27 Important Information about Spyware and other Third Party Software Due to the increasing global rates of online fraud and identity theft, we are sending you this message to inform you of the potential dangers of certain free Internet software and services. Many companies on the Internet offer free services such as browser search toolbars and Internet acceleration. The use of these services often requires installation of software and changing of your browser settings. This may allow these companies to collect information you send through the Internet, which could include your online banking password or a credit card number! Because of the potential danger these services pose to online transactions, we have made changes to our online banking system. The system attempts to detect certain well-known services that may collect this information, and will prevent you from logging in if they are detected. However, being able to log into online banking is not a guarantee that your computer is safe. Only you can keep your information safe from these companies. If you install or use these free services, you should carefully read the terms and conditions before using the service. You should also install and maintain current virus protection, and consider using a so-called 'spyware removal' program to detect and remove harmful services. Please remember, Sanford Institution for Savings is not responsible for the security of your home computer, and we cannot be held liable for damage resulting from using these services. We are concerned with the safety of your personal information, and we ask for your help in keeping your account secure. (207) (888)
