2 Welcome to the 2014 Course Prospectus Ms. Elaine Hanley The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) is a voluntary hospital founded in 1861 by the Sisters of Mercy. It is a large academic teaching hospital providing both undergraduate and postgraduate education for all healthcare professionals. It is widely acknowledged that all healthcare professionals continue to experience unprecedented change, particularly as patient demographics, advances in healthcare delivery and technology, finances and increasing expectations, place significant challenges and opportunities on all health services. In addition, the legislative changes from the recent Nurses & Midwives Act will require demonstration and validation of competence as a statutory requirement of registration. Furthermore, on-going professional development, role expansion, increased efficiency and effectiveness, place greater demands on all nursing grades. It is against this background, in addition to locally identified needs, that the MMUH CNE collectively plan and prepare the delivery of key education and training programmes. A culture of lifelong learning is widely encouraged and supported by all staff. Please feel free to browse the Prospectus where you will find aspects of the undergraduate BSc programmes in partnership with UCD and DCU, specialist postgraduate programmes, clinical professional development (CPDs) courses and continuing professional education programmes, including the relevant contact details. Investing in education and training can make a big difference to patients outcomes. We look forward to sharing learning opportunities with you in 2014 Yours sincerely Elaine Hanley Director of Centre for Nurse Education Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Centre for Nurse Education ProsPECtUs
