1 Rutgers Physician Assistant Certification and Recertification Examination Review Course Faculty Maria Alonso, PA-C, CDE Maria del Consuelo Alonso is a 1980 graduate of St John's University Physician Assistant Program, Jamaica, New York. Since 2010 she has been a diabetes educator for Novo Nordisk A/S in the Bronx and Washington Heights section of NYC. She recently became a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her recent clinical practice has been in pediatric infectious diseases and International Adoptions as well as pediatric endocrinology at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York. She was the Clinical Coordinator for Catholic Medical Center Physician Assistant Education Program from and has been an adjunct faculty member of Pace Lenox Hill Physician Assistant Program for many years. Bridgeman received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. After graduation, she completed a specialized residency in nephrology and hypertension at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and currently practices as an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacist at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey. Dr. Bridgeman also serves as co-author for a monthly column on over-the-counter product case studies for the journal, Pharmacy Times. Sheryl Geisler, MS, PA-C Ms. Geisler joined the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) PA Program faculty in 2003 after teaching for several years on the faculty of the former UMDNJ/Seton Hall University joint program based in Newark, NJ. Before entering teaching, Ms. Geisler practiced clinically at the UMDNJ Newark Student Health Services office. She is a 1997 honors graduate of the UMDNJ/Rutgers University PA Program and received her Master of Science-PA degree from UMDNJ in She is currently in the dissertation phase of a Doctor of Medical Humanities (D.M.H.) degree at Drew University in Madison, NJ. Ms. Geisler is a volunteer clinical provider at Parker Family Health Center, Red Bank, NJ, which provides free health care for the uninsured. Her publications have appeared in both the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (JAAPA) and The Journal of Physician Assistant Education (JPAE). She is a former feature editor for the JPAE and a current member of that journal s editorial advisory board. 1

Hur, PA-C Ms. Hur has been practicing cardiothoracic surgery for the past 10 years and joined the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ) PA Program faculty in She currently practices on a per diem basis at Morristown Memorial Hospital, as well as, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at Rutgers University, her Bachelor of Science at Touro College, School of Health Science and is pursuant of her Masters of Science at Touro University. Jennifer Joseph, MS, PA-C Jennifer Joseph has practiced as a physician assistant in the field of orthopedics for the past thirteen years. She currently practices on a part-time basis at Morristown Memorial Hospital in addition to volunteering at St. John s Health Center in New Brunswick. In 2005 she joined the faculty of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Physician Assistant Program. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from UMDNJ/Rutgers University PA Program in 1996 and then went on to earn her Master of Science degree from UMDNJ in She has been a member of the Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery (PAOS) since Mrs. Joseph has also lectured on the topic of orthopedics for CME courses in the past. Laureen A. Klein, Pharm.D. Laureen A. Klein holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers College of Pharmacy and a PharmD degree from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy. She completed a pediatric pharmacotherapy residency at The University of Tennessee, Memphis and Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. For the past 15 years Dr. Klein has been employed as a freelance medical communications consultant for the pharmaceutical industry and medical communications companies. She develops drug-related manuscripts, FDA documents, continuing education materials, drug information materials, clinical study reports, and presentation materials. She was previously employed at Johnson & Johnson, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and Rutgers College of Pharmacy. Stephen P McKenzie, MS, PA-C Mr. McKenzie joined the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) faculty in 2004 and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Physician Assistant Program. He is a 1993 graduate of UMDNJ/Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program. Steve has 18 years experience in emergency medicine and primary care. Additionally, he serves as a medical officer in the Army National Guard and has coordinated medical services on missions to Iraq, Nicaragua, Honduras, and for recovery workers after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack. He continues to work clinically at Morristown Memorial Hospital in the Department of Emergency Medicine and volunteers at St. John s Health Center in New Brunswick. 2

