This course introduces younger students to a variety of multimedia topics associated with the Information and Communications (ICT) industry. They will have an opportunity to use the latest in computing hardware and software in a modern and attractive computing laboratory environment. Students participate in an exciting experience that combines several aspects of multimedia including manipulating text, capturing and manipulating images, as well as making the resulting presentations available for others to view. WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS WEAR? Students should wear smart and comfortable clothing. Jandals are not allowed. The following combinations of NZQA Unit Standards and NACCQ (National Advisory Committe on Computing Qualifications) modules, presented by topic area, are recommended for secondary school students wishing to pursue a career in Information and Communications (ICT). 4 Computer Hardware The physical part of a computer, including the digital circuitry. Most computer hardware is not seen by normal users. It is in embedded systems in automobiles, microwave ovens, electrocardiograph machines, compact disc players and other devices. Electronics A branch of physics that deals with the use of systems that operates by controlling the flow of electrons in semiconductors.
