Naturally, my heart and soul gravitate academically and professionally to issues of development. Today I m a member of the senior management staff of a highly regarded university and an activist social entrepreneur. Even though I already had three graduate degrees from Ivy League schools, I saw an MBA as a powerful way to advance my career and perfect my entrepreneurial skills. As the problems of development and inequality become more complex and global, the activist in me is looking for a way to contribute. I have found the curriculum to be amazingly rigorous sometimes even painful, but in the best sense. It s a lot of work, but I m better for it. As an entrepreneur with my fair share of successes and failures, I finally said to myself, I m tired of learning on the street. I need a structured program to figure out what I don t know and how to learn it. In looking at MBA programs, I set my sights on top-tier schools. I chose Kellogg because of the fit. I get a lot of energy from interacting with other people. Kellogg encourages that. I knew I could build relationships, learn from others and grow my network. Allen Center in Evanston and the Miami-campus executive facility are designed to maximize the value of your time away from your personal and professional responsibilities. From the moment you arrive on either campus, we take care of everything meeting spaces, lodging, meals, textbooks and course materials, office supplies and anything else you might need so that you can focus all your energy on your work. The Allen Center s front desk is staffed 24 hours a day and provides a wide variety of services. Inside, there are classrooms of all shapes and sizes, fully equipped study group rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, lounges, snack rooms, a laundry room and an exercise room. Accommodations at the Allen Center are included in your tuition. Like the Allen Center, our 10,000 square-foot Miami facility is home to a variety of versatile classrooms, meeting rooms and quiet spaces. The weekend schedule is also a tremendous advantage, but it means that we live and learn in an intense, concentrated environment. 19 APPLICATION THE EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE CONSIDERS NUMEROUS FACTORS, INCLUDING WORK EXPERIENCE, ACADEMIC HISTORY, RECOMMENDATIONS, COMPANY SPONSORSHIP, THE PERSONAL INTERVIEW AND THE CONTENT OF THE APPLICATION ITSELF. MOST CANDIDATES HAVE A MINIMUM OF EIGHT YEARS OF MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE. A MAJORITY OF KELLOGG EXECUTIVE MBA STUDENTS HAVE 12 TO 15 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE. All candidates for admission to the Executive MBA Program must visit kellogg.northwestern.edu/emba to apply. Applicants to the Kellogg Executive MBA Program choose one of four options: September Evanston, January Evanston, September Miami or January Miami. Admissions criteria are identical for all four. PERSONAL INTERVIEW // An essential component of the Executive MBA Program application, the interview may be scheduled and completed as soon as the rest of the application materials have been submitted. SPONSORSHIP // Sponsorship is an important component of each application and consists of two elements: 1) time away from work to attend classes and 2) financial support. A letter of sponsorship on company letterhead is required for every applicant and should spell out both kinds of support in detail. Financial sponsorship is not required, but every company must provide the necessary time away. An organization s sponsorship commitment also should involve working with the admitted student to establish a career progression plan and to develop a strategy for the student s continued growth in the organization after graduation. TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL) // Applicants who have attended a college or university in a country where the official language is not English must either take the TOEFL (IBT format) and obtain a score of 100 or better, or take the equivalent of English Composition 101 and 102 at an accredited U.S. college or university. TOEFL scores are valid for two years before the submission of your application. Students who have completed graduate studies at a U.S. college or university may have the TOEFL requirement waived with the approval of the admissions committee. ROLLING ADMISSIONS // The Executive MBA Program has a rolling admissions policy. About 30 days after completing the interview, an applicant will receive by mail a decision regarding acceptance to the program. DEADLINES // Because of the competitive nature of program admissions, early application is encouraged. For September start dates in Evanston and Miami: Apply by June 15. For January start dates in Evanston and Miami: Apply by October 15. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION // The program requires two letters of recommendation from supervisors and/or peers who know the applicant well, preferably from someone within the applicant s current organization. Extra recommendations may be submitted at the applicant s discretion. Requests for letters of recommendation are integrated within the application. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS // The Executive MBA Program requires applicants to provide official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended in the United States and abroad, whether the applicant graduated from the institution or took just one class. Each transcript should be submitted in a sealed envelope with the signature or seal of the university registrar. Kellogg does not accept copies of any kind. All transcripts for credits earned outside the United States should be translated course by course into English by a university-approved agency and submitted directly from the agency. Approved agencies are identified at naces.org/members.htm. TRANSFER CREDIT // The Kellogg School does not accept transfer credits or prior learning credits from any outside institution.
