It is the largest of 17 Hospital and Health in the Queensland Public Health system. It covers an area of 4157 square kilometres and serves a population approaching 900,000 people. Metro North HHS is unique in its composition in that two of its five hospitals are tertiary facilities that provide statewide super specialty services such as Heart and Lung Transplantation, Burns, and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). Metro North HHS also comprises a variety of residential facilities, Oral Health and a fully integrated Mental Health Service including both community and hospital based care. Purpose The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced nursing management for people with acute mental illness who have complex needs with a focus on providing clinical care and therapeutic interventions within a recovery framework. Your key responsibilities Provide safe, competent nursing care which is based on identified consumer outcomes. Provide advanced recovery focused mental health nursing interventions within a multidisciplinary team. Provide care co-ordination, clinical review and risk management planning for consumers. Work collaboratively with consumers, their family members/carers, community based services and members of the mental health services teams in achieving identified consumer outcomes. As delegated by the Nurse Unit Manager, accept the role of Shift Co-ordinator and meet the responsibilities associated with the role including, but not limited to. Co-ordination of clinical care for the shift. Allocation of activities commensurate with the individual staff member s abilities and role statements, changing conditions and workloads. Documents, reports and initially manages any adverse occurrences. Oversight of routine shift duties and safety checks for the shift. Oversight of shift handover. /provide assistance to colleagues. Seeks advice and assistance as required. Utilise well developed clinical knowledge to provide leadership and expertise in the management of complex clinical problem solving with staff to ensure high quality standards of clinical practice. Maintain and update knowledge of relevant legislation (specifically, the Mental Health Act 2000) standards, and state and national plans. Appointment as, or working towards appointment as, an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner, including participation in regular clinical supervision. Facilitate optimal communication and effective working relationships between staff, clinical service units, multidisciplinary teams, relevant health professionals, and government and nongovernment organisations. Ensure comprehensive, accurate and concise clinical records are maintained including entries in clinical files, accurate completion of Mental Health Act 2000 documentation and entry into information management systems including, but not limited to, Hospital Based Client Information System (HBCIS), TrendCare and Consumer Integrated Mental Health Application (CIMHA). Ensure continuity of care is maintained through effective clinical handover of patient care at all points. Contribute to service delivery activities to continuously improve the quality of service and to minimise risk within the unit. Maintain professional accountabilities through participating in activities such as service area and discipline specific meetings, data collection requirements, performance appraisal and development and clinical supervision. Ensure practice of self and others is in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position. Accountable for the application of contemporary human resource management principles to ensure that the working environment meets legislative standards and Queensland Health policy, including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and antidiscrimination policies.

3 Qualifications/Professional registration/other requirements Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (part of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing services prior to the commencement of duty. Credentialing with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses is also highly desirable. Appointment, or have the ability to readily obtain appointment, as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner under the Mental Health Act Ability to operate a C class motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be produced prior to commencement of duties. Active participation in Clinical Supervision. Scope of Nursing Practice for further information, visit The successful completion of, or the ability to complete, the Queensland Health sponsored Aggressive Behaviour Management Course on appointment is mandatory. Proof of Hepatitis B immunisation status is required prior to the commencement of duty. All staff are appointed to the Metro North Mental Health Redcliffe Caboolture Service. Participation in integration is mandatory and staff may be required to work across practice settings and/or participate in shift work providing extended services. Metro North Mental Health Redcliffe Caboolture clinical staff are employed for the entire service and as such have the opportunity to work within all clinical areas. To assist this process, six-monthly clinical rotations occur within the service to provide clinical staff with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills across the care continuum. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with consumers, family members/carers, community organisations and other team members, demonstrating high level communication skills, flexibility and a co-operative approach. Understanding of, and commitment to, an integrated model of mental health care. Demonstrated understanding of the principles, processes and environments that support recovery. Demonstrated experience in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities. Metro North Mental Health The Metro North Mental Health employ over 800 staff and have an annual budget in excess of $100 million. Mental Health are located at Royal Brisbane & Women s Hospital (RBWH), The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) and Caboolture and Redcliffe Hospitals with community based services at Fortitude Valley, Herston, Rosemount, Aspley, Chermside, Pine Rivers, Nundah, Caboolture and Redcliffe with outreach services to Kilcoy.

4 The Mental Health provide services across the age of spectrum from perinatal, child and adolescent, adult to older persons and a range of specialist services including consultation liaison, forensic, addiction, eating disorders and community mental health including an inner city homeless team. Inpatient beds across the service include 164 acute inpatient beds (with 75 beds RBWH, 60 beds TPCH, and 44 beds at Caboolture), a 12 bed Adolescent Unit at RBWH, 20 Secure Mental Health beds at TPCH and 23 Secure Mental Health beds at Caboolture, 60 Community Care beds at Rosemount, Pine Rivers and Redcliffe, 24 long stay psycho-geriatric beds at Eventide, Sandgate and Redcliffe, and 20 state-wide alcohol and drug detoxification beds at RBWH. The Metro North Mental Health Service recognises that a Recovery approach is consistent with the principles underpinning a range of government policies and strategies to address mental illness. Government and non government agencies must work towards a consistent and coordinated framework to ensure the delivery of a recovery orientated system of care for mental health service delivery. Recovery is based upon collaboration, communication and partnerships across service providers in which the client is central. Pre-employment screening Pre-employment screening, including criminal history and discipline history checks, may be undertaken on persons recommended for employment. The recommended applicant will be required to disclose any serious disciplinary action taken against them in public sector employment. In addition, any factors which could prevent the recommended applicant complying with the requirements of the role are to be declared. Roles providing health, counselling and support services mainly to children will require a Blue Card, unless otherwise exempt. Health professional roles involving delivery of health services to children and young people All relevant health professionals (including registered nurses and medical officers) who, in the course of their duties, formulate a reasonable suspicion that a child or youth has been abused or neglected in their home/community environment have a legislative and a duty of care obligation to immediately report such concerns to Child Safety, Queensland Department of Communities. All relevant health professionals are also responsible for the maintenance of their level of capability in the provision of health care and their reporting obligations in this regard. 5 Voluntary Separation Program (VSP) recipients are not eligible for re-employment by a Queensland Government entity for a period of three (3) years from the date of termination in accordance with the VSP Deed.
