FINANCIAL PLANNING & WEALTH MANAGEMENT SERVICE Your personal service starts with an introduction to a financial planning consultant, who will assemble a comprehensive picture of exactly where you are and, just as importantly, your goals and aspirations. They will then design and implement a strategy that is built to fit your requirements; one that is unique to you. CHARLES STANLEY S REGULATORY STATUS Charles Stanley is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We provide a restricted advice service, which means that whilst we offer objective advice based on a broad and impartial analysis of the relevant market on most aspects of your financial affairs, we may not review or offer advice on all retail investment products. We may also recommend products and services selected from within the Charles Stanley Group, but only if such products or services meet your requirements and are suitable for your needs. By 1998 he d set up his own company making guitars in a double-decker bus. Mark now produces more than sixty guitars a year. CHARLES STANLEY FINANCIAL PLANNING & WEALTH MANAGEMENT Our services seek to provide you with advice on and solutions to your broader financial arrangements. We offer advice on the following: Investment management through our Wealth Management Service Personal and occupational pensions Retirement planning, including annuity purchase and pension drawdown Onshore & Offshore insurance company investment bonds Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) and other tax efficient investments Protection planning Trustee and tax planning including Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning Charles Stanley s Financial Planning department employs highly qualified professional advisers, to offer you objective advice, based on a broad and impartial analysis of the relevant market, on most aspects of your financial affairs. We will work closely with any existing investment management team and your professional advisers. Rather than simply recommending investments, we look at every relevant aspect of your finances, including your personal and family circumstances, your tax position, and your attitude to the risk/reward balance. In discussion with you, we obtain the information we need to establish your goals and the strategies to deliver both your short-term and longterm ambitions. Offering a broad and impartial analysis of the market will allow you to choose from a wide range of options giving the greatest possible likelihood of achieving your individual requirements. The Charles Stanley approach is to assess your situation, consider your preferences and only then design a solution to satisfy your unique circumstances. This will create something individual, suited to you and your specific requirements. We may recommend products and services selected from within the Charles Stanley Group, but only if such products or services meet your requirements and are suitable for your needs. Charles Stanley s Financial Planning and Wealth Management department offers three levels of service, each designed to meet our clients individual requirements and are suitable for your needs. The Wealth Management Service The Financial Planning Service Flexible Financial Advice Service In the pages that follow, we explain each of these areas of specialisation and articulate the differentiation between them. 02
5 THE WEALTH MANAGEMENT SERVICE The term Wealth Management is used by a variety of firms with numerous connotations. At Charles Stanley we believe the meaning is very simple: the integration of financial advice with investment management solutions. THE CHARLES STANLEY WEALTH MANAGEMENT SERVICE Our Wealth Management Service incorporates The Financial Planning Service with a broad range of investment management solutions available from Charles Stanley, within one chargeable structure. We will provide advice on your overall financial wealth in order to help you maximise your investment opportunities. We will address all the areas of financial advice, including: Savings and investments Retirement planning Protection for you and your family Advice for Trustees Estate Planning and the mitigation of Inheritance Tax Tax efficient investments Creating trusts for you and your family The Wealth Management Service allows you to hold your investments within ISAs, pension policies (including SIPPs), Charles Stanley general investment accounts, Trust wrappers and onshore or offshore investment bonds. This service is likely to be most appropriate for clients with 500,000 or more in investible assets, including pensions, Trusts, ISAs and general investment portfolios across a family group. Details of the investment management services available for your Wealth Management account are detailed on pages 4 and 5. Your financial planning consultant will discuss these with you. The charges for our Wealth Management Service are: Time-costed fees for our initial financial planning advice (based on our prevailing hourly rates). An ad valorem fee based on the assets held within our Wealth Management Service for the cost of annual investment management and ongoing financial planning advice in relation to those assets. Fees will be agreed with you in advance. 03
