8 Innovation in Design Shielding Can (Current Method) Protects components from EMI interference. Conductive can shielding could be constructed around the module. For example, a frame can be soldered around the periphery of the module, and a cover can be attached to the frame. This cover/frame approach requires additional space within the device limits device size. Conformal Coating (New Method) Conformal coating is a protective chemical barrier that shields sensitive electronic components against harsh environmental conditions such as moisture, chemicals and debris. Advantages of conformal coating: Can help eliminate the need for complex enclosures resulting in saved space allowing possibilities for smaller devices.
