensor output is send to the receiver or controlling section via ZigBee wireless transmission protocol to control the home appliances. Block diagram appliances such as fan,light,air conditioning etc Medical Alert System Medical alert system is mainly used to provide medicine remainder at particular time interval with the help of a voice IC. Microcontroller:Which is the Main part of this work. Microcontroller controls the wholes activities of the system. GSM: It is a stard which describes the protocol for the digital cellular networks used by second generation mobile phones. ZigBee:It is a protocol used to create personal area networks with small, low power digital radio frequency. Accelerometer: Used to measure proper acceleration of a moving body by using tilt. Temperature sensor: It is a sensor which measure the amount of heat energy which is generated by a system or object allowing us to detect any physical change to that temperature producing either an analogue or digital output. Controlling Section Controlling sections or receiver sections receives the head movement sensor output through the receiver zigbee module. According to the voltage readings the controller switches the relays connected to its output ports. The relays act as an electromagnetic switches are used to control the switching of necessary home 3

DISCUSSION In this paper we introduces a system which interconnects the home automation patient monitoring with a medical remainder system.we implemented a 3 dimension head movement sensor for good control of electrical home appliances along with continuous monitoring of the health conditions of the patient. If any abnormality in the vital signs of the patient the system notifies the doctor or caretaker provides immediate service. The proposed system also rovides a medical reminder system in a timely manner which reminds the patient about which medicine should be taken in a particular time.