He received his undergraduate degree in Communications from St. John's University and is a graduate of the UMDNJ/Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Medical Humanities (D.M.H.) at Drew University. In addition, Mr. McQuillan continues to see patients in both Family and Occupational medicine and as a volunteer clinical provider at St. John s Health Center in New Brunswick. Claire O Connell, MPH, PA-C Ms. O Connell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in psychology/biology from Nasson College, Springvale, Maine, in She received a Bachelor of Science-Physician Assistant from Rutgers University in 1987 and a Master s in Public Health from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in After working for several years in family practice in the Pocono, Pennsylvania area, Ms. O Connell joined the faculty of the UMDNJ Physician Assistant Program in She is currently an Associate Professor. She is the director of the Clinical Medicine Lecture Series and lectures in ophthalmology, acute abdomen, and infectious disease. She also oversees the Applied Clinical Research course which culminates in the master s project utilizing Evidence Based Medicine. In 2011 she was awarded the UMDNJ School of Health Related Professions Excellence in Teaching Award. Ms. O Connell is the editor of the Comprehensive Review for the Certification and Recertification Examination for Physician Assistants. She is on the editorial board of the Advisor Forum of Clinical Advisor for Physician Assistants. Ms. O Connell has participated in several continuing medical education conferences and community service programs. She currently serves on the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee of the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners. Lori Parlin Palfreyman, MS, PA-C Ms. Palfreyman joined the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Physician Assistant Program faculty in 1998 and is currently an Assistant Professor. She received her undergraduate degree in Speech Communications from The George Washington University and is a 1996 graduate of the UMDNJ/Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program. Her clinical experience includes obstetrics and gynecology at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in Flushing, New York, and currently volunteers clinically at St. John s Health Center in New Brunswick. Ms. Palfreyman teaches a variety of courses in the Physician Assistant Program including the obstetrics curriculum for the Medicine Lecture Series. In addition, she is a contributing editor for several textbooks such as Primary Care for Physician Assistants and the Comprehensive Review for the Certification and Recertification Examination for Physician Assistants. 3
4 Jill Reichman, MPH, PA-C Ms. Reichman graduated from Hahnemann University's Physician Assistant Program in 1981 and joined the faculty at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Physician Assistant Program in Piscataway. She received a Masters of Public Health in 1988 from UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University. She is currently working on her dissertation for a Doctorate in Medical Humanities. Ms. Reichman is the Associate Director of the UMDNJ PA Program and the chair (interim) of the Department of Primary Care. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, she teaches in several of the courses offered by the PA Program. She also is a contributing author for several physician assistant publications and review books including Primary Care Review for Physician Assistants, Appleton and Lange's Review for the Physician Assistant, and A Comprehensive Review for the Certification and Recertification Examinations for Physician Assistants. Carol J. Sadley, MEd, PA-C Ms. Sadley has been a faculty member of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Physician Assistant Program for the past 19 years. Her teaching responsibilities include directing the EKG and Physical Diagnosis courses. As an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University, she has been teaching the EKG Use and Interpretation course in the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Studies for the past 14 years. Clinically, Carol volunteers her time as a PA at St. John s Clinic in New Brunswick. Recent awards include the NJSSPA Outstanding PA Educator for 2011, and the SHRP Excellence in Teaching award. She recently received her Basic Ski Patrol certification and regularly patrols at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in PA. Prior to teaching, Ms. Sadley spent 8 years developing and overseeing the daily activities of the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs at two central New Jersey hospitals. Joseph Schwenkler, MD Dr. Schwenkler received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from UMDNJ/Rutgers University Physician Assistant Program. He then attended UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where he received a Doctor of Medicine degree. He was in private practice as a Family Physician for twenty years until he joined the UMDNJ PA Program as Medical Director in July of He is also certified as a Geriatrician. In October of 2009 he was awarded the Physician Assistant Education Association New Faculty Award for Professional Excellence. Angel Solomon, MS, PA-C Ms. Solomon received her undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Media from Rutgers University and is a 2002 graduate of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Physician Assistant Program. She works with a solo physician in a private pediatric office where she practices both in-patient and ambulatory medicine. She also enjoys being a preceptor for PA students fulfilling their pediatric rotation. 4
5 Melanie Trecartin, MS, PA-C Ms. Trecartin joined the faculty of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in 1998 and is presently an Assistant Professor at the Physician Assistant Program. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and subsequently completed her Master of Science degree in 2001 from the UMDNJ program. Ms. Trecartin worked clinically in a busy family practice/primary care office for several years. She is a contributing author of the Comprehensive Review for the Certification and Recertification Examination for Physician Assistants on the topic of Psychiatry. Ms. Trecartin is also a volunteer EMT and lieutenant for the Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad in Tewksbury, NJ. Erich Vidal, MS, PA-C Erich Vidal graduated with honors from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in Mr. Vidal continued his academic career with graduate studies in Biology at Seton Hall University and subsequently received his Master of Science-Physician Assistant from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Mr. Vidal worked clinically in a busy family practice/urgent care/occupational medicine center before joining the faculty of the UMDNJ PA Program in He continued to practice part-time at a family practice in Clinton, and now currently volunteers at the St. John s Health Center, in New Brunswick, NJ, which offers medical services to the poor, uninsured and disenfranchised. Ryan White, MS, MPH, PA-C Mr. White joined the faculty in August He received a Bachelor s degree in biology with a minor in anthropology from Muhlenberg College in Following his undergraduate studies, Mr. White worked in the field of molecular biology and was involved with both academic and pharmaceutical research laboratories. In 2008, Mr. White became the first graduate of UMDNJ s M.S. Physician Assistant Studies/M.P.H. dual degree program. While completing the Physician Assistant curriculum, he simultaneously obtained a Master s in Public Health degree, concentrating in Health Care Systems and Policy. After completing this program, Mr. White practiced in a multi-specialty physician group, primarily involving family/internal medicine, sports medicine, and gastroenterology. He then worked in a neurology practice prior to joining the faculty. Mr. White is the President-Elect of the New Jersey State Society of Physician Assistants (NJSSPA) and was previously Chair of NJSSPA s Government Affairs Committee. 5

Yeh, MS, PA-C Ms. Yeh joined the faculty in November She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1999 from Seton Hall University and then went on to complete her Master of Science in Physician Assistant degree in 2001 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Seton Hall University joint program. She has eleven years of experience in Emergency Medicine and continues to work clinically as Clinical Instructor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Ms. Yeh s teaching responsibilities include Clinical Medicine, Human Development, coordinating the GI/GU module and mentoring students in the PA Program on their Master s degree projects. She is also a Chair of the PA Program s Policy Committee, Cochair of the Board Review Committee for the PA Program and Chair of the Policy Review Committee for UMDNJ/School of Health Related Professions. Ms. Yeh s most recent interest for the past 2 years has been as a Clinical Volunteer visiting patients through Stein Hospice every week. 6
