1 Parent News January 7, 2016 Upcoming Events Mon., 1/18 - No School, Inservice Thurs., 1/21 - Junior/Senior Parent Meetings Woven Together I would like to use our theme, Woven Together to replace the former title of this section, In s and Out s, for the remainder of this school year. The Development Office at Rehoboth Christian School produced a colorful 2016 Calendar. (You may pick one up in the RCS administration office as long as they last.) The 2016 Calendar reflects information about Rehoboth Christian School. Truly, the New Year 2016 will bring challenges and obstacles. However, God will bring wisdom to overcome these challenges and obstacles. A strategic direction for Rehoboth Christian Schools is contingent on God helping us. In the Old Testament in the book of Daniel 2:19-21, it is written: Daniel praised the God of heaven. He said, May God be praised forever and ever! He is wise and powerful. He changes times and seasons. He removes some kings from power. He causes other kings to rule. The wisdom of those who are wise comes from him. He gives knowledge to those who have understanding. God has blessed Rehoboth Christian Schools over the years, and He continues with His blessings, knowingly and unknowingly. Each year, the Board, administration, and staff plan for another school year. We anticipate the number of student enrollment from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade for the coming school year. We also review the staffing needs for the following school year.. We anticipate strategic plans for an excellent Christian and Academic education for our students. A significant event is the plan for the construction of a new Rehoboth Christian High School. The proposed new high school will facilitate 21st century learning. Our Mission Statement is that Rehoboth Christian School challenges its students to know the Triune God and equips them to love, serve and transform the world in His name. Currently, the Rehoboth Christian School Board is seeking an Executive Director for Rehoboth Christian School. The search committee, appointed by the school board, is working with a consultant who received a list of qualified candidates. The consultant, along with the board, coordinated all marketing, advertising, and recruiting for this position. The Rehoboth Christian School Board, administration, and staff consider themselves partners with you in providing your children an excellent Christian and academically sound education.. 2 Elementary Events Happy New Year and Welcome Back - We are excited to begin this second semester at Rehoboth!! Some events the elementary school will be involved this semester include: Star Lab week at the end of January Each class involved in book publishing in March 4th / 5th grade program in May and much more!! Lost and Found - As the cold weather is upon us, we find more and more items in our lost and found pile. Please make sure to write the name of your child on tags in articles of clothing so we can return them to the rightful owner. Also have your child check the lost and found if they are missing something. Jim Holwerda, Elementary School Principal Mid School Matters Extra Work Time for 2nd Semester - Each day there are times that students can get extra time and support in doing their school work. During lunch we have classrooms and teachers available for students to work. Boxed lunches can be sent from the Fellowship Hall. After school Monday through Thursday, students can stay after and work on their school work until 4:00 pm. This has been very beneficial for some students during the first semester. If you would like your child to stay and work during either of these times, please contact and set up a time with Mrs. Jim Report Cards were mailed out before Christmas. If you still haven t received the report card in the mail, please contact the school and we can get you a copy. Second Semester Classes - The second semester began at the beginning of this week. Your student s schedule may may slightly changed. 6th grade s schedule remained the same but the 7th and 8th grade switched semester classes. These classes included, Bible, Pathways, PE, Futures, Reading and Art. So far, there hasn t been any issue with the change in schedule. You can log onto RenWeb and see your student s new schedule or contact the school if you would like a copy. New Exploratories - Students started the 4th exploratory session of the year this past Monday. Basketball players are remaining in basketball. All other students were able to pick from Drama, Lord of the Rings, Books and Bagels, Service Learning, GPA and Boys Fitness. Talk to your student and see how their new class is going. Chris Huizinga, Middle School Principal High School Highlights The Second semester is running! The second semester has started off smoothly and we anticipate it to be a great one! As always the second semester is full of wonderful co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Be sure to be attentive to the parent news and the school calendar to keep up to date with all that is happening at Rehoboth Christian School over the next five months.

3 Valedictorian and Salutatorian It is our policy and tradition to determine the senior class valedictorian and salutatorian after the first semester of the senior year. We have calculated GPAs at the semester and this year s valedictorian and salutatorian are Glenn Ratmeyer and Matthew Begay. Great work gentleman! Junior and Senior Parents Parents of Juniors and Seniors, please mark your calendars for a parent meeting that will take place on Thursday, January 21 in the Band Room. The meeting will start at 5:00 PM for Junior parents followed by the Senior parent meeting at 6:00 PM. Please plan to attend for important information regarding your child s Junior or Senior year! A FAFSA workshop will take place in the High School computer lab following the Senior parent meeting for Seniors and their parents. RenWeb We will continue to transition to and utilize RenWeb this second semester. If you have any questions regarding RenWeb please contact the High School office at Also, look for future opportunities for you to learn more about RenWeb. Chris VanSlooten, High School Principal All School Announcements To all parents and guardians: The School Nurse continues to seek updated immunization records of our students, focusing on kindergarten, 7th grade and all of the high school. A complete record for kindergarten students is needed. For 11-year-olds and older we need a record of the Tdap and meningitis vaccine booster that is required. Please check the records of your students for these and bring them to Eileen Hale (school nurse) by way of the school secretaries. Thank you very much for your attention to this important matter. Boxtops for Education - We just received our first check for this year of about $265.00, and I sent in another submission for about $92.00 which we will receive in April. As you can see if we take the time to save Boxtops and Labels for Education we will be able to have some money to spend for new supplies and equipment. Thank You. Our goal for this year for Boxtops is $ so we have a ways to go. So keep saving and bringing them in. Dorann Louis, School Coordinator Dear Parents of Rehoboth Students: As many of you are aware, we are reminding you of your tuition contract responsibility for your children in the form of a letter that went home this week. Anyone who received a letter has not paid off the first semester, and it is important for you to become current. We wanted to remind you that in order to meet our obligations as a school - staff payroll, utilities, and other expenditures, we depend upon all of our parents to support us through the payment of tuition in a timely manner. Thank you for your support. Deanna Benson Sports and Fitness Center - Please remember that the lobby of the SFC is not a place for hanging out after school. Please pick up your children right away after school at 3:20 p.m. or have them ride the bus home. Athletes are with their teams on the field or in the gym. There is no supervision of students after school if they are not athletes. We want to ensure a safe environment for your children, coaches, athletes, and facility. High school students using the fitness center are allowed to use it from 4 to 6 pm after school. Staff on duty in the fitness center, leave at 6:00 p.m. and there is no supervision of students after that. If a student decides to end his or her workout early, they will need to be picked up at that time and not loiter in the lobby area. Thank you.
