2 NAFSA in Numbers 10,000+ individual members from all 50 states and over 150 countries. 3,500 institutions represented by NAFSA members which is about 98 percent of US institutions. 129 companies and organizations are members of NAFSA s Global Partnership Program. 10,000+ people attended NAFSA s 2015 Annual Conference & Expo from 100 countries. Nearly 600 member-leaders volunteer their time to NAFSA committees, regions, and leadership positions. More than 4,500 international education advocates in Connecting Our World professional development programs, workshops, and webinars delivered to 4,000+ people.
3 NAFSA Regions NAFSA s membership in the United States is organized into 11 geographic regions. Each region holds an annual conference in the fall. Regions are governed by elected chairs and teams composed of representatives of the knowledge communities and interest groups.
4 The Mission NAFSA is an association of individuals worldwide advancing international education and exchange and global workforce development. NAFSA serves international educators and their institutions and organizations by: Establishing principles of good practice; Providing training and professional development opportunities; Providing networking opportunities; and Advocating for international education.

6 Changes over Time NAFSA was founded in 1948 as the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers to provide support for students coming to the United States as a result of the Fulbright Act. The association changed its name to the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs in 1964 to reflect an increasingly diverse membership. In 1990, the membership formally renamed the organization NAFSA: Association of International Educators to reflect the well-established role of NAFSA members in all aspects of international education and exchange.
