1 Professional Pilot The Professional Pilot Course is a complete, comprehensive training program designed for professionals to prepare you for a career in aviation. As specialists in professional pilot training, we will prepare you to do more than just fly an airplane. We will expose you to a complete aviation environment and allow you to develop the skills that will serve as the foundation of your aviation career. The program utilizes integrated, modular, personalized training to prepare you for the flight crew duties. This is not a collection of separate programs thrown together; instead it is a true crew concept program designed to train you to an end goal. From the beginning of this exciting program you will be treated as a professional, with emphasis on judgment, safety, and aeronautical knowledge. Academic training is extensive, with the in depth coverage necessary to develop the attitudes, skills and techniques that characterize the professional pilot. Due to the nature of this comprehensive, FAR 141 approved course, students are able to begin with little or no flight experience. Credit for private Pilot training may be granted. 4 Part 61 Versus Part 141 Flight schools come in two basic flavors: Part 61 and Part 141. The difference refers to the section of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) under which the school trains. Below are definitions of each Part: Part 61 - Outlines certificate and rating requirements pertaining to pilot certification. States what topics/areas must be covered during flight training and how much flight experience is required for each certificate and rating. All flight schools can train under Part 61 without obtaining special FAA approval. However, they must adhere to the statutory requirements under the CFRs and train pilots to the standards of Part 61. Part Refers to flight schools which obtained Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval. Specifically, in order to train pilots under Part 141 a school must attain approval from the FAA and adhere to a number of FAA requirements including: minimum personnel requirements; aircraft and facility requirements; utilization of a detailed course outline; documenting each student's progress; operating under strict rules; Maintaining a high student pass ratio, etc. Due to the higher standards, Part 141 schools can complete certificates and ratings in fewer hours than under Part 61. For example, the commercial pilot certificate requires 190 hours of flight time under Part 141 while Part 61 requires 250 hours. Also, if you are training only to achieve your instrument rating under part 141, you can bypass the 50 hours of P.I.C Cross-country required under part 61 for your instrument rating.

5 Advantages of Each Part: The primary advantage of training under Part 61 is flexibility. Students and instructors have more freedom in organizing lesson plans and adapting them to the individual needs of the student. Part 61 is often preferred by focused students who prefer less structured environments. At a good school, Part 61 training can be very motivating and enjoyable for the instructor and student alike. On the other hand, less structure can result in a less organization preventing the student from learning the basics in a reasonable amount of time. If training under Part 61, your best defense to "lack of organization" is to select your school carefully. Do your homework and meet with potential instructors. Ask them for an outline of their training syllabus (if they don't have one, move on) and how they typically progress through lessons. Also, take at least one flight with them prior to signing up providing yourself with the opportunity to see whether you two are a good match. The primary advantage of training under Part 141 is structure. Part 141 schools must adhere to a greater number of regulations in order to maintain their FAA approval. These requirements "guarantee" the coverage of certain materials and include regular stage checks throughout training. Some students prefer the structure of Part 141, while others operate better in the free form environment of Part 61. The fact of the matter is that you can receive excellent training under either Part 61 or 141. The key to quality training is developing a good learning relationship with an effective instructor (knowledgeable, patient, interested etc.) -- not what Part you train under. Note - No matter what Part you train under you should follow a syllabus. If you visit a school, ask about their syllabus.
