USB le It is reommene to use USB 2.0 le (Type A/B) tht is no longer thn 2 metres. DO NOT onnet the interfe le t this time. Conneting the interfe le is one uring MFL-Pro instlltion proess. Network le Use stright-through Ctegory5 (or greter) twiste-pir le for 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX Fst Ethernet Network. 2

3 2 Remove the pking mteril from the mhine Hol the green hnle of the rum unit n pull it out until it stops. IMPORTANT DO NOT onnet the AC power or yet. Remove the pking tpe from the outsie of the mhine. Open the MP try, n remove the plsti sheet from the MP try support, then lose the MP try. e Gently pull the ornge pking mteril towrs the front of the mhine to remove it. Press the front over relese utton n open the front over. Remove the sili gel pk. f Remove the 4 ornge pking piees. CAUTION DO NOT et Sili Pk. Disr immeitely. g h Push the rum unit firmly k into the mhine. Close the front over of the mhine. 3

4 3 Lo pper in the pper try Pull the pper try ompletely out of the mhine. Put pper in the try n mke sure: The pper is elow the mximum pper mrk (). Over filling the pper try will use pper jms. The sie to e printe on must e fe own. The pper guies touh the sies of the pper so it will fee properly. While pressing the green pper-guie relese lever, slie the pper guies to fit the pper size you re loing in the try. Mke sure tht the guies re firmly in the slots. e Put the pper try firmly k in the mhine. Mke sure tht it is ompletely inserte into the mhine. Fn the stk of pper well to voi pper jms n misfees. 5 4 Connet the power or n telephone line IMPORTANT The telephone line or MUST e onnete to the soket on the mhine mrke LINE. IMPORTANT DO NOT onnet the interfe le yet. Connet the AC power or to the mhine, n then plug it into n eletril soket. Remove the lel overing the mhine's power swith, n then swith the mhine on. WARNING The mhine must e groune using n erthe plug. Sine the mhine is groune through the eletril soket, you n protet yourself from potentilly hzrous eletril onitions on the telephone network y keeping the power or onnete to your mhine when you onnet it to telephone line. Similrly, you n protet yourself when you wnt to move your mhine y isonneting the telephone line first n then the power or. If you re shring one telephone line with n externl telephone, onnet it s shown elow. 1 Connet the telephone line or. This report lists the nme or fx numer of the reeiving prty, the te, time, n urtion of the trnsmission, the numer of pges trnsmitte, n whether or not the trnsmission ws suessful. If you wnt to use the Fx Trnsmission Report feture see Printing reports in the Avne User's Guie. See the following hrt for entering your nme. If you nee to enter hrter tht is on the sme key s the lst hrter, press to move the ursor to the right. 9 10 Set tone or pulse illing moe Your mhine omes set for Tone illing servie. If you hve Pulse illing servie (rotry), you nee to hnge the illing moe. Press Menu, 0, Press or to hoose Pulse (or Tone). Press OK. Set the telephone line omptiility If you re onneting the mhine to VoIP servie (over the Internet) you nee to hnge the omptiility setting. Press Menu, 2, 0, 1. If you re using n nlog telephone line you n skip this step. 12 Press or to hoose Bsi(for VoIP). Press OK. Set the telephone line type If you re onneting the mhine to line tht fetures PABX (PBX) or ISDN to sen n reeive fxes, it is lso neessry to hnge the phone line type oringly y ompleting the following steps. e f Do one of the following: If you wnt to hnge the urrent prefix numer, press 1 n go to step. If you o not wnt to hnge the urrent prefix numer, press 2 n go to step f. The efult setting is!. When you press Tel/R,! will e isplye on the LCD. PBX n TRANSFER The mhine is initilly set to Norml, whih lets the mhine onnet to stnr PSTN (Puli Swithe Telephone Network) line. However, mny offies use entrl telephone system or Privte Automti Brnh Exhnge (PABX). Your mhine n e onnete to most types of PABX (PBX). The mhine s rell feture supports time rek rell only (TBR). TBR will work with most PABX (PBX) systems llowing you to gin ess to n outsie line, or trnsfer lls to nother extension. The feture works when Tel/R is presse. Press Menu, 0, 6. Press or to hoose PBX, ISDN or Norml. Press OK. Do one of the following: If you hoose ISDN or Norml, go to step f. If you hoose PBX, go to step. 9

10 13 Automti Dylight Svings Time You n set the mhine to hnge utomtilly for ylight svings time. It will reset itself forwr one hour in the Spring n kwr one hour in the Autumn. Press Menu, 0, 2, 2. 21 For Network Users We Bse Mngement (we rowser) The Brother print server is equippe with we server tht llows you to monitor its sttus or hnge some of its onfigurtion settings, using HTTP (Hyper Text Trnsfer Protool). We reommen Mirosoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or greter) or Firefox 3.0 (or greter) for Winows n Sfri 3.0 (or greter) for Mintosh. Plese lso mke sure tht JvSript n ookies re lwys enle in whihever rowser you use. To use we rowser, you will nee to know the IP ress of the print server. The IP ress of the print server is liste on the Network Configurtion List. Open your rowser. Type into your rowser (where mhine_ip_ress is the IP ress of the printer or the print server nme). For exmple Print the Network Configurtion List You n print the Network Configurtion List to onfirm the urrent network settings. Turn on the mhine n wit until the mhine is in the Rey stte. Press Menu, 6, 6. Press Mono Strt or Colour Strt. The mhine will print the urrent network settings. Restore the network settings to ftory efult To restore ll network settings of the internl Print/Sn server to ftory efult, plese follow the steps elow. Mke sure the mhine is not operting, then isonnet ll the les from the mhine (exept the power or). Press Menu, 7, 0. Press 1 to hoose Reset. Press 1 to hoose Yes. The mhine will restrt, re-onnet les one this is omplete. See We Bse Mngement in the Network User's Guie. 21

Clirtion helps you to improve the olour ensity. If you print using the Diret Print feture or the BR-Sript printer river, you nee to perform the lirtion from the ontrol pnel.
