The Faculty of Economic and Financial Sciences offers a selection of degree and diploma programmes aimed at the growing demand for skills in the fields of accountancy, economics and econometrics, and finance. 5 Admission Requirements Key Information Each of the programmes in this prospectus has specific admission requirements. As part of those admission requirements students are required to have obtained a minimum ADMISSION POINTS SCORE (APS). Points are awarded for the seven symbols obtained in Grade 11 or Grade 12 according to the scale below: > Life Orientation must be divided by TWO in the calculation of the APS rating. 7 Disclaimers of the NSC > In order to be considered for selection for a programme, an applicant is required to comply with the programme s minimum admission criteria in respect of the total APS and Group A and B subjects. > Due to ongoing programme reviews and the current HEQSF alignment process there may be changes in diploma and degree programmes in terms of range and mix of qualifications, curricula, and admission requirements. Please consult the Faculty s website for latest developments. > NC(V) candidates are considered only for Diploma and Extended Degree Programmes. > Minimum entry requirements for studies as legislated by the government do not guarantee a student admission to any programme or field of study. > Also note, meeting the Faculty s minimum requirements for a particular programme does not necessarily guarantee admission to that programme (or a specific campus) as specific selection criteria may be applied. > There could be changes in the site/s of offering of programmes (meaning that programmes could be moved to an alternative campus). > Preliminary admission is based on the results obtained in the final Grade 11 examination. Final admission is based on the final Grade 12 results. > Applicants must meet the criteria set by other faculties with regard to their chosen academic subjects. 9 ADVANCED DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (1 year) PROGRAMME ADVANCED DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES *In Accountancy ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS The entry requirements for the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy are a Diploma or National Diploma with Financial Accounting, Auditing or Internal Auditing and Taxation at a 3rd year level and Grade 12 Mathematics with minimum APS of 4. Students with an APS below 4 for Mathematics or with Grade 12 Mathematic Literacy will only be considered after completion of the Mathematics for Diploma students module offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg to all second and third year Diploma students interested in pursuing further studies at the University of Johannesburg.
