ECHO360 PERSONAL CAPTURE (PCAP) Echo360 Personal Capture (PCAP) is the screen capture component of theecho360 system used by UOW for lecture recording. It allows users to create lecture recordings from their computers and upload them to ECHO360, accessible by students via the relevant subject Moodle page. PCAP provides video screen capturing which can be supplemented with video and audio from an attached webcam and microphone. After content is recorded, simple edits can be made prior to publishing to the Echo360 server. Once published to theecho360 server, content can be made available to Moodle sites via the Echo360 block (EchoCenter). Personal Capture (PCAP) can record whatever is on your computer screen (such as PowerPoint slides, demonstrations, websites), your voice and the video from your web-cam (if desired). The quick and easy-to-use software allows you to playback your recordings, perform some minor editing and publish to the EchoSystem. Free for install on individual staff computers. PCAP can be downloaded onto a staff computers by selecting it from Run Advertised Programs in Control Panel. 6 ADOBE PRESENTER Adobe Presenter was designed to enable PowerPoint users to easily generate Flash-based elearning courses, by adding voiceover to slides, and syncing the audio to the slide animations. It also has features for importing or capturing video using a webcam, as well as using the built-in Quizzes to include graded quizzes or surveys in your final project. There are two things that stand out in Adobe Presenter in the way of strengths, when comparing it to Adobe Captivate, namely the sleek, user-friendly navigation user interface (UI) in the final project; and the way it natively works with PowerPoint files, this is because Adobe Presenter works right from within PowerPoint. Features/Benefits: Version 11 publishes to HTML5 Mobile responsive Pinch and zoom content Can package SWF and HTML5 publication. This shows SWF on the desktop and HTML5 on a mobile device Drag and drop quiz feature Import existing quizzes Scenario based learning templates available Add survey questions to presentations Embed browser interface within the course Generate a search pane within the content Requires installation, not web based Examples Introduction videos Helping students to prepare for lab classes by recording a screencast that summarises key points about the session Providing resources that complement lecture material Pre-labs and Pre-Workshops formative assessments

ARTICULATE STORYLINE Articulate Storyline is what is called rapid e-learning development software. It is widely used for development of online interactive multimedia content. Storyline can build anything from a simple screen capture and PowerPoint with a voice over and quizzes to complex branched scenarios, animations and customised simulations. Storyline interface resembles PowerPoint quite a bit, so it looks familiar to most who use Microsoft Office products. You can import your PowerPoint slides, video, audio and photographs into the Storyline or create objects like text, basics shapes and record audio in Storyline directly. The software can be as simple or as complex as the developer s skills. Storyline has a large online community of e-learning professionals who share templates and examples of their work and are able to help with problems and questions when you develop your e- learning modules. The Storyline output is a SCORM package that can be either published as a web page or uploaded onto Moodle or other learning management system. If uploaded to Moodle, student quiz results or completion of the module can be tracked. Storyline also has a mobile application, which optimises how the modules are displayed on mobile devices. If educator chooses to allow students to download the modules onto their mobile device, the modules will work offline, but tracking will be disabled. $1846 Features/Benefits Has many options for screen recordings, including simulation mode recording. Content can be imported to Storyline, including videos, audio, photos, PowerPoint slides. Audio can be recorded and edited (basic edits only) in Storyline directly. Other features include sliders, buttons, callouts, zoom, object animated path and slide transition (similar to PowerPoint). Interactive content can be created, including surveys, quizzes (including timed quizzes and quiz bank), animations, simulated online scenarios with alternative branched pathways. Content can be built in Storyline directly; tool bar is similar to the PowerPoint. Virtual characters can be added from a built-in collection or extra character pack can be purchased with the product. Advanced features include separate states for characters and objects, triggers and variables that can be used to produce animations, branching or to customise content (eg. address student by his/her name). Java script can also be used to build more advanced features, if necessary. Content can be published onto Moodle as a SCORM package or be published as a website. Students performance on quizzes or module completion can be tracked in Moodle. Mobile application optimises display of content on mobile devices (eg ipads). Online e-learning community of practice forum provides support and shares templates & examples of work. Upgrade can be purchased in advance at a discount. Only operates on Windows, if Mac is used for development, Parallels or similar virtual PC software is required. Training is advised for using more advanced features, as use of this features is not intuitive Ongoing use of software is required to maintain advanced skills (like with everything else J)

