3 Project Scope Development and demonstration of a multi-layered open system architecture and functionality that exploits the information gathered at the mobile terminals in order to provide enhanced services and applications in the B3G networks. 9 Innovation Demonstration of an agent embedded in a generic terminal that can be widely distributed at low cost on a significant fraction of the device population. The resulting innovation could be used for: Improving the wireless planning methods Providing information for automatic network configuration Improving the End-to-End quality of service An innovative method for ubiquitous terminal assisted positioning applicable to various network segments (i.e. UMTS, GSM, GPRS, WLAN), introducing enhancements to existing standards, and targeting future terminal functionalities with multinetwork operation in a B3G environment. Definition of a new open architecture for accessing and managing the location dependent information available via the terminal. Page 9
