2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Dear Student, The purpose of this tutorial letter is to: 1 inform you of our new helpdesk specialist; 2 remind you of the minimum number of modules you have to pass each year; 3 provide you with the correct curriculum for the BBanking degree; and 4 request you to consider one of the new Banking qualifications if you are still busy with your first or second year of the BBanking degree. 1. Minimum modules required in order to continue with your studies We would also like to inform and remind all students that the Unisa rules state that a student must accumulate at least 48 credits per year in order to continue their academic studies. 48 Credits are equivalent to passing 4 semester modules or 2 year modules. If a student does not obtain the required 48 credits, Unisa may block their registration as a result of such inadequate progress (see Rule ). Please consult your brochure Unisa 2012 for more information. Also please note that you have only until 2016 in order to complete your BBanking degree. The BBanking degree has been replaced by the BCom (Banking) degree in order to meet the requirements of the Higher Education Qualification Framework (HEQF). 3. Curriculum for the BBanking degree Due to errata regarding the BBanking degree at the Unisa website we wish to provide you with the correct curriculum. 5 BBANALL/ New Banking qualifications Students who are still busy with either the first or second level of their BBanking degree may want to consider switching to one of the new Banking qualifications. You will be allowed to transfer modules completed thus far to one of the new qualifications. Unisa now offers three Banking qualifications that meet the requirements of the Higher Education Framework (HEQF) and these have been approved by the Council for Higher Education (CHE): The Higher Certificate in Banking (qualification code 98225) consists of only 10 modules and may be completed in one year. The Diploma in Banking (qualification 98224) consists of 30 modules and has a minimum duration of three years. The BCom (Banking) (qualification code 98317) also consists of 30 modules, which is 9 modules less than the BBanking degree. Details of these new qualifications are provided in the brochure entitled Curriculums: College of Economic and Sciences. The brochure is available from Students who are busy with the third and fourth level of the BBanking degree are encouraged to complete their studies as soon as possible. Please focus on passing CMG111C and CMG211C first if you have not passed them yet, because we plan to discontinue these modules by the end of 2013 and 2014 respectively. Avoid Investments (INV3701 and INV3702) if possible because these are mainly for persons who are interested in doing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme once they graduate from Unisa. Also, note that students who have completed Investments: derivatives (INV4802) need not do Financial Institutions (BAN4801).
