1 Dudley and Walsall Mental Health hip NHS Trust Staff Survey 2008/09 Introduction The NHS staff survey is carried out annually and is used to measure staff perception of their employment. The results of the survey are used to assess the Trust s compliance with core standards and priorities as part of the Annual Health Check. The results of the findings were presented to Trust by Hannah Murden from Quality Health in July The full report has been posted on the Trust s intranet site and a brief summary of the key points included in the Team Brief. Staff side have been consulted over the action plan which is being cascaded and implemented throughout the organisation. 3 Support to do a good job 45% not received any computer skills training 56% had not received training on giving information about diagnosis, medication, side effects, etc. 69% felt that their manager could be counted on to help with a difficult task Staff receiving clear feedback on their work is below the 54% of staff leaving their review felt their work was valued by the Trust to incorporate assessment of skills level as part of PDPs All relevant staff to receive appropriate level of training to enable effective communication with patients and their carers to communicate to staff when they have done well in their tasks where this is justified Continue to provide appraisal skills training for managers/supervisors with emphasis on giving clear and qualitative feedback. Develop a culture which says thank you for a job well done. Trust Vision and Values to be widely promoted MEXT December 2009 Communication and Involvement Errors, near misses and incidents Only 27% of staff felt involved in important decisions % of staff reporting errors, near misses and incidents is less that the Staff to be informed and involved in service modernisation, changes to patient focus and to be involved in the implementation of the recommendations from the patient survey Trust policies on handling errors, near misses and incidents are readily available and communicated to all staff. Staff are given feedback on results of incidents and the lessons to be learnt from them Establish annual reward scheme to recognise contribution to the service/individual achievements Staff in all areas of the Trust are engaged and feel able to contribute to service reviews and planning.
