2 BREADTH AND DEPTH OF EXPERIENCE: Dr. Alvarez has over twenty years of professional experience in Counseling and Human Services: at least nine years are in higher education; and eight years are in administrative/management capacity in conjunction with more than ten years of clinical counseling experience. Programmatically, he is highly proficient in designing and implementing Human Services treatment programs which are consistent with local and national regulatory standards ( e.g., TDSHS, TDMHMR, TDHS, TCADA, JCAHO and HIPAA). He is also experienced in marketing, business development, management of organizational systems/relations, utilization review, quality assurance, risk management, and managed care reimbursement. He has extensive background in delivering counseling core competencies, curriculum development, staff development, administrative and clinical supervision of staff (e.g., practicum students, interns, clinicians, professional and nonprofessional staff). He has developed numerous Human Services treatment programs, such as Child-Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry, Adult Inpatient Psychiatry, and Adult Partial Hospital Program, and made them vital cost centers. He has managed other cost centers, including Adult Chemical Dependency Inpatient Treatment Program and Geriatric Psychiatry (Inpatient and Partial Hospital Program). He also managed and supervised Criminal Justice s Sex Offender Treatment Program at Ramsey II, and an Inpatient Psychiatry Program at Jester IV. Dr. Alvarez has taught graduate level Psychology courses at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, Introduction to Psychology course at San Jacinto College-Central, Addictions Counseling and Human Services courses at Houston Community College (HCC)-Coleman. He served as the Administrator of the Texas Addictions Technology Transfer Center (TATTC) grant for HCC-Coleman s Addictions Counseling students. As the TATTC Grant Administrator, he was responsible for curriculum development and instruction on clinical supervision for Addictions Counselors. He was also responsible for budgeting, qualitative / statistical reports, and other TATTC grant-related requirements. Dr. Alvarez was a full-time Faculty Counselor at HCC-Northeast where he served a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and international students. Besides counseling and advisement services, he carried out other major functions which include: teaching GUST 0101 (student success seminars); conducting workshops on Human Development and ADA issues; serving as counselor and ADA liaison to various degree programs and area senior high schools; faculty advising to the International Student Organization (ISO); serving as trainer / coordinator for HCC Crisis Response Team and as site supervisor for Counseling practicum students from PVAMU and TSU graduate program in Counseling. He actively involved his talents and expertise in numerous activities and committees within HCC and in various community-based agencies. In his various functions at HCC, he has become highly proficient in integrating best practices in student success strategies (i.e., student retention / student success initiatives), and cutting-edge pedagogical innovations in curriculum instruction (e.g., collaborative learning, learning communities, technology-enhanced learning, etc.). He also served as adjunct instructor in Psychology at HCC-NW & SW. Dr. Alvarez currently serves as full-time Assistant Professor at PVAMU, Graduate School of Educational Leadership and Counseling.
