2 Objectives After this session, you will be able to discuss roles of accreditation and accrediting agencies similarities and perceived differences between national and regional accreditation an educational model incorporating both nationally and regionally accredited institutions a regionally accredited university that accepts credits from nationally accredited institutions

4 What are Accreditors? Private educational associations of regional or national scope Develop evaluation criteria Conduct peer evaluations to assess whether criteria are met Image: Evaluated institutions that meet an accreditor's criteria are then accredited
5 Two Types of Accreditation Image: Institutional and specialized or programmatic Applies to an entire institution Each of an institution's parts contributes to achievement of the institution's objectives Both regional and national accreditors perform institutional accreditation
