From the director: I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the over 75 center members who were in attendance when the MCS Consulting Group facilitated a site review. This was the final component of a several month process in substantiating our validity and mission to the Lake County senior community as well as the Painesville area. What an honor it was to answer their question What are all these people here for? with the response They are here for you. Your presence spoke volumes for this organization! I also wish to acknowledge Board Member Carol Fleck s effort in lobbying attendees and compiling a collection of member statements voicing their personal support of the Painesville Center, as well as the members who contributed to it. That booklet was presented to the consultants as well as Painesville City Council, The County Commissioners and Painesville Township Trustees. Let s continue this patronage! 1
2 FYI & Outreach Opportunities: Weekly Luncheons: Each Friday of the month. Meal service time is 12:00 1:00. Cost is $6.00 Reservations are requested by Wednesday so that food & supply purchases may be made. No meal refunds are given to cancellations but you may always gift your reservation to a friend, just let us know who will replace you! The Miracle Revival Ministry located at 182 Jackson Street led by Rev. Gerald Mirbel, has been gifting center attendee s with surplus produce on Fridays. We are grateful for their outreach and ministry to this community. Emeritus of Mentor provides senior outreach through financial support that enhances our social and celebratory offerings. Thank you! Kudos to center members: Bob Peterson on his recent ordainment and Al DiIorio s induction to the County Fair s Hall of Fame.. (Mr. DiIorio also won the June 50/50 raffle) Board Member: Susan Walters played a key roll in coordinating last month s tea luncheon at Rider s Inn, as well as creating a beautiful themed raffle basket. The event was supported by 20 attendees. Owner/operator: Elaine Crane shared her wealth of historical knowledge on the Inn and it s role in Painesville s past. The meal was delightful as well. Seasonal & Holiday raffle baskets: No, they don t just appear..much thanks to Rose Gelman, Rachael Valencia and center members who have donated items to make these opportunities possible. Painesville Senior center is proud to offer you a selection of programs designed to keep you healthy, fit and informed. The programs below are subsidized by Senior Service Levy funds & the United Way/Lake County, Low Impact Aerobics: 9:30-10:30 Instructor Stephanie Sullivan leads this heart- healthy cardio class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. Stephanie brings a high level of energy and fun to this large group of health conscious participants. Class fee: $1.00 member $2.00 non-member Zumba Gold, Latin Cardio Dance Class: Monday & Friday mornings at 8:45 Certified Instructor: Annette Santoro will introduce you to Zumba! The Gold program is specifically designed for the active adult. Indulge yourself in featured dances like: Salsa, Cha-Cha, Merengue and Rock, at a lower intensity pace. Come and be swept away in this Latin style music and dance exercise offering. Class fee: $1.00 member $2.00 non-member Ball, Strength & Stretch Floor Class Mondays & Wednesdays & Fridays 10:30 11:00 Immediately following the aerobics class you may elect to participate in this thirty minute cool down and stretch routine. Stephanie Sullivan offers instruction and guidance to maximize this program s offering. Stretch, strength building, ball and weights are the key componentsof this class. No charge at this time to attendees already involved with aerobics.. Tai Chi Class: Beginner and or Intermediate Sessions available Class times: Thursdays: 9am/Beginner Thursdays: 10:15 Advanced Libby Hill: Certified Instructor and owner-operator of Family Karate in Mentor facilitates this program. She is a veteran in martial arts & dedicated spiritualist of self strength & healing. Certified with the American Arthritis Association. Class fee: $1.00 member $2.00 non-member (New students accepted the first class of the month) Yoga: Wednesdays 11:15-12:15 (New time) Namaste! New Instructor: Anna Shostrand facilitates this healthy lifestyle program. Join her on a journey to strengthen your overall balance, increase oxygen intake, improve muscle tone, lower blood pressure. Dress comfortably & bring a floor mat. Class fee: $1.00 member $2.00 non-member Extreme Fun Line Dancing Thursdays 12:30-1:30 Class fee: $1.00 member / $2.00 non-mem Instructor: Dee Blansett Enjoy line dancing at the Painesville Senior Center! Classes are offered as an 8 week session. Dancing enhances your quality of life, promotes increased mobility and introduces new friends! Guests may enjoy one free introduction class. True Beginner Dancing Class New Time Slot Thursdays at 11:30-12:30 Instructor: Dee Blansett Member & non-member fees apply Class fee: $1.00 member $2.00 non-member Wellness Walkers Program Each Thursday 9:00 10:00 Schedule available at office. Members of the Painesville and Perry centers meet at various MetroPark locations for a one hour health walk. The program runs 6 weeks meeting once weekly. Agendas and maps available at the centers office. Aquatic Program Offering Partnered with the Lake County Central YMCA A therapeutic water program has been created for members of the Painesville Senior Center celebrating our partnership with the Central YMCA! The Functional water fitness class will be facilitated by a certified instructor Monday thru Friday from 1:30-2:00 daily, with an open swim immediately following on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. That s an hour and a half of therapeutic swim time! This is a community outreach program that we hope you will take advantage of and enjoy! Cost is $5.00 per class. Class fees and Instructor contracts are currently under Board review. Data addressing participation relevancy and financial feasibility are being assessed. Leadership hopes to utilize the most beneficial and sustainable protocols in the 2016 year. 4