Examples Online learning, including interactive online lectures Pre-lecture content delivery to prepare for flipped classroom Pre-labs with interactive content and/or formative or summative quiz Post-lecture quiz or revision activity Practice exam guide Online simulations Some examples of content developed in Storyline can be found here: This is an example of a module produced using Storyline by Dr Tracey Kuit, Dr Michelle Moscova, Dr Teresa Treweek and Dr Karen Fildes. It explains molecular biology and clinical signs of sickle cell anaemia: If you would like more information or examples of what can be done and how to do it, please contact Dr Michelle Moscova (moscova@uow.edu.au).

SMART SPARROW Smart Sparrow is a cloud-based software platform that lets you create your own adaptive lessons. There are three levels of adaptivity that have been built into the Smart Sparrow platform in order to empower teachers Adaptive Feedback based on what the student does and knows, Adaptive Pathways that offer varying sequences of content to each student, and the ability for an instructor to Adapt their Teaching change the content based on an analysis of how their students learn. Smart Sparrow lets educators exert Pedagogical Ownership over their adaptive courseware. This means: Being able to develop and deliver the content to learners Being able to reflect on the effectiveness of that content and Being able to further adapt content to the specific needs of their students Use powerful and real-time analytics to understand student learning behaviour. Improve and adapt lessons based on common mistakes and misconceptions. Academic access is free-of-charge Student access to the platform starts at $15 per unique student p/a (license is platform wide, not licensed per lesson) Features/Benefits An intuitive authoring tool for adaptive content Works in any modern web browser Enjoy WYSIWYG and drag and drop Save time with built-in templates Easily define personalised learning paths Author rules for intelligent feedback Collaborate in real-time, online Embed Rich Simulations Quickly import rich simulations (Flash, or HTML5) into your adaptive lessons and author tasks that require your students to interact with them the epitome of learning by doing. The platform monitors students interactions with the sim, allowing you to tailor the feedback and activity flow to your students needs, all in a simple and intuitive interface. Make it smart, make it adaptive Intelligent Feedback and Dynamic Learning Paths enable you to set the rules that drive the intelligence behind the scenes. Create adaptive learning paths that dynamically change according to your students performance, using an intuitive and easy to use authoring tool that doesn t require programming, and is already used by hundreds of teachers like you.

Seamless online collaboration Work with developers across the hall, or across the globe. Smart Sparrow is the ideal collaboration tool between subject matter experts, instructional designers and developers. With a real-time collaborative authoring environment, work that used to take weeks, now takes hours. Start teaching quickly and easily Once your lesson is ready to go live, deploy it in one of the following ways: Into your LMS students will get a single sign on experience, and grades will be tracked in the LMS gradebook Directly from Smart Sparrow you can manage enrolments and invite your students to your lesson without the need for an LMS As a public lesson allow anyone with the lesson s URL to access it. You can even embed the lesson in any web page (like embedding a YouTube video) Integrate with your Learning Management System Easily add Smart Sparrow lessons to your LMS course pages. Students experience single sign-on, meaning they only log in once. Grades are automatically reported back to the LMS gradebook. Teachers experience single sign-on to directly access the Smart Sparrow workspace and lesson authoring tool via the LMS. Uses global standards for LMS integration (LTI). Knowledge AnalyticsTM Learn what your students know. Without understanding how students interact with content, online learning is a black box. Smart Sparrow s Knowledge Analytics TM gives teachers insight into their students minds: what they re learning and how, what s not working and why. Access key data effortlessly, using our drill-down dashboard to pinpoint problem areas and difficult concepts. These insights empower teachers to continuously improve their teaching approach by adapting to your students learning needs. Cloud-based: requires Internet connectivity Adaptive lessons are hosted in Smart Sparrow platform, not nested in LMS Examples
