7 THSP works with schools to provide options and opportunities for A unique public-private alliance, the Texas High School Project (THSP) is dedicated to ensuring that all Texas students graduate high school ready for college and career success and prepared to be contributing members of the community. The THSP focuses its efforts on high-need schools and districts statewide, with an emphasis on urban areas and the Texas-Mexico border. Public and private organizations in the THSP include the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Governor s Office, the Texas Legislature, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) and National Instruments. THSP private philanthropic investments are managed by CFT. State and federal investments in Texas schools are managed by TEA. students through these initiatives: n High School Redesign We assist districts in redesigning their large urban high schools into small learning communities, focused on providing rigor, relevance and relationships. n Early College High Schools We develop partnerships between higher education institutions and local school districts to create schools where first generation college-going students earn college credit while attending high school. n New Schools and Charter Schools We support high-performing public charter schools and new school developers in replicating successful models that help prepare traditionally under served students for college. n Texas Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics We support the creation of academies and resource centers focused on increasing the number of Texas high school graduates who study and enter careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related fields. n Education Leadership We assist school districts in their systemic reform efforts by supporting innovative leadership and professional development for principals, aspiring principals, district office staff and school board members.