Blood Pressure Checks Second Friday of the month New day and time Painesville Senior Center is offering these screenings sponsored by Western Reserve Hospice 8:30 9:30 am Podiatrist Service Second & Fourth Wednesday of the month Dr. Kelly Whaley has requested that those wishing to see her arrive between 9:00 am and 10:00. Cost of service is $ In order to assist the doctor please sign in and you will be seen in that order. Thank you Massotherapist Annette Santoro Every Monday 9:30-11:30 Provides 10 & 15 minute chair massages for only $7.00 or $ This is a great gift to give your body & mind! Reservations are a must so that each and every one of you may enjoy her professional skills. This is a once weekly offering. Massage therapy may increase the oxygen in your blood stream, diminish aches and pains, improve your flexibility and reduce tension. Breakfast For The Brain with Valerie Armstrong First Wednesday of the month 8:30 am. No Fee Left brain, right brain stimulation exercises. Think well and feel good contributing to your overall wellbeing! MaryAnn s Hearing : Satellite office in the Painesville Senior Center Every Thursday 10:00-1:00 Welcome! Included in their service offerings will be: free hearing exams, digital demonstration, hearing instrument repairs and accessories and assisted listening devices. Walk-ins accepted. Legal Assistance /free consultation 3rd Monday of each month 9:00-11:00 Attorney: Debbie Loughner is at the Painesville Center the 3rd Monday of the month. Schedule a free 20 minute consultation to discuss your legal matter with her privately. If requested: You would be informed of any fees for extended services before agreeing to them. Free Computer Classes Summer Break 30 Minute: Personal training sessions Sponsored by the City of Painesville s Recreation Department Instructor: Dave Whitaker These are one-on-one personal training sessions, sponsored through the City of Painesville Recreation Dept. Bring your own device or utilize one of the center s desktops. No-fee instructional sessions like these are a rare opportunity, so reservations are required and a No-Show policy of more than 1 missed appointment may remove you from the opportunity.! Class dates: Painesville Rec is gearing up for warm weather activities that require David s attention. Classes will return in the Fall. 6 Special Events, Offerings & Programs Wii League: Media Room Offerings Next Session begins in August Try your hand at this interactive, therapeutic, virtual reality game. The system is available for use during normal center hours. There is a $5.00 session fee for the league secretary/scorekeeper. Fees payable to office. Regulation Bowling League Runs 8 weeks $5.00 fee Next Session begins in August Vintage bar machine bowling at it s best. Breda & Mike Ortman will be coordinating this nostalgic offering. Please see them with questions. Oh, and Mike says No Quitters Scrapbooking group 1st/3rd Tuesdays of the month at 11:30 New members are welcome and encouraged! If you would like to participate on either day, both sessions or just an hour or so, please sign up at the center s office. Let your creative side show in a pictorial keepsake. Red Hatter Postings Join this wild group of women who scout around local restaurants, wineries, museums and special events. Our Red Hot Winers hold a once monthly pot luck social luncheon and welcome all interested newcomers. Card Players welcome! Thursdays/Time: 12:00-3:00 The center s pinochle and bridge players are looking to increase the size of their group and invite you to stop in & join them. This group often extends their time of socialization by sharing a meal immediately following play time at a local eatery. Come see how we play! Hand & Foot Cards Thursdays at 10:00 Similar to Canasta, but much more fun! Join this small group in their pursuit of the ultimate book! There is no fee to participate, bring a snack to share for a great time of social interaction. Bingo Mondays 11:15 to 12:30 Each Monday of the month Several local vendors with generous hearts will alternate facilitating this new offering. We love community sponsors! We ll be playing cards at.10 cents each. As many cards as you d like. Vendors will also be contributing a Bonus gift on the Fill-up game. Seamstress, Quilter, Needle crafter : Teri Bittner 2nd & 4th Friday of month 10:45 Your senior center has two sewing machines for member use in class offerings. Classes are offered on the 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month. Class fee: $5.00. Teri will be convalescing from a surgical procedure June/July. Class participants will continue to meet. Golden Treasures Thrift Store Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 1:30 pm Open to the public. All proceeds directly benefit the Painesville Senior Center. Donations appreciated. Lake County Drug Repository Satellite Office Returns this month 4th Wednesday of the month 8:30 till 10:30 Dawn Nickerson: If you ve experienced difficulty acquiring RX drugs, eyeglasses, hearing aide assistance, food needs or have a family member or neighbor in need, please drop by or have them come in.. The repository has assistive mechanisms for all ages of the Lake County community.
