2 02 Why Energy Efficiency? Why is energy efficiency so important? All over the world businesses are wising up to energy efficiency. Whether it is organisations embracing energy efficient technologies or companies designing, manufacturing and installing the technologies, the world is learning the lesson of adopting clean, green technology. Energy efficiency is the cheapest of all ways to generate electrical capacity Analysis of the 11 IEA member countries for which suitable data are available, indicates that between 1974 and 2010, energy efficiency was the largest energy resource. Over this period, energy efficiency helped limit the growth in energy consumption to just 20% compared to 1974 levels. Without energy efficiency improvements, energy consumption would have increased by 93% - Energy Efficiency Market Report, 2013, IEA. That is why energy efficiency is so important. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) investment in key energy efficiency markets worldwide totalled up to USD 300 billion in IEA World Energy Outlook 2012, OECD/IEA, Paris. And according to the UK Government, in 2011 the energy efficiency industry in the UK was worth 17.6 Billion and 136,000 jobs growing at a projected 5% per annum until So, what drives the energy efficiency market? There are three key drivers for the energy efficiency market; energy prices, government policy, and consumer preference. Energy prices are rising because of the supply of energy failing to keep up with the rising demand. This means that improved profits can be achieved by reducing energy bills. According to the Carbon Trust, Better Business Guide to Energy, 2013 A 20% cut in energy costs represents the same bottom line benefit as a 5% increase in sales in many businesses. Many energy efficiency solutions offer fantastic returns on investment and rapid paybacks, and when offered with financial support to spread cost, many projects offer the benefits of being cash flow positive from the outset. Government policy has been driving the energy efficiency sector for some time, using tax breaks, subsidies and other incentives to climate change levies and carbon reduction targets for many energy intensive users. The IEA has highlighted investment in energy efficient technology and incentives across all major continents is expected to continue to grow through to 2020, thanks in part, to the Kyoto treaty. The Kyoto treaty is a legally binding agreement under which industrialised countries will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases by 5.2% compared to the year 1990 (but note that, compared to the emissions levels that would be expected by 2010 without the Protocol, this target represents a 29% cut). Industry Transport Power generation Consumer power also cannot be underestimated either. Many large PLC companies are looking at ways to reduce their own carbon footprints because of global consumer pressure. Corporate sustainability is a business approach that creates long-term consumer and employee value by creating a green strategy aimed towards the natural environment and taking into consideration every dimension of how a business operates in the social, cultural, and economic environment. Sustainability can increase revenue, reduce energy expenses, reduce waste expenses, reduce materials, increase employee productivity, attract talent and reduce strategic and operational risks. Furthermore this emphasis is extended outside of the immediate organisation to the supply chain to manufacturers and producers of raw materials and OEM products. Needless to say, energy efficiency is extremely important and impacts everyone, it is now a hugely critical area for business focus and as an industry in its own right, it is here and here to stay. 4 04 Products The Suresense product portfolio consists of two high performance energy efficient technologies, Integra and Eluma. Integra is an energy efficient soft-start motor controller for electric motors and Eluma is an intelligent energy efficient lighting technology. Both technologies offer fantastic returns on investment and rapid payback, whilst helping businesses to do the right thing environmentally, truly win-win. Why these technologies? Electric motors convert electrical power into mechanical power within a motor driven system. The vast majority of the electricity is consumed by the electric motor itself. AC Motors have no innate intelligence, once powered they will continue to run at a fixed speed whether they are connected to anything (load) or not. Other devices are required to control the motor. There are principally three types of control device that can be used depending on the application of the motor. Where the application requires a variable voltage start and a variable speed, a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD, VSD, inverter etc) should be used. Where the application is fixed speed a soft starter should be used and where the application is fixed speed with a low or variable load, Integra should be the preferred choice. There are approximately 2 Billion motors in the world with 50 Million new motors being sold each year. These motors account for 45% of all energy used in the world and 65% of all energy used in Industry, 90% of these motors are fixed speed applications where the motors are typically oversized by the manufacturers and specifiers leading to the opportunity where Integra can save energy costs as well as extending the life of the motor. The majority of electric motors in use draw less than 0.75 kw of power in a variety of small applications, mostly in the residential and commercial sectors, however these account for less than 9% of all electric motor power consumption. End users now spend $565B per year on electricity used on these motors and by 2030 that is expected to rise to almost $900B. Lighting is the second highest user of electricity worldwide. However, due to the amount of light wasted, it has become the low hanging fruit in any energy reduction programme. Through the use of low energy technologies such as LED and intelligent control systems, it is often easy to reduce the energy used and therefore the cost, typically by 75%. Suresense Technologies combines British engineering and world class support to create a perfect energy efficient technology partner for any business looking to enter or expand their presence in the energy efficiency sector. Our technology is proven all over the world to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions. Our dedication to customer service and to quality makes Suresense Technologies the ideal partner for businesses. DID YOU KNOW? 2/3rds of all energy used in the world is used by motors and lighting.