6 THE WEALTH MANAGEMENT SERVICE Wealth Management clients have access to an extensive range of Charles Stanley investment management services. BESPOKE DISCRETIONARY PORTOLIO MANAGEMENT This is the principal service for which Charles Stanley is renowned and allows you to hand over the day-to-day management of your investment portfolio to your investment manager, who will monitor your holdings and make the investment decisions on your behalf. In matching your portfolio to your individual objectives and personal risk tolerances, your investment manager will consider all asset classes. This service brings you comprehensive and continuous portfolio management, as well as a range of other facilities. We will discuss your investment objectives and requirements with you in advance and formulate guidelines for your agreement. Our investment decisions are then made within these guidelines, which are reviewed periodically. Further details of this service are available in our Discretionary Investment Management brochure. DISCRETIONARY FUND MANAGEMENT MODEL PORTFOLIO SERVICE This is a discretionary investment management service which provides clients with a portfolio directly invested in UK equities and bonds, with collectives (funds) providing exposure to international equities & bonds, commercial property and hedge funds. The DFM Model Portfolio service consists of three investment strategies; Growth, Income and Balanced. Each portfolio is actively managed with the manager leveraging off the in-house expertise of: Matterley team for UK equities Charles Stanley bond division for fixed interest Collectives Portfolio Service team for international exposure The asset allocation is determined by the relevant Wealth Management Association benchmark (FTSE WMA). The Model Portfolio service may be suitable for clients who want actively managed direct equities and bonds in a structured portfolio. The minimum investment is 50,000. 7 COLLECTIVES PORTFOLIO SERVICE The Collectives Portfolio Service (CPS) is a discretionary investment management service, which invests solely in funds and provides clients with a managed exposure to bestin-class managers. Your portfolio will be constructed and monitored by a dedicated team of Charles Stanley investment managers and analysts. The team conducts extensive research to identify the most rewarding investment opportunities with the aim of satisfying your investment objectives whilst taking an appropriate level of risk. When constructing your CPS portfolio, we consider first and foremost what you wish to achieve from your investments and how much risk you are prepared to take. We aim to achieve investment flexibility by offering portfolios across income, growth and balanced objectives intertwined with a specific risk profile. We take into account three strategic investment objectives and four levels of risk to create twelve different model portfolios. We subscribe to the risk profiling service provided by Distribution Technology, which maps the CPS strategies against Distribution Technology s pre-defined risk categories on a scale of one to ten. One is lowest risk, ten is highest. The categories and the Distribution Technology rating are prominently displayed on our monthly information sheets. CPS has a minimum investment of 30,000. 8 CHARLES STANLEY FINANCIAL PLANNING SERVICES Clients financial affairs are constantly changing and evolving and to meet these challenges we believe that your financial strategy needs to adapt similarly to changes in your situation. The Financial Planning Service is designed for clients who, whilst not seeking an on-going wealth management service, nevertheless wish to have their financial affairs reviewed on a regular basis in order to maximise the opportunities that are available in the marketplace. The Financial Planning Service offers clients: Personal access to your own dedicated financial planning consultant and support team. Regular communication on the agreed aspects of your financial affairs. Bulletins and newsletters on topics that are relevant to your personal situation. Communication on changes to tax and pension regulations that are relevant to you. Annual face-to-face meetings to discuss your situation. Biannual review of your investments and products. Research notes on new products that may be relevant to your risk profile and that we believe may be of interest to you. To achieve this level of service, we will: Gather sufficient information in order to provide advice on those facets of your financial affairs that you wish us to address. Discuss your financial planning objectives, consider the options available to you and advise you on a suitable approach to meet your needs. Research and source suitable products and providers to meet your requirements. Produce a personalised report setting out our recommendations and strategy. Provide ongoing advice and service. We will charge for this service through some or all of the following: An annual fee. Time-costed fees for providing advice (based on our prevailing hourly rates). Fees for arranging your transactions with product providers. Ongoing adviser fees for the provision of advice, care and maintenance. Fees will be agreed with you in advance. 06
9 CHARLES STANLEY FINANCIAL PLANNING SERVICES Certain clients may prefer to manage their own financial affairs but seek advice from time to time. The Flexible Financial Advice Service is designed for those clients who are seeking advice on the whole or part of their financial affairs but do not wish for, or do not have the need for, access to on-going financial planning advice. We will: Gather sufficient information in order to provide advice on those facets of your financial affairs that you wish us to address. Discuss your financial planning objectives, consider the options available to you and advise you on a suitable approach to meet your needs. Research and source suitable products and services to meet your requirements. Provide you with a written, personalised report and strategy for you. Provide you with an annual valuation of all products and investments held on our valuation system. Additional advice or services will be charged at our current hourly rate. Charges: We will charge a fee (based on our prevailing hourly rates) for providing advice. We may receive fees for arranging your transactions with product providers should you choose to arrange them through us. Fees will be agreed with you in advance. 07

Finally, if a firm is unable or likely to be unable to pay claims made against it, you may qualify as an eligible claimant under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). In such instances, the FSCS may pay compensation to you, the amount of which depends on the type of claim.