6 06 What is Integra? Integra is one of the finest soft-starters in the world. It has an extensive array of adjustable features that allow you to start even the most awkward load with ease. The Integra has three key value propositions namely soft-start, controlled stop and energy saving. Features and Benefits of Integra: 1. The soft start function is, in effect, an electronic clutch providing gradual uptake of power and smooth step-less acceleration. This puts less stress on auxiliary parts such as belts, gears, bearings etc The benefits of this are: Significantly increased life of contactors & drive train components Prevention of dips & peak demand penalties in supply when starting larger motors Increase in productivity through increased uptime and lower energy costs per output 2. The controlled stop function is the soft-start feature in reverse. This is especially useful for pumping applications, which are particularly vulnerable to damage from hydraulic shock caused by fluid surge. Integra reduces sudden changes in flow by controlling the acceleration torque of the pump, extending the time to produce 100% flow, thus minimising the damaging effects of water hammer. The benefits of this are: An effective solution to minimise water hammer Reduce the probability of damage to pipe systems Provide safe and cost effective plug braking 3. The energy saving function, simply put, is the brain of the motor. Telling the motor when to use energy and when to preserve it. Due to variable duty cycles, many motors run at less than 50% of their capacity for much of their duty cycle. It is well known that motors are highly inefficient when under low loads. The integra dynamically recognises these periods of low loads and reduces the power consumed automatically. The benefits of this function are: DID YOU KNOW? Integra will outperform a VSD or Soft starter on most fixed speed/variable load applications and give a stronger ROI and quicker paybacks The motors dynamically resize themselves to match the load and only consume the energy that is needed Motors switch off automatically when not needed An average of 15% in energy consumption is saved
7 07 The intelligent choice for motor control With 90% of all motors being fixedspeed and generally being oversized for their application there are an absolute plethora of applications where Integra can be used for its control capability and energy saving. Below emphasises where you are very likely to find applications where Integra will excel. However certain industries are so heavily automated that there will be an abundance of opportunity to install Integra. Typical industries: Mining Plastics Automotive General manufacturing Mills Paper/Pulp/Packaging Below illustrates the applications where Integra energy saving features can excel due to the nature of loading and duty cycles. Certain industries are so heavily automated that there will be an abundance of opportunity for Integra.

The most likely partners interested in Eluma are lighting companies, electrical engineers, energy advisors, maintenance companies and renewable energy installers. Industries and Applications Warehousing, distribution, storage and aircraft facilities These facilities often tend to have extensive operating hours giving higher levels of opportunity to save energy, they also tend to be relatively low in numbers of staff and therefore quite often have parts of the facility that are un-populated for periods of time. These areas also require minimum light levels ranging from lux in an aisle to 1000 in production areas. In non-chilled warehouses lighting can represent over 90% of the total energy used and therefore the opportunity to reduce the lighting bill by an average of 75% can have an enormously positive effect on the businesses cost and profits. Manufacturing, repair, assembly and shipyard facilities It is imperative that manufacturing facilities are adequately lit. Through the lighting design process and the modular approach of scaling the Eluma light output, the Eluma will always give even light to the manufacturing area, improve work conditions, productivity and reduce overall overheads through lower lighting costs.
